Part 1: • Remember all those swa...
Part 2: • Introducing a Carniola...
Part 4: • Profoundly Bummed - Be...
Part 5: • Just Wait... A Beekeep...
The next morning, I came up to check on the queen and found her in a peculiar spot. Was she being rejected? Or was she just lost? Either way, it seems she was eventually welcomed to the hive without too much drama. Now we wait and see WHAT HAPPENS NEXT... Dun, dun, duuuuuunnnn.......

man, they got her out in one day? I prefer it take them 3 days to give her a chance to fill the hive with her scent, and to give the hive a chance to get used to it. It usually take a hive about 3 days to get used to a new queen.
So cool to see the progress over just 1 year. It seems like it's been so much longer than that since you adopted those hives from your neighbor. Look at u go man!
thanks for sharing this thrilling story..
and bee stuff in general
I am supposing the queen got out at night and so the hive was at rest. they clustered around her to keep her warm, so she couldn't move into the hive. Eventually she just forgot what was going on because she couldn't move for so long and was being treated as if she wasn't actually IN the hive. Which she wasn't!
Yes, the Italians were very hospitable. It was quite a shock to see her up there. At first I thought she was dead, but then realized the bees were keeping her warm.
Just my own re-queening story, for what it's worth.
Checked my hive one week, no queen, no eggs, only old larva and capped brood. A little deeper look, noticed a few capped queen cells. So I immediately put everything back together, and left the hive alone for 3 weeks. Come back to check on the hive and new queen is laying eggs like a champ, plenty of bees in the hive.
Sometimes less intervention is better I guess. Hope everything's working out with the new queen, by the looks of it in your case they needed a little help.
Love it, the old suspense song at the end......lol Great stuff sir.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing this series and experience!
Have you tried the paper bag method?. Introducing the queen in with a small handful of bees and shaking them in the paper bag ( made with newspaper).
Thus covering the bees with the queen feromones.
Then placing the paper bag with the top folded over into the hive between the Centare frames.
By the time the the bees eat through the perper bag they all get covered in feromones too.
This reduces the chance of a queen being rejected by allot.
I worked for people that use this method and their introduced queens never get rejected
Part 4? this surprise looks like a hangover :D
Hopefully, it´s a good surprise.
maybe it is a possibility to named the ex Italian into mixed hive now? :)
You look relieved. Keep it up mate, well done. How's the learning curve?
This series is showing you the rollercoaster I go through with these hives. And the series is not over yet. Stay tuned.
The Music touch at the end is genial !!!
I really enjoy your videos

Mutt bees 🤣🤣🤣
"My names spike, im a pure bread Mutt"
Your queen might have went out to mate and then the new queen was on the top board because the other queen came back from mating and reclaimed her hive. But that's just a guess. I wasn't there
Dun dun duuuuuun! 😱 Part 4?!?! Here's hoping it isn't drastic!
Part 4???? This is worse than a TV series that ends with a cliff hanger each week. You're making the case for binge watching your channel! :)
I'm adding episodes as they happen... and something just happened that may take this up another notch! The suspense is just for fun. I'm trying to share this as it happened to me. Thanks for watching!
It looked like the queen might not have had enough room to get down in the hive. Was the cage blocking her? I could see that the workers could fit but was it too tight for the queen?
Part 4 ??? Really ?? OMG!!!
There was plenty of room. She just crawled out the candy tube and went up instead of down. Then probably got lost in the dark. Crazy stuff has happened since I uploaded this video this morning. This is going beyond Part 4.
sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see the outcome
Love your vids!
Just pick her up with your fingers ! do not use the wooden stick ! next time your put the queen in, hang her between the frames and put the lock on the hive, wait 7-9 days before you check
I am looking to switch half my coloines to carniolians in the spring..I talians are just hard to stay a head of.....i will follow your journey with the carnis!
N00b question: What's the difference between nectar and honey? You typically show frames and say "look at all that nectar" but it looks like honey to me.
Nectar is the raw syrup they bring in from flowers. It's clear and just looks like sugar water. The bees actually fan the nectar to evaporate the water out of it. Once it reaches the perfect consistency, it is capped with wax and officially called honey. If it's un-capped, it's nectar.
Don't forget that the processor bees add digestive enzymes, like invertase and diastase, to the nectar, when they regurgitate it, to convert it (e.g. invertase converts sucrose to glucose and fructose, and glucose oxidase catalyzes glucose to gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide, giving it antimicrobial properties). I wanted to call my honey B3 for Bill's Bee Barf, but my Better Half responded with a resounding "No!" She never lets me have any fun.
You've already had several comments about waiting before opening a hive into which a new queen has been introduced, so 'nuff said there. It LOOKED like it went well, anyway, but waiting for Part 4 to see what happened. As you have found out, bees will keep you on your toes.
Jbillja Greenrose Thanks for the more thorough explanation of honey vs. nectar. I have still not had a honey harvest. It's not part of my life yet.
As a rule, I don't disturb a hive for at least 28 days after signs a new queen is being raised. Otherwise you can very well requeen a queenright colony.
Yes. I'm learning more and more to just wait and let the bees do what they do. My problem is that in 28 days, we will be having freezing nights and I will be buttoning up the hives for winter.
Vino Farm I know it's too late, but I'd have waited as long as possible, and if there was still no sign of a queen, do a newspaper combine with another hive.
But that then can cause an imbalance of the hive. To many bees added could cause a depletion of honey stores to fast. Still enough time to fix. Vino Farms did great. Even with a small lapse in brood cycle there is enough bees to keep it strong.
The queen cage just had the entrance to the hive blocked enough she got confused. The workers were protecting her overnight. I paused the vid just as you said you were going into the hive to check things out. Right now I'm urgently screaming to stay out of the hive with that newly entered queen. There's nothing in there of interest to you at the moment. You should leave everything alone until that queen gets oriented and set. I know you aren't going to do that and it's driving me nuts. You'd be okay to do it maybe if she had been in the hive all night but this is a mistake. I hope it turns out okay, I'll keep following along to see in hopes it's okay by now. Just please don't make this mistake in the future. A new queen needs time to orient and the workers need time to fully accept her. Even though they have not killed her yet, going in early can still make them reject her or going in not knowing where a new queen is you could hurt her with her not being oriented. Just leave them alone at this particular point and let them work out the kinks (if there is a next time). At this point you've done all you can do...swallow your curiosity for a few days and let it be.
Brent An excellent tip. Sorry for not waiting.
Agreed, I introduced a queen and had missed a queen cell. When I looked in the queen was walking around but not laying. Later on a new queen was in her place. Sometimes they will swarm with your introduced queen and other times she will be treated as an undesirable queen and superseded. Opening the hive too much at this stage could end up with the introduced queen being balled.
That's okay, it's just a little frustrating not being able to give advice in real time, lol. I've finished the video now and see that you found her and she' appeared to be doing okay. I love Carnies. (the bees) I hope this works out for you, I noticed there is a part 4 so now I'm really nervous. I hope they didn't swarm on you.
Holy moly.... Since I uploaded this video two hours ago, I have experienced something that will take you on a rollercoaster. This is going beyond Part 4!
Dude...you're killing me. ;)
What happened to your swarm trap ? Obviously nothing or there would be a update . Just wondered
Still there, still empty. You'll hear about it if I catch anything!
Hey Vino, great video. Do you like your Carniolans? Are they sweet?
They were. They died three years ago, but I always liked the Carniolans.
aww pool little one I would bet she was lost :( the way she walked around the hive with the other bees I would say she is just getting the lay of the land, I can't wait to see the rest!
Exciting stuff coming. Stay tuned.
Ahh! I wish you could have saved Balboa's genetics..
Rifin Silva If a mated queen does come back, that option could, possibly, theoretically be on the table. We will see.
Vino Farm I hope so..😁
Vino Farm Haha...nice suspense.
Part 4? ....is this where you find Queen Balboa in your swarm hive on the tree? Can't wait! Hope Queen Carni didn't decide to take off, might have been an idea to put a queen excluder over the bottom of the hive for a week until she had definitely started laying ...but Hey Ho! lol :)
DreamofaHive Finding Balboa in the swarm trap would have been magical... but something else sort of magical has happened. Stay tuned. (And thanks for your tips!)
Can't wait :) And I am more than happy to give tips ...if you ever need any real time tips feel free to email me collettewells@hotmail.co.uk at any time :)
Part 4? WTF?!?!
New information has come in since the upload... This is going beyond that. Stay tuned.
What new twist can come from this part 4?
Ohhhhh Boy......
Hey, Mabe if you take a brake from another week and the new queen chill out and make the colony work right its good for all. Dont you think?
Fantastic advice. After this video, she had six days undisturbed. Please stay tuned for part 4.
Vino Farm ahhhhh when will part 4 come out. I hope it's not a long wait! :)
Hive Mutt :)
it's a thriller!
Anyone see two queens with Yello dots at 5:05 at the bottom frame
Could be drones
She was out on the town with her wee skirt on
What is the story about all medium frames???
Your still putting your frame parts on the ground....STOP unless you want every pest in your yard in your hive...this includes the lid!
Maybe the new Queen had a Garden of Gethsemane moment...
She’s not squawking the right frequency , she can adjust slightly up or down . But most hives will have such a different frequency it won’t help to adjust such a small amount
flow frames now ????
Probably not. They only have a couple more weeks of fall flowers and there is no way the flow frames would be filled enough to be useable.
Nooooooo stay out of that hive!!!!!!!!
Again... I know this now. Sorry.
I'll go with Dimwit for 500 Alex.
I'm joking, by the way.
