Those were the days when you could dance on the plastic chairs and sing along at concerts. We had so much fun! The band members included Roger and the roadies as a part of their team. They worked so hard travelling to all those small towns around Australia day after day and then had to go back to scratch to try to get attention overseas.
Just brilliant! I'm so surprised that I have never ever seen this special before! When I was a kid I never appreciated how brilliant Sherbet were. Now, after all these years I can truly appreciate how fantastic they were and what a truly amazing voice Daryl had, and still has I add.
The Sherbets became The Sherbs later on and they had two big hits in the U.S. -- "No Turning Back" and "We Ride Tonight." Their best songs were on their 1982 album "Defying Gravity" which included "We Ride Tonight." My father, who was a caterer, brought it home from work in 1982 and I still love it today! They had another great song "I'm Ok" which was driven by a great base line. Daryl is one of the greatest lead singers ever! The Sherbs were very under rated.
....."I Have The Skill" did VERY well on album rock as WELL, actually - and equalled "Howzat!"s low-60's Billboard Hot 100 showing, in Spring '81 (with "No Turning Back" its follow-up Stateside.....)
At the time, being a young screaming teen, I really didn't appreciate just how good they were. As the years go by and I find myself still listening to their music, I appreciate them more and more. And I will always love Daryl's voice.
How brilliant - I'm 9 again - which is stupid now thinking of that! Grown up learning and appreciating more of their music (obviously) and have made some die hard ex Sherbet peeps the same. We were too young back then - they were ahead of their times in many respects. Glad to say that for now 41 years they still mean the same as when I was 9!! Never pass with my memorabilia even though not sure my kids will appreciate it. They do love Daryl.
I was 6 when I fell in love with Howzat and I got the album for my birthday. It's so funny thinking about it now, I remember the pull out poster thingy and it had a head shot of each band member and they each had a cigarette in their mouth. Anyway I was in 3rd class, and we all had to bring in a record to class. I was very shy back then and a bit embarrassed because everyone else loved ABBA and brought in their ABBA records, so I slipped my Sherbet album underneath all the others. Well to my surprise, one of the boys found the Sherbet album and started questioning who bought it in, he accused all his mates and everyone is looking around and eventually I admitted it was mine. Well the silence was unbelievable, and then suddenly I was the coolest kid in the class for a day, and it was great. Oh yeah, and I still have a big crush on Garth....lol!!!
.....why NO singles were released to the American market before "Howzat!" in mid-76, truly BAFFLES me; BOTH "Slipstream" and "Silvery Moon", even "Cassandra" could made at least a DENT airplay-wise and, "Summer Love", "Only One You" are absolute NO-BRAINERS (former, LIKELY Top 10 Stateside HAD they - DESPITE, or maybe BECAUSE of its Floydian refrain) while WHY Daryl had to wait until 1988 to have his FIRST solo hit here, EQUALLY so.....
Still believe Life is a masterpiece album. Great 70s band.
That will always be my fave album ❤
Aussie rock in the 70's was awesome and very under estimated
Alan's drum solo in 'Freedom '! He was the best....and the hottest!

Watching Clive write lyrics on a typewriter is so heartwarming!

You are still a cool kid
omg....i do not remember watching this special....cannot believe that a typewriter was used to help write the songs....a fantastic special
What did you think they used.. a slate board and chalk?. And how exactly does a typewriter "help" write songs??
i like this band.
Superb thanks!!!!
I'm pretty sure that their manager Roger Davis [Davies] was the one who went on to help Tina Turner restart her career in the UK.
Yes! That's right and he manages Pink now, certainly owes it all to Sherbet :-)
Just ...Great ! They're in it !
Fantastic!
Molly without a hat....Rare
They say u never forget your first love and sherbet was mine
The singer should have gone solo with a magnificent singing voice he has & still does.
You do realise what a stupid statement that was aye?
Happy 72nd birthday, Daryl. 11/01/2021
Now I know where Spinal Tap got their ideas from
Why didn't they do a documentary after the Sherbets changed their name to The Sherbs! That's when they made their best music!
