    Another great video when you say if there is not enough oxygen available at the end it backs the system up, is that what people refer to as VO2 max ?

      Physiologically they are related, but they are not the same thing. VO2max is what we call it when the full body is consuming as much oxygen as possible. What is being described in that part of the video is when a single mitochondria is consuming as much oxygen as possible, or simply all the oxygen available to it.

      Vivo Phys - Evan Matthews thank you for the reply, so VO2 max is when there is oxygen available but the mitochondria are already at maximum capacity ? What would cause a mitochondria to not have enough oxygen ? Not enough capillaries to supply oxygen possible ?

      Typically, VO2max will occur when there is not enough blood flow to the body to supply the oxygen. So it is limited by cardiac output not the mitochondria. If you were able to get more blood flow out of the heart your body would likely activate even more muscle fibers (with more mitochondria) to utilize it.
