I only watched the Eileen part of the video as I haven’t read Lapvona yet, but top reviewing as ever 👏
Also *highly* vibing with the hat/wall matching combo.

Cheers Ben! The aim is to (eventually) completely blend into the back ground so I’m just a floating head 😂

@@rororeads I'm imaging you just full-on becoming one of those animated Memojis 😂

Lapvona and My Year of Rest and Relaxation have the best cover art (in case you like that sort of thing). I picked Lapvona because the cover was so enigmatic and I was not disappointed.

I found Lapvona funny too. I loved the gothic nature of it and how it revelled in it, I thought it was great. Eileen was my first Moshfegh and I loved it too except for the, as you mentioned, slightly rushed ending.

Finally, someone who also likes the quirky humor in her books. I like My year of Rest and Relaxation and Death in Her Hands. And I especially like her not-always-lovable female characters. But my favorite is McGlue. Although I have to admit, there's really nothing to laugh about. One of the darkest books I have ever read.

this definitely makes me want to read both of Moshfegh's novels you reviewed. I was already pretty interested in Eileen but I'd heard very mixed things about Lapvona. I did really enjoy My year... so that's probably a good sign!

I haven’t tried Moshfegh - just assumed I wouldn’t like her style. But you do make Eileen sound intriguing. I think I’ll give it a go. Thanks!

I've only read Lapvona and while it was funny and intriguing in places I found the characters unlikable and as a result I found it a bit of a slog. Maybe I'm a plebe but I could have really used a bit of traditional fantasy action to break up the medieval melancholy misery.
