This is going to be so helpful when I get my new baitcaster
Saving this vid to watch later incase I forget any of steps
Very helpful and great tutorial I definitely will need to watch this again haha
I will take a look but if you haven't any chance you could do a spinning reel full breakdown, clean and bearing replacement?
If not no worries Im sure I could find one anyway but you have a great way of explaining and showing exactly how to do things that is for sure
Keep up the great work mate

No worries, have you decided what you're going to get? I'm no expert but if you end up having any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to help out.
That's a good idea, I've been meaning to make a spinning reel teardown/maintenance video. I don't have experience with higher end reels with special componentry (eg. magseal in some Daiwa reels), but I'm pretty familiar with opening up basic spinning reels like Shimano siennas which should translate to heaps of other reels. I'll try to highlight the main parts to clean and maintain, and some little things to consider.
      Thanks for watching.

@@Fishing_for_Fishies not 💯 yet but most like an Abu Garcia combo or something I need to learn how to use one although first hahahaha
Well I'm using Daiwa Laguna Lt reels ATM a 2000 and 3000 series
The 3000 is my main carp rod 30lb braid 20lb leader
ATM the other reel is 15lb braid down to 10lb leader sometimes 8lb
But I'm about to change that to my trout rod basically may as well call it the TCD rod now lol 5lb braid 4lb leader
The baitcaster my idea was to have that as 15lb braid to 8-10lb leader
But still not sure I need something decent for yellowbelly when I head west as well they have snapped me off on 15lb leader before
My best yella 38lb so yeah if they are big and decide to go hard they can snap you off on smaller line especially amongst the timber where I most often fish for them.
Even if you a do a spinning reel breakdown would be great 👍🏼
Im going to share this in my community post so hopefully a few more people make there way over 🙂

@@bushfishncook2128 My mate picked up an Abu blackmax recently, good reel feels smooth and solid.
Oh yeah when fishing in hard structure you gotta smoke em before they get you in the timber right.
What I can tell you is that heavier/thicker line won't compromise casting distance with baitcasters nearly as much as it would with spinning reels. And of course you'd be able to swap out leader strengths depending on the type of fishing you're doing.
I use the FG knot to connect main line to leader, but what I've learnt from experience is that it doesn't work super well with thicker mainline to thinner leader. A different knot like the Albright or Alberto suits better in that case. I generally avoid the double-uni knot as it's thicker/clunkier than the three other knots.
Yep definitely can do, just gotta find some time to film it! Thanks mate.

Nice Video and good technique mate 👍 I have 5 bait caster reels all finished because of salt water, 2 of them were last week when kayaking. I could give them to you if you could save them 👍 otherwise would put them into rubbish bin 😳

Just curious why you chose full ceramic bearings? Thinking of doing this myself

    • @Fishing_for_Fishies
      @Fishing_for_Fishies  2 роки тому +1

Hey. My primary reason for choosing full ceramics is because I mostly fish saltwater. No chance of corrosion, and no need to lube (full ceramics function better dry anyway). I would say that these new bearings only increase casting distance by a couple metres or so in comparison to the stock steel bearings, but it does make casting the lower weight range of lures a little easier. (This is typical of bearing upgrades)
I can't speak personally on whether they're better than hybrid ceramics in terms of casting performance, though I'm happy with the casting benefit that these provide for lures in the 3g~ range and up (this reel isn't great with lures much lighter than that regardless of how good the bearings are). Cannot speak on whether these bearings would net any benefit for regular deep spool baitcasters either, except for the corrosion resistance benefit.
The only potential negative with full ceramic bearings I've found is that they have a distinct sound when casting, but personally I like it because it lets me know how fast the spool is spinning throughout the cast (useful in the event that you've lost sight of the lure during the cast).
If you haven't already, try running your current stock steel bearings without any lube (clean them out with a solvent). You should be able to notice a slight increase in casting performance.
Happy to answer any more questions you might have about the bearings, or just the reel in general. I use the reel in my recent videos, throwing lures in the 4-6 gram range.

Nice vid bro.A couple of ? How is that reel performing do you like it Also how much better is it casting with those bearings?
    Cheers mate all the best

    • @Fishing_for_Fishies
      @Fishing_for_Fishies  2 роки тому

Hey mate, since posting this video it's been used regularly with no issues. Built well enough to handle regular bread and butter fish no worries. I'd say that I'm maybe getting a metre or so of extra distance with the new bearings. Not a huge upgrade, but I found it made casting lighter lures slightly easier (3 grams or so).
If you're looking to get a baitcaster specifically for throwing bream lures, this will handle all your chubby divers and other hardbodies in the 4 gram range and up easily. Although, it struggles to get good distance with bream soft plastics as they usually weigh 3 grams or under (assuming you're using a 1/16oz or lighter jighead). There are newer and better budget reels that can cast this sort of weight range like the Tsurinoya Darkwolf 2. You can find this on Aliexpress, which is where I got the reel shown in this video. If you've got a higher budget, you could start looking at reels like the Shimano Aldebaren or Daiwa Alphas Air TW.
      Hope that helped.

@@chepachii Ah that's great, not many people using bfs gear here. Yep I was referring to the DWU in the previous reply. If I were you I'd get the new Kestrel Elite from Kastking once it releases instead. The Zephyr could be a downgrade from your DWU (from what I've read online anyway).
Are you based in Sydney? Could arrange a meet if you wanted to test out the zephyr (assuming the stars align)

I saw the reel test do his review on it, interesting to see his on the water / fishing test.
The DWU is awesome, was thinking of getting the zephyr as a backup, don't really need it lol I'm a bit of a tackle junky😎😪

@@chepachii Ah too bad. Yeah, I wish there was a bigger market for baitcasters in aus, would make buying lighter power rods for bfs alot easier anyway. What rod are you using?
Another option to consider is the abu blackmax with the cheap aftermarket bfs spools on Aliexpress. You can often find the reel floating around on facebook marketplace for cheap. My mate fishes with one and it performs surprisingly good, nearly on par with my zephyr.
