Covering the Coronavirus Contagion
On January 23, Chinese authorities shut down the city of Wuhan. In short order, 17 more cities were quarantined, affecting nearly 60 million people.
The orders issued by Beijing were significant, but late in coming: the first official case of the virus was confirmed almost two months ago. That was how long it took for China's state-controlled media to stop downplaying the seriousness of the outbreak and start providing the kind of information that can save lives.
By that stage, however, millions of Chinese citizens had passed through the affected region - unaware of the risks involved.
With the death toll now in the hundreds, the number of infected in the thousands, the coronavirus - like the coverage of this story - has gone global.

The Saga of the Kidnapped Bookseller of Hong Kong
For more than 20 years, Lam Wing-kee owned Causeway Bay Books, a store that not only specialised in literature critical of the Chinese Communist Party and the private lives of Beijing's ruling elite, but perfected the art of smuggling those books - which are banned in China - onto the mainland.
His work turned him into a target. In 2015, Lam disappeared along with four of his colleagues, only to resurface months later on Chinese state television, "confessing" to the crime of smuggling contraband.
The Listening Post's Johanna Hoes travelled to Lam's new home, Taiwan, to speak to him about his time in a secret Chinese prison, the bizarre circumstances of his release, and his stated wish to finish what he started - running a bookstore with a mission.

Nahhh first case was mid December. It takes up to 2 weeks for symptoms to show... First case could have happened in November. Wonder how many have left since then. Too little too late.

History doesn't repeat himself people repeating history because they never learn for their mistake... History is written record all you have to do is read the record and make a guide line to how to prevent the same mistake to happen again..

I don't think it's quite that easy to learn from the past. After all most mistakes were made so many years ago by other generations who are not here anymore to tell the stories of the great lessons learned and unlearned. But there is a book written about the 1918 Spanish flu which did start here in Kansas in the military and traveled around the country with them. But it was not able to be contained and eventually it was discovered that it was being spread by the mailmen.

- last 5-6 consquetive days the dead toll increased by 40-45/day... and it seems like a constant but in truth nature doesn't work that way..there is something for sure has been going on hidden. The actual death toll is way higher than this for sure. A lot of people's dead even not getting registered.
- Overall, the whole world will be fed what China government wants to feed.
I feel so bad for these poor people who are dying and suffering without even having treatments.

-the number of hospital beds and doctors/nurses registered in Wuhan is very very sufficient for receiving and curing for the alleged number of patients.
-up to now. the official number of ppl affected outside and in Wuhan is 103 hundreds and 41 hundreds respectively. But the official number of ppl escaped before the city lockdown is about 5million, and 9 million ppl are living in Wuhan now.

If you do not have masks you may have to fashion something from fabric. Use safety goggles to protect eyes, nitrile gloves. Sanitize surfaces (bleach water mixture) and wash hands. Avoid going out if you can. Use what money you do have to buy basic beans, rice, lentils. Rice is affordable. Buy things that keep for a time. Canned goods, oatmeal. Clean empty juice or soda containers well and store water. Try selling a few things to earn enough cash for extra itemsyou may need. Don't let fear paralyze you. Wishing you good health and peace.
Pray, God is real. He hears your prayers. Money won't get anybody through this. God is in control. Have faith. He will provide. Death is nothing to fear with God in your heart anyhow. He loves us. He just wants humans to repent. After we do there is nothing to fear. He got his people.

The Chinese citizens’ internet is heavily monitored and they can’t use any program except government monitored ones like weibo and wechat etc.. as AI filtered all subversive comments and deletes any account even looking at it. You can’t post anything that they don’t see. You get jail time for having whatsapp on your phone. It’s big brother big time thanks to American companies sharing their intellectual property of technology. I just arrived to Canada from Europe las Friday and on arrival to Toronto there were other flights including from China and no one, no authority had done or show any type of preventions. All the passengers were mix together , like animals but no screenings , no protection nothing done at all to prevent it.

That's true. The incubation period is up to 14 days for this virus. Also, 5 million people flew out of Wuhan _after_ the Chinese government knew about coronavirus. That's why it's not a global problem.
