- Hello pen friends!
I’m looking at a new design of the Majohn A1 from 365 Days Stationary Store on AliExpress! Check it out here:

I have this exact same pen. I got it about a week ago, and so far, I LOVE it. Smooth writing, and the nib is nicely wet--it works surprisingly well with sheening inks despite being a tiny EF nib.
The knurled metal body feels substantial and solid in the hand, and is beautifully balanced. This pen punches WAY above it's price point, and is a great alternative for people who always wanted a Vanishing Point, but can't afford or justify the $150+ price tag...
Yeah, I’ve been wanting to buy a real VP for some time now, but can’t get up the motivation to spend 3x as much when this is such a fantastic pen already. I want to check out the A2 and the A3 as well.
Congrats on coming far enough up in this old world to get the opportunity to sell out! Everyone who ever talks smack about selling out, it’s just because we haven’t had any offers and we are mad about it. You’ve spent so much time and energy drawing and reviewing these products, I feel like you earned it. More than.
Thank you! I’m mostly joking around though. I get offers every once in a while, and I turn most of them down. This just happened to be exactly something I wanted to do, so I said yes. People do like to know where my stuff is coming from though :)
Thank you for the laughs, I really like your humor!
This one was fun to make!
Btw, try a soft extra fine Pilot Falcon for drawing. It's great! Love your drawing talents!
It’s on my list! I just haven’t been able to justify the cost of another gold nib pen just yet. My wife needs a new vacuum cleaner!
Dude I love the design look of this one. Might just have to get this just for sketching
It’s a really nice addition to my collection for sure!
Hey Stephen, I just ordered from an ebay seller the Stripes version. Waiting....for the pen to arrive lol.
Ah, my old nemesis: ground shipping from China. We meet again…
Own 5 A1s, (green/blue/matte black/orange/silver), and 4 A2s (yellow/yellow & black/blue/purple). Love this
pen. Can't wait for them to come out with a few other colors, and a Med nib unit. Also purchased a Pilot VP
med.nib unit, which works well with the A1 & A2. Nine Pilot VPs would have cost me over $1,200 vs 9 A1s/A2s
cost me approximately $280.
Cant argue with that math! If they continue to sell, I don’t see why they wouldn’t keep coming out with more colors/designs.
I bought the A1 because I was interested in the VP. Would you say it’s still worth it to buy the VP?
I tried for years and never got used to the clip on my Pilot VP. That pen is gone and I got the A1 clipless and put a Pilot 18 K gold Broad nib it, and now have a perfect pen!
I never gave proper dues to what a game changer that clipless model was for some. I actually like the clip, but I’m glad that there’s more options out there for people who need something just a little bit different.
Thank you very much for a fantastic video. My Majohn A1 arrived in today's mail. I thoroughly cleaned it with ammonia/water solution and lubricated the converter with silicone grease. It's a wonderful writer. My pen is a goldenrod color with black trim. Handsome, i think. Maybe later I'll replace the steel point with a gold one. (They're not exorbitantly priced. )
I’ve heard a lot about people replacing their A1 nibs with the VP gold units. I’ve heard it’s exactly the same, and somewhat (if only slightly) cheaper. With all the different variants that the A1 comes in, I can see why people are doing it!
I’ve a VP, Curidas, A1 and A2.. I was very close to buying this particular model of A1 also a few days ago.
Whether making of knock-offs is ethical or not, A1 and A2 (at $30) offer much more value for money than a $200 VP..
Also, I’ve Majohn X1 ( a copy of MB Boheme capped retractable FP) which is my most favorite of my Majohns (I’ve N2, N6, N8, 80s Mini, Wancai mini etc.. )
That’s a very good point. The more you pay for something, the bigger of a ‘hype’ it has to live up to. For me personally, once a pen gets too expensive, I may love it and think it’s the best thing ever, but I’m not leaving the house with it. I’m not loaning it to anyone. So, kind of by default… it CAN’T be my favorite pen, because I rarely get to use it.
I have two of these, matte black and glossy orange, both with clips. Just wish nibs were available. This one looks quite fancy. I may check out the A2 for some variety.
An M nib would fly off the shelves for this one. Especially considering that the ef here is so fine. Not complaining, because that’s just my style, but more variety in the nibs would be awesome here.
@@stepheninksAgreed, I wish more Chinese pens would have the option.
I had the same issue with the converter, where I couldn't tell and it didn't show up when I tipped it. That's the one thing I didn't like. That and the plastic part of it. I've got a Platinum converter that is glass (or a harder plastic), which I prefer. That being said, I love writing with this pen and I'm a total fan.
Platinum is also my favorite converter. If they ever made a standard international version, I would buy 10 without blinking.
I bought a teal A2. I love it but it got dropped and not the little door won't close. It dries out now... I can't figure out how to fix.
That’s a bummer. I did the same thing with one of my metal pens, and now it won’t snap on correctly to the cap.
I have two A1 pens and one A2 and love both models.
The Majohn converter is far superior to Pilot's.
I really want an A2! I’ve been eyeing the black and white finish for the last few months.

I liked A1, but my absolute favourite pen is A2. I ended up selling my $200 Pilot Custom after I got it, simply because it can be operated with one hand and it's light enough that I can get through a whole day of writing without my hand getting cramped. A1 and Pilot's own Vanishing Point are around 30 g when inked, while A2 is no more than 20 g, and that makes all the difference in the world for writing comfort.
I have just learned about the A2, and it is definitely on my list.
If you ever want to "upgrade" your pen to have a nicer nib, you can buy vanishing point nib units and they git in A1 and A2 pens
Has the seal improved over the original A1? I’ve found ink evaporates quickly out of mine
Internally, I think it’s the exact same pen. I personally have not had ink evaporating out of my pen/cartridge to a large degree on either of my pens, but I do notice that the feed dries up if you haven’t been using the pen for a while. A few gentle taps on the paper tends to get it going.
It's ok. Don't beat yourself up!🙃as long as you are being honest about what the deal is with the pens.
Mostly just joking around. But I definitely want everyone to know if I get anything comped for a review. All my other pens were either gifts from neutral parties (family, friends) or things I purchased myself.
Thanks Stephen, I purchased this exact model about a week ago and it's curently on a SLOW boat from China. This is my second A1. I had no intention of buying another but I really liked the finish. What's funny; my wife and girls gifted me an original Vanishing Point about a year ago, and I began wanting to see what the A1 was like in comparison. To be honest, I like it as much as the original pilot and I feel more comfortable using it since I'm less concerned if I lose it or break it. My only concern with the new pen, is the difference of the finish between both ends of the pen. My OCD will drive me crazy. Hope thats not the case.
I'll know more in about a half a year when the thing arrives. Jeez Louise; what do they do, ship'em by sail boat?!?!?!?!?
I know that slow boat feeling. I ordered something on Amazon that for some reason is going to take 3 weeks to get here. Summer is ruined! But on the finish note, I really only noticed that when I was looking at the pen. I don't really notice it when I'm using the pen.
Im looking for a good fountain pen for daily use is the a1 good or what would you suggest, at least around $50
I’m not sure if by your comment you mean pens under $50, or over, so I’ll give you my best of both.
Either way, this pen is a great everyday writer. My favorite thing about it when I use it in my daily life (I’m a teacher), is that I do t need to uncap it before using it. I’ve never had it leak, and though it tends to dry out if left in the pen for a really long time, if you’re using it every day, it’s not really noticeable.
At the under 50 mark, I highly recommend you check out the Kaweco sport, Platinum Procyon, and most of the pens made by PenBBS (especially the 456 and 308). The Lamy Safari is, in my opinion, highly underrated as an everyday writer.
Above 50, I really like the Conklin All-American (a bit big for some, but I enjoy it), the Platinum Curidas, or the Twsbi Diamond 580 ALR.
@@stepheninks thank you, sorry for the late reply
@@stepheninks @linedmusings Mine came in today i got the clipless version and i inked it with oxblood ink i love it so far tomorrow I'll test it more hopefully it survives my bookbag
I put a Pilot M gold nib unit in my A1. Nice!
I heard they fit exactly. Is there any big savings with getting the nib unit on its own? Seems like it’s would cost about the same…
$75 on Ebay.
@@Mikey-ii8efoh, okay so you’d save about $40. Nice.
The temperature of writing bit at the end 😅
You can feel it through the screen, right?
