There used to be an automated UA-cam-message in the copyright section below the video description claiming the copyrights for Nostalgia. I don´t know why this has gone now. I actually didn´t intent to draw too much attention to the video as my idea was to create an "imaginary artefact" of a song that doesn´t exist in a style that was similar to what both artists were doing at the time. I was quite surprised how well the movie lends itself to the flow of the song, especially the final scene. Both artists had sleeves and videos made by 23 Envelope whose whole aesthetic was basically lifted from Tarkovsky movies. This was the look I was going for.

I had whole videos globally blocked or chunks edited out as soon as their algorithm watch dogs sniffed out claimed material. That´s either by image/sound detection or description. So it´s a tightrope between "giving credit" and "no one can watch your video". My videos are usually very niché and get around 50 clicks. So I know my "clientele" gets my referrences. I never expected this one to get several thousand views and I hope it will stay up so that more people can enjoy it (or get mad at me for "ruining art"). Nobody, can be more ruthless and even cruel, than remixing songs for other Cocteau Twins fans - That's a fact. However, I've been a steadfast Cocteau Twins "Super-fan" for over 40+ year's and an unofficial band historian, a sort of collector, of, stories and memories. I stumbled across Stella's work, but I wasn't about to "Drink the Kool-Aid" as they say; but, Stella decided to try again and linked me to some other mixes. Soon, this grouchy nonbeliever began to literally cry. I mean cry, like when you'd open up the wrapper off any new Cocteau Twins album release; then, play it over again and again. Stella's got that special ear, like Robin Guthrie has got to seamlessly blend and completely recreate "Ethereal Soundscapes in Sonic Architecture" - Yeah, that's a mouthful, alright... !!! However, I've never heard anyone do, what Stella's done. Go place this on pause, grab a glass of wine, and then take your time to listen to what Stella's got for you. If you cry, it's alright - Cry .....!!!

The forum was put to rest a couple of years after Leesa Beales passed in 2010 (the forum around 2012-2013), we were all friends on FB and as a group decided to let it go but sorely missed. It has been fully backed up and can be resurrected at any time. It was Leesa's forum and just wasn't the same after she died, though the annual Cocteaufest still lives on thanks to a number of the old forum members. I hosted the last one that Leesa attended at my cottage in Sept 2009 as we lived in the same city and it was easier for her to get to, and she was not fully well at the time. I would love to hear more about the movie, I am an editor as well and I don't remember her mentioning it, but to be fair Leesa and I talked about a lot of stuff that I can't exactly recall so many years later. Sorry to hear about Simon, I am friends on FB with him and have had a couple of late night PM's with him that always amaze me in how happy he is to chat with people. He is the Original 'nicest guy' in rock. Back then "The Ossify Paradox" was a company name, which I morphed and I adapted it, just for the forum into the "ParadoxOssify". Sorry, for Americanizing Leesa's name; I know, it's a really bad habit that we American's do unwittingly onto others'. I use to be apart of the original group, who made a collective effort to unravel the Cocteaux' lyrics, going back to the early thru the mid 90's; which, ruffled some feathers in the community, but it was apart of my own little Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) thing I had to do. It took me and 12 other's years to accomplish that herculean task, not to mention the debates. After we were done, we decided we had worked so long and hard that we kept everything amongst ourselves. To be honest I, like many, gave up on a Liz solo album more than a decade ago, despite her release of 'Moses', which I actually use one of the versions as the music for my editing reel. I am from Toronto, which is why I had contact personally with Leesa, also she would get really pissed if her first name was pronounced or spelled differently, so no worries on your part, but I had been taught early on not to fuck with that one rule., :) I don't consider myself a Superfan, I was lucky when I was 15 (1983) in Boarding school to have a friend there from England who loved the 23 Envelops covers of their albums and my best friend and I went beyond the beautiful covers and loved the music immediately and do to this day. On a side note I was shocked and honoured when Vaughan Oliver (RIP) asked to be my FB friend out of the blue many years ago. I accepted, of course, but the only thing I can figure as why he did it is because I was a friend of Simon on FB. No other made sense. :) The forum Mmmendor created came directly from the one you belonged to. I was not part of that one at all, but many of the forum I joined were. I have had the pleasure of meeting, in person, a good number of people from both forums and all have been interesting and amazing people. Thanks for your comment. But I can assure you that the two songs are in perfect harmony. I guess what you perceive as dissonance is the final chord of From The Flagstones which I looped throughout the mix. I was always totally obsessed with this sound, that´s why I wanted to base the mix around it.
Dont get the inteligible part. Only a pair of albums by CT have glossoalia lyrics. In fact, Milk and Kisses has very inteligeble lyrics like Rilkean Heart.... But i would loke to have a Sylvian/Fripp/Fraser colab... it would be EPIC
Do they suffer from inflated ego syndrome? I have never heard theat they were particularly "difficult to work with". According to Cocteau Twin Simon Raymonde, Liz would get some Fish & Chips while the guys did the music and then she would come in, sing her parts and be done with it. Don´t know about Sylvian, though. Does he even like Fish & Chips? ;)
Two great songs but sorry, for me, this doesn’t work. I remember trying to do similar things using fruity loops 20 odd years ago and whilst momentarily satisfying, they felt creatively lacking.
That´s the thing with mash-ups: They can be a (fun) gimmick or at best merge two unrelated songs into a new one. If it works it´s alchemy and magic! Of course the recepetion to a mash-up is always extremely personal and relies on your attachment to one or both songs. It´s also a question of ones disposition to allow established reactions to a certain song be swept away.
I'm just happy to see more fans of both David Sylvian/Japan and Elizabeth Fraser/Cocteau Twins. Two of my favorite bands ever.

Do they suffer from inflated ego syndrome? I have never heard theat they were particularly "difficult to work with". According to Cocteau Twin Simon Raymonde, Liz would get some Fish & Chips while the guys did the music and then she would come in, sing her parts and be done with it.
Don´t know about Sylvian, though. Does he even like Fish & Chips? ;)
It's like I can't decide who to listen too? Sylvian or Cocteau Twins? The two songs are very different and so the end result imho is jarring.

Two great songs but sorry, for me, this doesn’t work. I remember trying to do similar things using fruity loops 20 odd years ago and whilst momentarily satisfying, they felt creatively lacking.
That´s the thing with mash-ups: They can be a (fun) gimmick or at best merge two unrelated songs into a new one. If it works it´s alchemy and magic! Of course the recepetion to a mash-up is always extremely personal and relies on your attachment to one or both songs. It´s also a question of ones disposition to allow established reactions to a certain song be swept away.
