@@thatonemothafacko The Rev was my first big drumming inspiration
Miss his inspiration on the band... he made a7x
@@Rhr-lv1pm For real, the songs he wrote are some of my favorite a7x songs
@@adayonearth7342 by far mine as well... you could just see his creative writing missing in all the albums after self titled.
This band seems like the chillest coolest dudes ever without having any ego issues cuz they’re all best friends since kids. RIP Jimmy, you are forever a legend in music and we will never forget you as your music is immortalized and just too good
seeing him smile at 1:36 got me good. all these videos of him never get old. miss you so much dude
Finally got to see how that part at 1:17 was done
Chris B he did it in the music video yeeeeaaaaarrrrrrrrs ago... Also, it’s kinda just a common sense thing (if you play drums)
Kickin' Wing, Animal Doctor portnoy did it differently with just a single if you ever see his drum cam
All I can do is just laugh at how ridiculous that is.
@@GKillChill jimmy ever did it too, see almost easy live in loudpark 2008, jimmy didn't play his double ride style and he play single
This has always confused me, seeing as on the recording as seen here it's obviously double ride, but then as people hVe said he plays it single, I woukd have thought playing on a single ride would take away some of the clarity and precision of this technique, always wondered why he played one live.. Not wanting to take two rides on tour maybe?.. Either way, sick beat and always missed..
He's so flawless and nonchalant in how he plays. Absolute shredder.
Martin Restrepo easiest drum song I’ve ever witnessed
This song isn’t really that crazy hard
@@jakeladders7461 how
Tronci I can tell u don’t know much about drums huh bud ? Proof is in the video but it’s okay bro I get it
@@jakeladders7461 what?? There's no way it's the easiest song ever to play; I'm a fucking drummer you idiot and I've been playing for 8 years. There's nothing insanely hard about this song but to call it the easiest song to play on the drums is ridiculous. A beginner wouldn't be able to play this song at all and even an intermediate player would struggle.
The literal definition of a prodigy
I swear Rev had a metronome built in his mind. Perfect timing, one take, walk out like you still have to take the kids to school. Such a genius.
Edit: I love the epic drum masters replying to this comment. *Pushes up glasses and snorts* "Well actually, he was 1/32nd off at 1:65." Bro, you're a douche.
muscle memory, experience, talent and hard work
Lol dude come on, at 1:34 he went out of time
@@jd0879 bro you clearly have never touched a drumset in your life
@@JohnFaulkner56 Oh stfu you dirty dog. Be objective, the Rev went out of time and even smiled into the control room knowing he messed up. There’s a reason it doesn’t sound like that on the record
@@JohnFaulkner56 There's definitely an extra beat there. Try counting it in your head. Weird you would say that guy doesn't know drums when you are so wrong lmao
Hard to believe such a talented, awesome drummer, who has inspired so many musicians around the world is gone. You're a legend Jimmy, and your memory lives on.
@Baris Manco not when rev was there
Easy to believe actually he was a drug addict
@B**** G**** shut up you disrespectful bitch there not the most hated in any way shape or form nor did they sell, go collect your welfare check and be an alcoholic or something you useless fuckin mutt
@B**** G**** They made the last cool rock and roll album since appetite for destruction with city of evil (with songs for the deaf in the middle there). They made metal and rock cool again for a little while.
I always love this clip because it's such a good example of how you shouldn't judge by the cover. Meaning, if we never knew the Rev and this emo-asf dude walked into a Circle K, you'd just assume he was just living with mom playing video games all day yet instead he's one of the most amazing drummers ever to live.
If someone judges a book by the cover they probably couldint read it anyways
Most amazing drummers ever? No, he's not in that list.
He's dead, that's why he's overrated. Dave Grohl, for example, owns him, easy.
@@TheNewbiedrummer Jesus Christ, you have to be kidding me. Grohl was an AVERAGE drummer, that's why when he made his OWN band, he hired a drummer.
Danny Carey, as one random example, is a world-class drummer. Danny is definitely better than Jimmy, but Jimmy could cover Danny's work. Dave, whom I love, could never dream of covering Danny.
Again, I love Grohl but he is only an average drummer. Prove me wrong. Not by just saying it, prove it.
@@TheNewbiedrummer Also, I clearly wrote "ONE OF the most amazing drummers" not what you wrote as an attempt to quote me, "most amazing drummer". I never said that. Let's be accurate if you want to have a legitimate discussion.
@@BPoweredLove grohl is more than an average drummer, and he sings and plays guitar for foo fighters, hence needing an extra drummer. obviously the rev is on another level but you can elevate him without putting down grohl
The Rev was the first time I ever felt the feeling of loss. since 1999 you guys have killed me with influence.
Glad this came up in my feed. I remember watching this when he died. Miss the Rev. Glad I saw him live. Dude is so funny. Just comes in, rips it up and dips. RIP Brother ❤️
Love this, he really made it look almost easy - Gone but never forgotten
No offense, but it is easy to play.
Playing like that's not easy to everyone though, it takes certain people
@@z0eshiTo someone who doesn't know how to play drums, yes obviously, but the average drummer can play this easily. Not saying Rev sucks or anything, just saying this particular song isnt hard to play
Yeah i understand, i mean i cant play, i would love to learn some day but honestly i doubt ill get the time, so to me it looks awesome
@@z0eshi I taught myself, just learn the basics. It's all about muscle memory, it my take longer but eventually it can be done. Don't need to rush it. A couple mins just trying to mimick/air drum can help.
Goddamn I love how I can literally sing this song in my head because of this man. Rest in paradise man, you deserve it
@Patrik Zácsi yeah, he dead
matty caswell same
no dude hes in hell
@@markusrose4468 I dunno but he died of overdose at the end of the day... taking drugs deliberately.
You can sing it in your head because you know the song, not because of the drums
Miss u rev
That man was the heartbeat and pulse of avenged sevenfold rip The Reverend Tholomew Plague aka the rev
Dylan Perry alright enough drumline movies for you lmao

How can someone be this good? Damn it, Jimmy. Why we lost you so early? Miss you, baby boy. Rest in peace.
14 Years ago today. foREVer missed.
Over a decade since we lost him, still one of the greatest drummers of our generation.
Good god, the bell on that ride makes it seem as though there's a train about to come through.
Eric Thorpe so true, i never thought of it that way
Zildjian 21” Z Custom Mega Bell Ride 👌🏻 (now the A series Mega Bell Ride)
Aspen Challis $325 ....damn
I have to say, good call on choosing that large bell for the studio. Definitely helps with consistency of the hits. It’s hard to get that with smaller bells. (For example: don’t stop believin’ the bell is very prominent and Steve Smith seems to nail each hit almost perfectly.)
@@jessejohnson9321 yeah check out K custom or K custom hybrid. 🤑
The Rev literally makes it look effortless; a masterful display.
Love what you like,
Love what you do,
And smile.
That's jimmy❤
I remember being 13 years old (27 now) and hearing A7X for the first time and going “I want to be like that guy!” And I started learning drums shortly after that, with The Rev being my main influence. I wouldn’t have gotten to do so many cool things musically with my life if it wasn’t for him. foREVer 🤘🏼
Yes 👏👏. Jimmy Best Drummer🙏
I was lucky enough to see him live. RIP true legend
He is the reason why I love metal and drums
We Always love you rev
He's an absolute legend. I was supposed to see them live a few months before he passed but wasn't able to go and it honestly devastated me, especially when I heard of his passing. RIP brother 🖤
1:13 I could do that
1:17 wtf
It's 16th notes with double bass and two cymbal bells. Very easy. Like...almost as easy as it gets.
CatLikeThief worng
CatLikeThief That’s not even close to true. While it is two ride bells with double bass, the amount of time you’d need to play drums to play that is pretty high. It looks easy. It‘s not something a beginner could do though.
@@guitarguy9030 yea I'm for real. It's super easy. I see the comment above exclaiming a beginner drummer couldn't do it but... that's not even a real point. My point is that doubles are easy. Period. Nobody can deny that. I'm not knocking the drummer here, and it's worked into the song well. The drummer himself is a pro musician. It's not that he played the doubles, it's where in the song he fit them. But it's such a simple thing, I don't see why the comments are flooded about it being hard to do when it's not at all.
it didn't take me long to learn it
What perplexes me is how he isnt moving or tensing Any unnecessary muscles. He is so relaxed while rocking the fck out.
He's in the zone
It’s like he’s working in an office cubicle. Making copies and sending emails.
@@saintjabroni And he has a coworker who pranks him all the time

Drumming is all about efficiency of motion my dude, you cant be tense and flailing around if you want to play well.
Effortlessly! Amazing
He just walks in, relaxed, played without breaking a sweat.
I find myself watching this multiple times a day..can't get enough of it.
I don't know how many times I have watched this.
As a drummer I miss the Rev a lot. He was such a big influence for me and my drumming. When he passed, it was very tough.
MOASS imminent 🚀
I swear, great drummers seem like magicians to me. Even when you show me how they do their stuff, I just can’t comprehend how they actually manage to pull it all off and make it seem so effortless.
That fire extinguisher 🧯 behind him is 💯% EMPTY after putting out all the fires he started laying these fkng tracks down! RIP Rev you were an absolute boss behind that kit man! Simply incredible!
Maybe wasn't my drummer of choice at the time, but now in retrospect, I see all the people hes influenced and he was truly a professional who loved his craft. Hats off to you James, you WILL be missed.
It’s so crazy the subtleties in his playing it’s like you hear the standard tempo in yur head and imagine the other instruments behind it but you hear Jimmy messing with the signatures subtlety here and there and bringing it all back up to speed and still makes it sound so Consistent and Dead accurate his creativity in his drumming is awesome
rev, the one-take god
I like how after he got finished , he got up like it was nothing . He killed that in ONE WHOLE TAKE. what a legend . RIP
I've always loved the double ride with the double bass move 😍 brings back my teen years watching this, miss you Jimmy ❤❤
He mignt be gone but his legacy will live for ever

He does this so nonchalant and that’s why he is my favorite drummer of all time. RIP Rev
I had a chance to see them, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin, Korn, Sevendust, and Shinedown in Atlanta when I was a senior in high school (literally all of my favorite rock bands at the time). Me, like an idiot, was honest with my mom and asked her if I could go to the concert; the adult going with us was a 23 y/o uncle of my buddy. She said "NO" and kept me on lockdown that weekend.... the Rev died later that year, now I will never see A7x at their whole....... RIP one of the greatest drummers alive!
Raw talent. Holy shit. He didnt even break a sweat. Those different rhythms with feet and hands is complicated. Half note, quarter, 32nds, 16ths.. Wow...
@2:50 is my favorite fill ever. It's SO simple, but SO good. Not to mention that double ride fill
Avenged Sevenfold won’t ever be the same without my guy right here.
and now it's 2022, I still remember him, may you rest in peace there my idol, warm greetings from Indonesia🇮🇩🎗️
Everyone’s drum cover on this song on UA-cam never sounds the same. Everyone always adds or forgets some parts which throws me off. There’s only one man who can pull it off and it’s THE FUCKING REV!
facts 💯
Felt like meeting a good old friend after ages. Took me straight down memory lane. What a powerhouse of talent and so cool about it.
Rest easy young legend !
Best Band Ever! I'm so glad I got to see the Rev perform with A7X in Denver back in 2006 or 2007 before his passing. The Rev was amazing, truly phenomenal drummer!
I can’t even express how happy and sad this makes me at the same time. How’s it been 16, almost 17 years since this album came out? I still remember the first time hearing it. Fuck I miss the 2000’s.
Love the most replayed sections all over the extra ride sections....such a cool fill!
Still years later at 1:36 when he does that smile I never get tired of it. Idk what he's smiling at but you can tell it's very meaningful
missing tempo...duh....
Cuz he fucked up the fill before it
