I went to NYC from LA last year just to go to that store, buy some shoes, and go to a Broadway show! Was a great trip and love the new cordovan leather shoes!
I bought from Carmina, they had my pair made in Spain. The company is A1 excellent, I rate their quality almost neck and neck with C&J, different being slightly more detailed, super comfortable, light weight and slender but less rugged and solid than C&J, really impressed with the stitching details. Also, I rate Carmina way above TLB Mallorca, only things I loved about TLB are the shape of their last and the comfort having softer leather and wider fit. Now in contrast, I did have a bad costumer experience with Carmina Shoe Maker, their staff in particular the one on Madison and 53rd Ave are rude, unengaged and unknowledgeable. For a $700+ boot I expected more feedback and information about the product, at least a formal conversation, and after I received the boot I requested the matching belt which was not available at the moment, I left my information for them to order it, the quickly jot it down on paper and said they will do it blah blah blah trying to get rid of me to the next costumer, and it’s been a year since. No call, no belt and I’m not bothering to follow up. I’ved matched it with an Allen Edmonds belt already for the moment.

I bought a pair of their Chelsea boots and they are gorgeous - beautiful finish and construction. Comfortable right out of the box too. Promised time was two months but I had them in less than six weeks.
Im delighted to say just received my first pair of Carmina shoes, single Monk Strap in Brown Boxcalf and yes im hooked. Amazing finish, Goodyear Welted, Welt fudging, stacked leather heels even that little detail of a Gentlemans notch on the heel. All round beautiful shoe.
I got some alligator Chelsea boots 12 months ago and I hardly ever take them off. So comfortable.

As someone who spend his teenage years in New York City and had high end clothes and shoes at my fingertips but never able to acquire them due to 'financial and social status', now at 55 are beginning to really appreciate those things. I am updating my wardrobe and adding pieces of well-made clothes and also shoes. Although I am in the $200 to $250 range shoes, one day I hope to purchase a pair of Carmina's wingtips. Kirby, you have ruined my trips to the local mall where there is really nothing of value for me, especially shoes. If I ever go back to NYC, I will definitely visit Carmina. My last name comes from the Canary Island of Spain, so there is a connection.

Visited NYC for the first time in May and I visited that exact boutique. Even by American standards, I have a wide foot so finding good shoes that fit online is a dicey proposition.
The staff was nothing short of fantastic and we found not one but two lasts that work and bought a pair of black whole-cuts. If you are in NYC, I can not recommend them enough

How do Carmina rtw shoes compare to the established Northampton shoe brands like C&J?
Carmina might not be as perfectly finished but at least they don't use a glued gemming like the Northampton manufacturers.
I will stop in there in 2 weeks and if they feel (on the foot) as well as they look - I will purchase.

Wonderful video Kirby. I tried contacting Carmina several times last year to order a pair of shoes from them (by your video recommendation no less) and they never responded to me. Can't sell shoes if you don't call the customer back. I ended up going with a different company to my disappointment.
Carmina has issues. I ordered a pair of MTO shoes from them and the quality I got was bad. I could not believe it. The problems were sort of fixed. I love wearing them because they are quite beautiful and comfortable. I've read on forums where the MTOs have had issues for a couple of years. No way I would order bespoke or MTO shoes from them unless it was "100% satisfaction or your money back no questions asked". Then maybe.
Even after my experience, I would still by a pair of shoes from them. I bought mine from the 42nd Street store in Manhattan, a few blocks away from the store Kirby visited, which really did their best to make things right. That's why they didn't lose a customer. But I'll only buy in the store in stock and not pay money until I see the shoes first.
Everyone deserves a second chance especially with how much I love their shoes. But I think they should put some money into CS and QA instead of marketing and a whole new and probably very expensive service.

I spent an hour at the shop last year. I have big feet (12.5 or 13 EEE) and I tried a few lasts without much success. They took my name and number because they expected additional shoes, which I could try for size/last before a custom order. They never called me back…so, not a great experience.

As much as I like these shoes and many similar I own nothing beats a running shoe for comfort and functionality especially if you walk 5-9 kms a day.. in todays life style of remote working getting up wearing suits is finished, nobody does it… most men stopped wearing ties 15 years ago, even if they still used suits… I have loads just gathering dust… and all hand tailored. We live in a different age.
I would have to disagree and by coincidence the most comfortable formal shoes I’ve owned where these Carminas, Allen Edmonds and TLB Mallorca. I live in NYC where I drive and take public transport, I walk miles, run to catch the buss or cross these crazy streets and walk on gravel and I feel like I’m wearing sneakers. Now I do wear insoles since I have flat feet, so maybe get a wider size and put comfortable insoles in your pairs might help, but looking good in well made shoes will never go out if style in my opinion.
As men we can’t hide behind the changing times as an excuse to overlook proper dress; make no mistake, this age of leisurewear is nothing more than a trend that will come and go as classic tailoring makes its way full circle, after all, there’s a reason the suit has persisted and endured over the past century despite every possible en vogue. Proper dress standards start and stop with us, thankfully the remote work age has refined classic tailoring to a deliberate style choice rather than a stiff requirement, those that do so, wish to do so.

I bought two Carmina shoes. They are cheap and quality is much lower than John Lobb and Crockett and Jones. The designs of the shoes are mostly copied from George Cleverly. The sales people are young and snobby. The upper area ( topline) of the heel always get wavy/ wrinkly. These shoes are for people with narrow feet only. I am talking about c and D. They lobby customers to get the customized shoes which take 6 months.
I couldn't even afford to use the quality, craftsmanship and tradition of their bathroom. 🤥

I live in NY and after hearing lot of great things, I went and tried their oxfords. What no one, certainly no YT "sartorial" channels praising Carmina ever tell you, is that most of Carmina shoes are very hard to fit!!! Even though, I don't have what some might call a "difficult" feet, I have no problem with Allen Edmonds or many of English shoes, but I had hard time with Carina shoes, although they seem very nicely made with premium materials(considering the price especially) but I humbly recommend anyone to try them first! In my case it absolutely did not work, and even after salesman trying to put some extra piece of leather insole at my hill that improved a loose fit somewhat, it was still very far from perfect! It may not be for me for that reason, but otherwise, they seem to have a great product and I wish them all the success!
