To everyone advising how we should have made the floats, we done research prior to this video and came across many Americans who also made it this way - we followed their instructions 😊 There is an American youtuber getting big numbers on his floats and not a single person told him to use ice cream first 👀

    • @pacmon5285
      @pacmon5285 8 днів тому +14

Totally fair. In the end, it's the same. I do put ice cream first, but partly because it's less splashing than dropping ice cream into the liquid.
Edit: Root Beer float is the best float imho. There's also a variety of root beers, so it's possible Yass might like other brands more (but maybe not lol).
Side note: Remember, just because someone is getting a lot of views *does not* mean they're doing something right. Correlation not causation.

To each their own, for sure! The reason for ice cream first is the effect the carbonation of the soda has on the ice cream. It gives it almost like a crust.

If you put the ice cream first, you will taste it more and it won’t be floating on top of the drink. I honestly don’t know anyone that doesn’t put the ice cream first. But to each their own.

You gotta add the icecream first and lots of it, then top it off with just a little root beer. Then you eat the ice cream with a spoon.

You basically have to reverse the ratio of soda to ice cream. The ice cream should be saturated by the soda as you eat it with the spoon .Then you drink up the remainder.Put the ice cream in 1st.Also try straight coca cola and the cherry coke.If the root beer tastes like medicine to you,you got robbed as a child. They added to medication to make it taste better. You can change your pallet over time if you keep working on it

    • @bear4muscledfw

Step 1: freeze the glass (an hour)
Step 2: fill frosted glass with 80% vanilla ice cream
Step 3: pour carbonated beverage over the ice cream
Step 4: stir with spoon to mix together
Step 5: enjoy drinking through straw or eating with a spoon

    1. Glass
    2. 4 scoops of ice-cream
    3..then Soda
    4. Just a spoon - no straw!
    5. Stir
    6. Drink a little
    7. Eat some of the ice-cream
    8. Enjoy!

    1. Not enough ice cream
    2. You start it with a spoon and then use a straw. You need to be eating some of the ice cream, not letting it all melt away.

  • @wetmovie2705

Screw all the criticism. I just find it great watching you guys freak out about seeing a float for the first time. They are very popular over here. Most of the commenters are right. The trick is to put the ice cream in first and also have a spoon ready because you end up eating ice cream that taste like the drink you mixed it with. Great video guys keep them coming.

Well, whoever you followed doesn't know how to make a float!!!! I'm 71 years old and used to work at a A&W drive in, when they had car hops and used to take your order at your car and then set up a tray on your half down door window!!! You put 3/4 s ice cream first and then add your liquid. That way the liquid is infused with the ice cream as it starts to float up to the top of the " ice cold MUG" !!!! We also provided long tea spoons and straws so you could mix and infuse the liquid and ice cream more!!! We did mostly Root beer floats back then!!! Enjoy!!!

  • @jimbessett2392
    @jimbessett2392 4 дні тому

Yes as the majority of others are noting, an ice cold glass to start filling it up with ice cream and then adding the soda. Doing it that way , the soda also freezes into the ice cream and you suck the soda out and then eat the ice cream with a spoon. So good that way but the way you guys are doing it you don’t get the flavor of the float.
The root beer float is probably the most popular here in America but I also like Coke float and Orange Crush also.
You should have another try with it but freeze the glass first, then fill the glass with ice cream and then pour in the soda of choice. I think the results will change your mind if you do it this way.

😅I agree with all comments who said ice cream first.
But here's a unique tip it's best to use a non- refrigeratored drink, basically, a warm soda & allow the mixture to sit for some time before consumption.
Not many here in the states knows about the sprite or 7up with sherbet ice cream - trust me, might become one of you all's fav. ..."🍨👍

Although I've never 'done' a lemon-lime soda with sherbert, I've no doubt it's great. Oddly enough, I told my husband this same thing - "7 Up & sherbert", just before I saw your comment. I also said, chocolate ice cream or sherbert would be a better fit for Cream Soda since it's vanilla flavored.

Fats & Yass I believe you two are overthinking a lot. I also believe the reason they're getting on you two more than ppl who lives in America because "First Impressions" makes the difference & most likely they just want you to have an authentic experience. Other than that I don't know what else to tell you besides enjoy yourselves."

I don't know where people get 4 scoops of ice cream from.
In the 50's, 60's and 70's, at restaurants, it was a large scoop or two smaller ones in a large glass of soda.
That way the ice cream "floats".
Edit: yes the ice cream goes first so that the soda melts and mixes it together. Yum!

As someone who worked at an A&W restaurant in the mid 1960s i have to admit i have to scratch my head eveytime I hear a Brit or European compare rootbeer to medicine. Unbelievable. Anyway, I swear A&W should given credit for floats. I'm sure ice-cream parlors did it long before, but rootbeer floats made it a household name. You really need to add a spoon to the process to fully enjoy it. (The only bad thing about A&W was the filter in the bottom of the vat when you had a small young sweaty teen making a fresh batch, but that's a story for another day. )

Orange soda floats are the BOMB!!! Orange-cicles yummmm!! But, honestly you cannot go wrong with a good root beer and ice cream on any day of the week!! Don't fret over people telling you the proper way to make a float, everyone does it differently. I personally don't like the foam, so I pour soda first then add the ice cream so it does not foam up so much. I know others who swear you have to do ice cream first and then pour in order to get a tall foam on top. It is all about what you like! More ice cream and use a spoon. You must mix the soda and ice cream and honestly, eat the ice cream and keep adding to the existing soda......what remains just gets better and better till the end! LOL

The ice cream aside, what brand Root Beers have you had? There's a big difference in flavor between them. A&W, MUG, Barq's, Dad's, IBC, Sprecher.... and the flavor difference can be as drastic as between Coke and Pepsi. A&W and MUG I think have a more creamy flavor. I personally like Dad's or Barq's. Sprecher and IBC are more "fancy" and smaller makers, often found in glass bottles.

Root beer all the way. It's the original. You could also try putting the ice cream in the glass first, then pour the Root Beer over it for a more creamier flavor. The soda should be cold and the ice cream pretty frozen. It'll form kind of an ice coating on the ice cream if you do it right and mix it up some. 😁

The rapper Yung Gravy has a song about Dr Pepper Strawberries and Cream. Also the A&W rootbeer is owned by the same company that owns Taco Bell, Pizza hut, and Long John Silvers.

When Americans suggest something to Brits, it needs to come with instructions how to eat. Use a spoon and get a hefty amount of ice cream then after it melts use your straw.

You’ve gotta try a regular and cherry Pepsi float, and a classic coke/ cherry coke float.
Edit, do you guys have vanilla ice cream that has real vanilla bean in it? It’s gonna elevate your float

Ice cream first then soda. Then eat with spoon and finish with straw

The reason you do the ice cream first is to mix the soda with the ice cream, then you don't have to mix it. Whichever video you watched did it wrong... First, fill the the glass to the top with ice cream, THEN add your pop. That is the appropriate way to do it. At this point, your just drinking the pop and not getting the ice cream float effect....

Shoulds added ice cream first. Whoever said to add pop first is not american. U scoop ice cream, add pop, stick straw straight into the ice cream and drink. The tv show fringe can show you this clear as day if you search for the clip "fringe root beer float".

FYI you need to put the ice cream in first, second you need a half glass of ice cream 🍨

Yes, you need to put ice cream first. Actually, the more contrast the better. You are looking mix flavors, not layering, more vanilla, and cream. Try Fanta flavors, or even, lemon lime soda, it's amazing.
