    Great video. I had this model, got in 84. Only difference was that it had dual brakes. My buddy found one for his son about 6 years ago in almost NOS condition on Craigslist for 125!!!

      If your buddy still has it, that $125 investment has beat the inflation by a good bit.

    I just rebuilt my 85-87 Schwinn Predator Eliminator. I remember paying $50.00 bucks for the frame, handlebar, and pretty much just missing the rims and brakes, bought some vintage Odyssey green brakes, Araya rims, and it looks spectacular.

    Definitely do great work on theses bikes Jason..I've never try the citric acid myself. But i have used oxyacid..had some good luck with it..anything from the 80's holds a good premium these days. Those days for picking these up nothing are over or far in-between.

    Very cool it's funny u mentioned childhood bike! I still have my 1984 predator from my childhood I was 10 years old it was a birthday present. I'd love to send you pictures if you have a email address or somewhere I can send you pictures. I was a kid that didn't have much my schwinn predator was my baby as it was my only new bike I ever had! I kept it in near mint condition only thing was ever changed was the tires and grips. Even still has original brake cables on it.

    I have found SOS pads work exceptionally well when cleaning the rust off chrome/ steal... Even brings back luster on Aluminum pieces... Tho you can't get in the tubes

    • @alloutbikes
      @alloutbikes  Рік тому +1

      They do work really well. If your not careful it will make the chrome a little dull. The SOS definitely worked faster then the #0000 steel wool but I think the #0000 leaves a little more shine. There are all different ways to get the job done as long as it gets done well. Thanks Michael! Do you have any oldschool BMX? Stay well👍

    Mine is also dated 83 but it's the 10th month of 1983 so technically it's a 1984. Mine is identical to this bike.

    what liquid did you use on wiping the frame at 20:31 ?a top coat?

    • @alloutbikes
      @alloutbikes  Рік тому

      Tri-Flow it's a Teflon based wet lubricant that protects the metal from rusting. Gun oil is the same thing.

    I have a similarish year schwinn (manta ray?) that is in worse shape since it's been semi buried for about 25 years.. it's mostly disassembled but the seat post is mangled inside the tube and I haven't had much luck hacksawing and banging on it via a metal rod

    • @alloutbikes
      @alloutbikes  Рік тому

      You may have to take it up a notch. Weld a rod in as much as you can inside the old post(about 2 to 3 inches if you can) and use a torch on the seat tube( frame) and carefully heat the frame up(not red hot). Be careful. If you heat the frame up to quickly or to hot you will damage the frame. This is a last resort. There is no going back. Make sure you have tried everything else. Goodluck!👍

    • @RagedContinuum
      @RagedContinuum Рік тому

      @@alloutbikes I was thinking of buying a step-up drill bit and a 1/4" shank extension in an attempt to ream it out.. the inside diameter of the post is round so perhaps I can avoid removing much material from the frame.. as you mention, the heat option seems risky since it may ruin the tempering so I'm hesitant

    • @alloutbikes
      @alloutbikes  Рік тому

      @@RagedContinuum I hope the seatpost is aluminum. If the post is steel you'll have trouble not cutting into the frame. You can do it. Take your time. Goodluck!

    My parents saved up for my birthday and Christmas to be able to give me one big gift. They gave me a pearl light blue Schwinn Predator Freeform EX 1986 with the white skyway mags, cobra grips. Someone stole it the very next week. I was a CRUSHED 11 year old girl. Broke into my basement garage and stole it. Now I have a 2008 Intense Pro XL in Zebra paint with all SINZ components. I know the mini of my Zebra bike is very rare and frame without forks is bringing 1,500 bucks on ebay and I only seen 1. I have never seen a pro xl for sale. I also have a Mosh Method 2 Jr from 2002 and would trade both of them without hesitation for restored 86' Schwiin Predator just like my old one.
