As a victim of clergy sexual abuse as a twelve year altar boy, I can so relate to your story.Fear was the ruling emotion in my life. I feared my alcoholic father. I feared the priests and nuns at school.I was taught to fear God.After the abuse, I attempted suicide. Depression, suicidal thoughts and addiction became my life.I never told anyone about the abuse. Nobody would ever believe a priest would sexually abuse a child in 1961.So much has changed. Today, I am a former addict.I have talked about the abuse.I no longer think about suicide.To get to where I am, I needed to get rid of all the religious propaganda that was instilled in me as a child.

being a survivor of this type of abuse by a priest, I buried it from the age of 5 until the age of 50...the priest told me it was a special thing that happened between myself and Jesus. He then said if I was to say anything to anyone about the incidents ( it went on for much of my 5th year) God would leave me...the Pope needed to do more than chastise the bishops - the bishops need to be held accountable for their actions even if it(and I believe it would) lead to the discovery that the Vatican itself was as aware as the bishops were and just as complicit in the cover up if not the author of it...wherever there has been the catholic church there has been predatory behavior on the part of some of the priests - and now they are finding that other christian sects and other institutions are revealed as having the same difficulty and handling it in the same way...
They're all the same. Just like saying one political party is different than another. It causes division, so you don't notice college going up another 30% this year, for example.
they are still protecting and shuffling those priests.
Those dreadful priests did not show those children "mercy".
And the sick disgusting hierarchy that did everything possible to cover this were worse than them .the Catholic church is a false sick organisation
I used to almost despise my mother's involvement in my life when I was young and how she was almost always present when I was dropped off at basketball practice or anything really that involved me being involved in an activity where older individuals were in charge. She would get to know them until she felt comfortable I guess and then she would back off a bit. It drove me completely crazy because I never saw any of the other boys my age going through this but now that I'm older all I can do is thank her for being so diligent and looking out for me, even though it drove me kooky😂love ya mom💪👵🏻

Covering for a rapist or acting to maintain the reputation of the Church is not a mistake or an error in judgement- it’s a choice.
They paid a lot of money to PR advisors. Look up Terry Prone, a very well connected spin doctor who was wheeled out for damage control when the Tuam baby scandal hit the news.
Her husband was on the board of the national broadcaster, and her son was a presenter on one of the private radio channels. They'd covered a lot of bases on managing a message and 'sanitising' the language around this horrific behaviour.

Listening to the first woman and how she was so carefully groomed made me feel ill and how she as a child blamed herself. That sicko ruined her whole life. "sic- life used to be a rainbow, now it is all grey". And years of depression. And when she tried to tell the priest and he blamed her? That's just depravity, just horrid depravity. "We don't want to ruin his life." One life compared to the hundreds he preyed upon and ruined for life.

It is thought that this degree of abuse, which is no more than in an average population, began to occur with the break down of cultural restrictions and taboos in the late 60s. There may have been such a severe difference between the catholic cleric’s lifestyle and that of the general population, that predators no longer feared the consequence of disobedience to their vows.
Francis is a vast hypocrite. He reversed several of Benedict's dismissals of perv priests (he formulated a clear process where before anything from Sixtus V hanging them to the more recent paedo shuffle where pervs were moved around after treatment at the Servants of the Paraclete, who founder gave up, saying those pervs cannot be treated). One that nearly happened was allowing one Inzoli to retire to peace and quite as a priest after abusing children in confession. Only when Inzoli was jailed, did Francis leave the dismissal in place. While Abp of Buenos Aires and head of Argentina's Episcopal Conference, he had published a three vol attack on the victims of one 'Fr' Grassi, an abuser of orphans. Francis' pal Gustavo Vera is very shady indeed, supposedly running a charity for runaway youth.

@@nastyakivathegamecrasher6197 I sometimes feel the same way. I left the Roman Catholic Church angry at CHRIST. But I am now Episcopalian and have made my peace with him. I was molested by a priest when I was 9-10 years old. In my 20's I was abused by 3 more priests. The Episcopal church has become my home. Otger than that, I can only say that I understand your anger.
Oliver O Grady sentenced to 22months in prison yesterday
sentenced in October, but released again in March. That was his 9th conviction, he should be locked up in the Central Mental Hospital as he clearly is unable to stop offending.

Gross misconduct is something you can be sacked for- turning up late every day, coming onto a colleague at a staff party or maybe, stealing the Lourdes money like Father Ted.

What a profound metaphor that priest drew on in the closing stages of the video....Comparing a loving church with a Pelican, the bird who would feed her own children on strips of her own flesh, if needed, to the church of today, who he compares to a Black Crow who feeds on her own!

I understand the Ryan Report has 2600 pages of testimony.In Canada we may have as many as 30,000 unmarked grave, the horrific legacy of the residential schools system, which was overseen by federal government of the day an the RC church This is on top of generations of abuse in all communities. We must make this right

No pope has been innocent. All have covered up the scandal. It was first discussed at Toledo in the 5th century. Saying that only Francis is the problem is not facing reality.

The Catholic Church is greatly to blame. But so also is the Irish State. From 1922 until it was deleted in an amendment in 1972 The Irish Constitution had the following wording "The State recognises the special position of the Holy Catholic Apostolic and Roman Church as the guardian of the Faith professed by the great majority of the citizens" Half a century where brainwashing citizens were discouraged and constantly lectured about ever reporting against or speaking ill of their clergy.

Here's my rundown on the Catholic Church as a former Catholic. First the clergy don gaudy robes and convince you they represent God. That's power. To cement the power they tell you you're a sinner, and even if you live the life of a saint, they've got you with original sin, a sin you committed by being born! It's all about things some people crave, power. And control. The confessional is a kind of 'mini-inquisition' in which they can keep tabs on the faithful. After all, they used to burn dissenters or heretics at the stake. For asking too many questions or having doubts about the Catholic dogma. The declaration of Papal infallibility is also to cement absolute power. The fact that the Pope financed the Spanish Armada which was designed to bring the reformed English back into the Catholic fold tells you organized religions are just political movements writ large about power conquest and control. They're obliquely saying, "we can't show you God, so just worship us". The Catholic Church should be wound up, let it return to its Latinate roots if they want it. Keep it out of Northern Europe.
Why should British or Irish (or Dutch, Scandinavian, German, Polish, etc.) children be more protected than kids from Italy, Spain etc.? Where in France, etc. would you draw the line between kids who should be protected from those that don't need to be, in your view? Which side should Austria be on?
How anyone can continue to be a catholic after knowing about the clerical abuse, the baby trafficking and the magdalene laundries is beyond me.

The parents know what is going on or are they so stupid they don't want to know. They are the ones who should be going to gaol for belonging to such a grubby organisation and putting children in harms way. There isn't any hope gaoling the perpetrators because there is too much money in it for the legal system who are probably just as bad. This sexual holocaust did not start yesterday and it's not going to stop tomorrow. Start gaoling people at the top where the buck stops or close it down.
