ua-cam.com/video/graQwlDMt3w/v-deo.html here is the interview if you're curious, I can't remember exactly where it was said but I think it's nearer the end than the beginning?
I still Say quotes from this video pretty often among my friends who also seen it, Mostly saying desperate on voice chat leads to saying desperate back and forth, as well as 'HERE'S A PICTURE' there's even a Deus ex Sticker pack on telegram with quotes from this. Thank's so much for re-uploading this in HD, S'cool.
I remember the first time this came out half the people genuinely have never heard of Deus Ex. They thought the author of this machinima stole the name "Deus Ex" from DigitalPh33r's work, titled "Deus ex Machina". Half the comments were like "DuDe YuO StoeL tEh nAeM bRuh"
nollix Yeah, no problem. Don’t forget to check out the remaster; you might prefer it. I tried to keep everything I did well enough the last time intact in some way. Just felt the video quality and a few other niggles needed some improvement.
DeoMachina Yuuup! I originally had it on this channel even, but uploading it to Machinima at the time meant removing it from my own channel. Now that all my vids on Machinima are de-listed, I felt the need to repost it here. Glad you enjoyed it so much. :)
I thought this had been lost to time! So glad to see it again. You are an absolute legend, everyone who played Deus Ex saw this or has seen a reference to it
I'm always watching this on January 1st, doesn't really matter what exact hour. It's a shame the low res original is gone, also that Machinima logo at the end already grew on me, but oh well. Also, imho this version is still the best, much preferred over remaster
That’s why I kept it is for people like you. Glad you enjoy it so much. Sorry about the Machinima logo. It wasn’t originally on Machinima though tbh. I had to take it down from my channel and slap on the Machinima logo to upload it to them and get paid. I never liked the implementation. The whole video got downresed, and they added a preroll before my attempt to incorporate the preroll, ending up in double preroll. It was a mess, and I’m surprised anyone prefers it. But I guess what you remember best is what ends up being the most special to you.
@@AbbyRemix It's probably pure nostalgia thing, not really sensible, I know ;) Thank you again for preserving it, ever since watching it for the first time, it became a part of this game for me, in a sense. Happy new year!
@@Andriej69 Okay, you're in luck. I still have a copy that I downloaded straight off of UA-cam as a doomsday backup. Has the watermarks and everything from when it was on Machinima. I've added a link to it at the bottom of the description. Feel free to post it on your channel if you want.
Gods honest truth, that was honestly just in there because at the time, I couldn’t figure out how to record his dialog on that bit without it being out of cutscene and looking different. And at that point I was like, welp here’s some footage; good enough! Sorry. 😅 I think my inexperience at the time really shows in a lot of these older videos, but I suppose that might add to the charm. And that’s kind of why I left the old version up. Yeah, some things are different. Maybe not George Lucas Special Edition level different, but I did wanna take a swing at fixing some of the things that to me seemed like glaring mistakes and felt embarrassing. Was worth it to me in the end, but I know some of it hits different, and scenes relying on the random nature of events playing out like the informant scene just literally COULDN’T be recaptured feasibly. So I used the opportunity and the things I’ve learned since to try to make a product that essentially competes with itself rather than (necessarily) replacing. Best I could do for, probably my favorite of the ones I made. Holds up the best anyway. Trying to make it palatable for a new/continuing generation really since HD is so ubiquitous and expected at this point, I felt I had to.
Well, it definitely wasn’t intentional. I just kept putzing until I found some funny combinations or inspiration for things. My process was very long but also slapdash. Still is, just less of a good-enough approach and more of a “there’s no way this could ever be lucrative with the amount of time I’m putting into this for a game no one’s played in decades and largely forgets ever happened” approach like on that Fatty Bear video I did (and I use the term VERY relatively) “recently”. I mean, I straight up auto-tuned that shit so that the dialog splicing didn’t sound off, and even hand-animated a lot of parts. And just because I knew I could; so I felt I had to. It’s not something a sane person spends her days working on for over a month. I’m not very sane. More sane now, but again… very relative.
Anyone remember Machinima's obtrusive annotations, back in't olden days? "EAT THIS!" And then you clicked on it by accident and it was some cringeworthy fan anime tripe.
I was actually one of the people working in their offices at the time, putting those onto videos by hand until UA-cam gave us the API access to smatter them all over our content. I hated them too. Started to hate the company. They really ended up tarnishing the whole medium by chasing venture capital for as long as there was anyone that bought into it all. I signed on for a company that believed in machinima (little m), but over the five years of seeing that get undermined little by little, I was glad I got laid off in the first big purge.
@@AbbyRemix That's actually most interesting that you were on the ground at that time. What on earth happened? It sounds fairly straightforward, typical VC over-investment and the attendant micromanagement from above ruining the stuff that made it interesting in the first place. One of those early-ish internet bubbles bursting. Or was it more complicated than that?
@ZoopsMind Yeah, it was mostly that. Unsustainable business practices with VC giving us the opportunity to just figure it out eventually. And then on of the directors we had signed on made a big ol' faux pas, and VC was like okay, no thanks.
Oh god I know, right? I don’t like it when the world is more ridiculous then the crap I tried to make as ridiculous as humanly possible.
