That Emco is pretty nice though. I learned to machine on a maximat v13.

Howdy, you have very nice videos! I love how you have built the cabinet for the same lathe.
I have a chinese lathe which seems to be very close copy to this EMCO. The final fit and finish quality was terrible and I Had to do corrections on the spindle shaft (back side bearing had press fit where it had to have lighter sliding fit for preload adjustment). I’ve scraped the table and the saddle (got about 600% increase in MRR) and now I’m considering to do some work on the head stock. The problem with the head stock is - it has very tin casting on the sides where spindle bearings mount. I am fearing that this is adding springiness to the system and I’m considering to remove the gearbox (yes, cnc would be the only option then) and pour concrete inside to stiffen up the bearing surfaces…
Could you do me a favor and measure how thick are the side walls where your bearings are mounted? I’m interested to find the thinnest measurement on the wall. Thank you!

Eh-er-I know they say not to wear gloves around a metal lathe, but technically shouldn’t you have used a finger condom??? Wait-is this how mini-lathes are made? “Papa EMCO”?
