@@RadiantMantra plus pre rendered videos don't scale well to higher resolutions, they're typically rendered at 720p, but that doesn't really matter since the main menu is missing on the MCC which sucks because it would look beautiful in 4k/60, i hope they add it back :c

Matchmaking supports any arbitrary halo game all in one single menu. You can do a Co-op Campaign that includes playlists the span across multiple Halo games. Each OG Halo title had its own Match Making and Campaign Menus. How do you expect them to fit all the Halo games in one of the OG menus. Plus, which OG menu should they go with. Also, the MCC menu supports displaying the player's spartan from all of the Halo games. But each OG menu only supports its own spartan models. So anyone, please, can you actually provide a solution rather than just asking for the og menus. The logistics do not allow for the OG menus to work!
@@NazmusLabs oh i agree, it would be jarring if it switched between all the og menus, the mcc is pretty seamless because the menus are consistent throughout all the games, maybe they could add the background to the existing menus though? i'm not sure tbh, you're probably right though, it might not be possible to get it to work, and honestly after all the updates the menus in mcc look amazing now, 343 did an amazing job
@@stevemc6010 True, but i also understand that OG halo is too easy to load on todays hardware and the load times are negligible. My computer loads levels almost as fast as i click them and my MCC is on a HDD. They would have to artificially slow it to actually get an authentic feel.

Kinda looks like a marine melee animation and Spartan animation together, the arms look stiff like spartan melee, the the weapon sways alot like how a marine hits something.

@@marranin007 Unlikely, CRS-Class was not really a front line ship, it was more of a police cutter and it wasn't present in either Regrets or Truths fleet. They were used after the war by covenant remnants like Jul' Mdama
It would be cool to mod the game and create custom main menu scenery, or possibly even use other maps. Like say, the campaign screen could be MC and the Arbiter surrounded by corpses and destroyed vehicles, or the Chief with a shotgun facing a flood tank in the Cortana level.

Indie game dev here! Fun fact, this is actually how most menu's in games are made, in-engine you'll create a scene just like any other map/ mission, but the camera will be static or on a loop to fly through the scene. This way it's easy to make changes and then just build out the game again. Obviously the reason "fake" objects are used is because the higher detail models don't need to be used in scenes like this, and to save performance so you're not experiencing any hitches or fps drops in a menu.
As far as game Devs go, Bungie were actually really bad. But they were very gifted at being bad. Kinda like those people that ‘Photoshop’ using Paint and Powerpoint. The method is wrong but the result looks the same until you look closer.

That ties into the difficulties that they had in porting the titles from Xbox, 360, & One to PC. It's pure spaghetti code, on top of spaghetti code, on top of poorly-documented spaghetti code. They're not alone, Jagex, Bethesda, & (to a lesser degree) Valve are infamous for doing the same, yet still (usually and inexplicably) producing an enjoyable end product.
Hope Infinite has a moving main menu with lots of details. Reach, 4, 5 all had basically static menus. Although the art for all those menus was still quite good
I believe from an earlier video he uploaded, Halo Reaches menu exists in a 3D space with loads of 2d images layered on top of eachother, I recall there being a toilet hidden in there as well
This is actually really intuitive. It allows load time to decrease significantly since it’s all one rendered scene. Other games at time use separate renders and have to load in each time a screen is switched.
I love these kind of videos coming out years after these games have released because it brings interesting new insights into how these parts of games are made. I like to think that if one were to investigate these thoroughly, they could paint a picture of how developers like Bungie really made the most out of the resources they had at the time and still managed to create such incredibly memorable backdrops and details that you look back on and know vividly.
Didn't know what to expect when I clicked this, and literally the last thing I expected you just glossed over entirely. I've been playing halo for 20 years and this is the first I learned that you can move around in the menu screen
It's amazing how these things all show up in MCC as well. I get that it is a map and it should show up, but it is still hard to believe everything loads in perfectly and you get to see everything from the OG menu in MCC. It is so sick.

Wow I had no idea everything 3D in the main menu was in the same map! For some reason I always assumed that they were all different smaller maps being loaded in on command. Makes sense though, since loading a map like that from scratch every time would probably take too long. Really cool video

GENERAL!!! I HAVE A VIDEO IDEA!!! Go into halo 2 and load up the first mission you play as the arbiter on coop, and take a look at arbiter when he equips his sword. There are atleast 4 unique animations for him equipping his sword- sometimes he roars, or does a cool 2 handed animation, etc. I noticed while playing coop and can’t find anything about it online!!! People MUST know!!!
Gotta say, It's definitely not the most famous main menu in all of gaming. That honor goes to Super Mario World on the SNES, or maybe The Legend of Zela: Ocarina of Time on the N64. In fact, I'm not 100% certain, but I think they're the two most important predecessors to the moody world building Halo 3 main menu style. I don't think Bungie was directly copying them or anything crazy like that, but that style was established by these games as the OG in 2D and very light hearted, and then the first 3D adaptation with a more dramatic tone. Halo 3 went the same way as Ocarina of Time in this regard. 3D and very dramatic.
I remember when I was really young (4 or 5) I would play halo 3 but didn't know how to operate the main menu. this is, in the main menu sequence, at some point after a while, it points up at the covenant ship and I was terrified of it. when ever I was on the menu, I would scream for my brother to come put me in a game and I would cry if he didn't cause I was that scared.

I'm pretty sure the OG Halo: CE main menu was something similar to this. Using Halo Map Tools, you can open up the "ui.map" file and see the same "halo" vehicle used in the level Pillar of Autumn (yes the Halo ring is a vehicle; though I'm not entirely sure why, my guess is that it has something to do with making it spin perhaps?). Seeing as that is one of the only things in that particular "level", and seeing as how the main thing you see in the main menu (other than the background) is the Halo ring, this leads me to believe the OG Halo: CE main menu is also an actual level instead of a pre-rendered sequence.
i'm pretty sure that melee animation is the magnum 3rd person melee animation from ce, could be some other weapon but definitely looks like a ce animation
Attempt #15 ish? What happens when invincible infection forms attack shielded targets? Can they hurt passengers or scarabs? Can infection forms latch onto enemy combat forms and switch their side? Can you flip the ai out of an enforcer to drive it?
I know this is years old now but I'm fairly certain those melee animations for the Chief are his halo 1 Sniper or Shotgun melee animations. I don't think he melees like that in any other halo with any other weapon.
Can you imagine being in the Custom games menu and suddenly general heed comes, bumps and melee the bipeds and take the flag while you are trying to set up your game?
TBH I skipped over the 360 era so I remember the CE menu more fondly than any (even more than the H2 menu to be completely honest.) That said I used to think the H3 menu was kind of boring but this vid actually made me feel completely otherwise. It's really quite cleverly designed.

That flag can be found in the tag files under 'weap' and can be added into forge to be used as a weapon

I'm pretty sure the OG Halo: CE main menu was something similar to this. Using Halo Map Tools, you can open up the "ui.map" file and see the same "halo" vehicle used in the level Pillar of Autumn (yes the Halo ring is a vehicle; though I'm not entirely sure why, my guess is that it has something to do with making it spin perhaps?). Seeing as that is one of the only things in that particular "level", and seeing as how the main thing you see in the main menu (other than the background) is the Halo ring, this leads me to believe the OG Halo: CE main menu is also an actual level instead of a pre-rendered sequence.
It's always interesting to see developers doing tricks like this that most of us don't realize :)

i'm pretty sure that melee animation is the magnum 3rd person melee animation from ce, could be some other weapon but definitely looks like a ce animation

What happens when invincible infection forms attack shielded targets? Can they hurt passengers or scarabs? Can infection forms latch onto enemy combat forms and switch their side? Can you flip the ai out of an enforcer to drive it?

I know this is years old now but I'm fairly certain those melee animations for the Chief are his halo 1 Sniper or Shotgun melee animations. I don't think he melees like that in any other halo with any other weapon.
I gotta ask.. Can the glassing beam on the main menu kill you? Or is it just a lighting/ particle effect?
Can you imagine being in the Custom games menu and suddenly general heed comes, bumps and melee the bipeds and take the flag while you are trying to set up your game?

TBH I skipped over the 360 era so I remember the CE menu more fondly than any (even more than the H2 menu to be completely honest.) That said I used to think the H3 menu was kind of boring but this vid actually made me feel completely otherwise. It's really quite cleverly designed.
You know, when we get MCC modding, this would be a really cool multiplayer map for Forge, if you fix it up and improve the textures
