I currently have two, with the third one on its way. I purchased a VP broad nib unit for $70, which I have in my matte black A1, and the regular A1 nib in the orange one. I use the ink cartridge, and ink it using a syringe. I have to admit I truly do enjoy writing with the A1, as well as the A1 with the VP nib unit. I purchased the VP nib unit from Atlas Stationers. The VP nib unit fits perfectly in the A1. I am looking forward to Majohn manufacturing nib units for the A1. Thank goodness for the A1, for many FP users cannot afford to spend $160 & up for a VP. The A1 affords us an opportunity to enjoy a clickable FP. Three Pilot VP would cost me $471. Three A1s cost me $117. Adding the cost of the VP broad nib unit the final cost was $187. That is a $284 difference, and for those of us living on fixed incomes, that $284 is significant.
I recently just purchased this pen and love it. You pretty much described it exactly how I see it. It's smooth and no hard starts. I've had no trouble with it at all. I just have issues with filling the converter. I like a good full pen and that tiny converter is hard to knowingly fill up. It's filled with Sailor Manyo Haha and in my every day carry. I feel like it's worth having and a great notes pen. Great review🖋
I actually have a few Vanishing Points and they're good -- I kinda want one of these Majohn A1s because I like one of the colors and would like a purse pen that I don't have to worry about, that maybe has what would be a PVP Fine-Medium nib (I heard the Majohns are a little thicker than a Pilot Fine). I would like to get a FM Pilot nib unit but most such models are limited to sale in Japan. But I'm hesitant because the Majohn nib unit apparently leaks sometimes.
That is one of the issues with this pen. Apparently this is hit or miss. Maybe I just got lucky, my pen doesn’t have any of those issues. No leaking, no hard start it writes perfectly. I have a co-worker, she has one these and for whatever reason the pen leaks and that doesn’t have to do with her pen at all. She used green ink and green inks are known to creep for whatever reason (that’s according to her). She tried a different coloured ink and it now works perfectly.
I purchased a Majonh a1 in Glossy black and yes, it writes good but it I'm convinced is not really a Pilot VP killer, having both im hand I definitely can feel and see the difference in quality on the built and the writing experience. But overall is a good relatively cheap pen to use as a beater pen at work or when you don't want to risk your VP. Thank you for the video.
You mentioned that its swappable with vanishing point, but you dont have one? How? You also dont show us the top view of the pen when it closed and opened. Vanishing point have that mechanism that protect the nib from squirting ink to your shirt and that should be the important part of the video.
Hi! Vanishing Point owner here, the main difference between the VP and the A1 is that the A1 is made with cheaper materials such as Steel, where the VP is made of Brass, the nibs also differ, Pilot offers B, M, F, EF nib options, Majohn offers F & EF. The VP has an 18k Gold Nib, or the option for an alloy nib at a cheaper price point, whereas the A1 uses a steel nib. For the price, the A1 is a brilliant pen, but it doesn't replace the VP, if someone wants a VP, they'll go for that over the A1 and vice versa. I've also heard the nib unit for the A1 has leaking issues, but I believe that was one or two batches. As well as that, they visually look somewhat similar, but do differ slightly. If you don't have the money, buy an A1, brilliant pen for the money, but if you can afford it, get a VP. Hope this helps. (Sidenote, if you want a cheaper cartridge than paying for the pilot one, get the Majohn A1 cartridge and eyedropper set off of aliexpress!)
Well said. Pilot pens are hands down one of the best in the market. They’re definitely my preferred pens. :) looking forward to get vanishing point soon. There’s a reason why they put a premium on these pens, they’re really reliable pens - a joy to write with.
PotatoMochi: When I first got my A1 I also experienced a bit of leaking. Discovered it was not the pen. I had not properly seated the ink cartridge before putting on the metal cover over the ink cartridge. The ink cartridge needs to be pushed down until you hear a little click. I have been writing with my first A1 since March/April. Love it, love it, love it.
From Amazon. I’ll paste the link here. www.amazon.com/Fountain-Retractable-Converter-Writing-Version/dp/B09MR36DNZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=J8SD23RR4WYL&keywords=majohn+capless&qid=1655849295&sprefix=majohn+capless%2Caps%2C70&sr=8-2
Yeah. I don’t know. While the clickable fountain pen with retractable nib is most commonly associated with Pilot vanishing point. I do not know if Pilot has exclusive rights to the design. If you find anything let me know. I’m also interested to know the answer.
Wow, it’s just a copy-paste of Pilot’s Capless.. So blatant. Didn’t even try anything new. This kind of theft should never be purchased or even be considered for videos.
They have the clipless version, Pilot does not. Majohn uses stainless steel nib, Pilot uses gold nib and metal alloy nib. I don’t know the rules about patents and copyrights of these pens and I understand the negative feeling of having somebody copy your work. That is why I am curious to know if Pilot has exclusive rights to this design, or if this design has become public. If Pilot has exclusive rights, then they should sue. And if the design has become public, then I guess copying is allowed. Pilot is Pilot and they have earned an excellent reputation in the fountain pen community. They are known to make excellent and reliable writing tools. Majohn/Moonman is an alternative for those who may not want to spend as much on the similar writing tools.
@@tintanna4793 I haven't personally confirmed this, but I hear the patent expired or went into public domain and that's how they're able to copy it so closely.
That’s what I thought, otherwise Pilot should have sued Moonman/Majohn for copying their designs by now. There’s that patent issue between Twsbi and Narwhal pens but I couldn’t find anything about Pilot.
The video I didn’t know I needed!
Thank you! I’m glad it helped. :)

Yup it’s definitely a good alternative to VP. Glad you enjoy it. 😊
Very good video 🙌 Thank you
Thank you! Glad you like it. Feel free to check out my other videos.

Yup! Exactly.
How does the nib feel compare
Nice pen
Thanks!

How does the nib feel compare to the actual vanishing point
I do not have a vanishing point, but this Majohn A1 cap less fountain pen has a very smooth - buttery smooth nib.

Is the Majohn A1 manufactured in China or in Taiwan?
I think this is manufactured in China
I heard it leaks. What do you do when it’s leaking?
So far, I have not experienced it leaking.

I had a white Pilot Decimo Capless pen and a lady friend liked it so I sold oit to her.
Do you also have a Majohn Capless?
@@tintanna4793 No I haven't got one, yet

I think the same way!! It´s simply a awful counterfeit!!
