      Not just C-130s. IAF has around 100 An-32 and are now looking to replace it with 80 new Medium Transport Aircraft. Prime contenders are Brazil's C-390, Japan's C-2 and Europe's A-400M.

      The C-390's refueling capability comes from being able to strap two pods onto wing stations; all existing military transports can do the exact same thing. Lockheed and Boeing (for the C-17) have gone further and developed refueling modules that can be installed in the cargo hold, which allows much greater capacity as a tanker.

    26 thousand kilograms of payload capacity just blows my mind. It looks so compact and nimble, yet it carries almost the entire MTOW of a B-17.

    I hope it does well. It certainly looks right! Hopefully smaller airforces who don't need the larger A400M or C17 will take it plus larger airforces might take it in addition to the larger and more expensive transports. Whether the US would take this "foreign" aircraft is an interesting point, especially as the C130 is so well established and battle proven. Just a few thoughts ...

    I saw one of these doing a firefighting mission in my city here in Brazil.
    It is one of the most impressive planes I have ever seen, the performance is very high, it was extremely efficient in fighting fires.
    I was impressed to a surreal level.

      @@MarceloTrindade1only the 175-E2 isn’t flying in the US because of the scope clauses. 190-E2, 195-E2 and the girt version of the E-175 are a success there. The United States is the biggest market for the Embraer planes, especially for the ERJ-145 and the E-175

      The only competitor of this is c-130.though the hercules is more suited to some tasks than kc-390.the only ones in the medium freighter market is kawasaki c-2 and a400m.

      @@frankyst3537 Indian Air Force is still looking at all of them for its Multirole Transport Aircraft program to replace around a 100 An-32 planes. So you can't really say that they won't compete for orders.

      ​@@frankyst3537both C-2 and a400m are medium freighter.they can both land and takeoff from semi prepared runway and snow.but the a400m being turboprop is better suited for semi prepared runway operation than c2 and kc390.both the c2 and a400m can carry larger and heavier cargo than kc390.the only advantage of kc390 is that it is cheaper and msny airforces don't require such high loading capacity higher than this.

      There’s only two countries currently operating the aircraft. Brazil and Portugal.
      The Hungary one was delivered, but its crew is currently in Brazil for training.

      Yes, Austria ordered 4, the Czech Republic ordered 2, and the aircraft won the tender for the type in South Korea, not to mention other countries that have already had interest such as Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Sweden and other countries such as South Africa South, Italy, United Arab Emirates and Poland

    Turboprop still have advantage over fanjet on hot and high, short take off and landing, and FOD ( if the prop gets damaged you just replace the prop, not the whole engine )..... The turbo-pro has the advantage that the prop pushes air over the wings even when aircraft not moving, and this gives a much shorter take-off run. The airflow over the wings in flight can also be varied in flight, and can be independent of airspeed. Slower landing speed of a turbo prop another advantage.

      US military will not consider the Brazilian C-390 as they have hundreds of operational legacy C-130 Hercules as well as the newer C-130J Super Hercules. There's also the bigger C-17 Globemaster and C-5 Galaxy.

      @marcosbastos8634 USAF has been using converted air liners since the 60's as their C-130s cannot refuel USAF aircrafts that uses flying boom system.
      US Navy and USMC on the other hand continues to rely on KC-130s as its main tanker aircraft.
      Guess what other modern tanker aircraft lacks the flying boom system? The KC-390.

      @@AshMundo Indian Armed Forces require around 65 C-295 and 80 C-390.
      They also required 25 C-17 but the Muricans shut the C-17 factory when India had only got 11. Because our Ministry of Defence was slow is placing the order.
      These three form the bulk of Indian transport fleet in the light, medium and heavy categories respectively.

      The economics generally suck. They are far too heavy for commercial use.
      Lightening the structure would necessitate a recertification effort. And all that for just a handful of extra airframes.

      @@marcg1686 Very true, also the military aircraft in many aspects are seldom built/configured as per FAA/NTSB/ICAO/EASA regs e.g. engine takeoff and landing noise limitations on civil airports as they are designed more specifically for military bases and purpose of cargo which is a lot heavier and spec made than civilian cargo. Also the fuel burn is relatively higher to achieve the cost index for a nation funded military than an investor group funded air cargo operator.

      Embraer made it like that, using civilian engines to make it easier and cheaper to maintain, considering there are a lotta MRO for these engines. It’s what every operator wants to hear.

      A400 is a waaay expensive than C-390 or C-130J and have some problems that’s not solved yet. And the AN-178… well, Antonov doesn’t even exist anymore lmao

    The wing and engine position on this is strange. Normally you'd have the wing and engines near the center of the cargo compartment so at full load, your CG isn't shifted out of limits. I'm honestly confused how they maintain proper balance loaded vs empty unless they have serious limits on cargo weight in the rear cargo area.
    Edit: The diagram at 1:17 was a bit misleading. The MAC is at the center of the actual cargo area, as it should be.

      @@jadsoncabral7021 No, I was confused because the Mean Aerodynamic chord should be near the center of the cargo compartment so a full load doesn't cause an unacceptable Center of Gravity change. The diagram had non-cargo areas highlighted near the tail.

      @@raideurng2508 I don't know much about engineering, but from what I noticed in aircraft with "T tail" the aircraft do not follow this same premise.
      Note that in models with a high wing (An -178, Il -76 or C -17, etc.) the wing is slightly forward.
      For low-wing models (Il-62, 727, Fokker 100 and etc), it's just the opposite! They are a little behind.
      We also can't forget that Millenium was once designed to use "Fly-by-Wire" technology.
