It really does give a very wrong idea to the young viewers dude..
I watched it when i was 12 or something.. it felt very bizarre then too..
Log khud ka dimag use kar ke dhang se sahi galat ka farak na samajh paaye toh aisi cheeze dekh dekh ke saare aisi hi cheeze expect karenge!
Appropriate consequences are indeed what Indian law lacks!
I am just scared for people who still don't know the adverse effects of negative content consumption. UA-cam trending page videos glorifying Eve teasing in the name of ' pyaar ' is just one example in the vast sea.
Same. And pls review MEHNDI movie too. Which came at the same time i think
@Adrita Saha true in my teen years she used to be my fav actress.. I think still she is a little bit.
@@TheQuarterTicketShow now please review Mehandi by rani mukherji as well
Can you please do a review Bro - This will be hilarious breakdown for you - such a twisted movie! @yogi baba
Rape wasn't treated as an assault on a woman which would have physical and psychological repercussions. It was treated just like consensual sex. The only thing they thought was wrong with rape was that their daughter had sex and was thus impure now. Even now, there are people who still believe that. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️God, i hate it here.
And term "ijjat lut gayi". The girl who is the victim, uski ijjat kaise chali jati hai. The person who raped, uski ijjat jani chaiye.
Well said 👏
@@onlineclassesnepal F*cking EXACTLY 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Agree with you totally. Just imagine how these movies changed mindsets of so many people giving such wrong infos about a rape victim. No person in general can trust and respect their abusers and it's not possible to even forgive them. The movie had literally boosted such men's ego who'd thought abusing their partners or even random strangers on the street is okay. Teasing, acid attacks are just ways of getting the girls in their house as their wives. No they aren't fools but brainwashed. These men still exist and unfortunately these types of movies are still producing in India which is a shame.
another mentality it tapped into was...'' if i rape her, she''s bound to get married to me'' ... so, evidently men in order to control a woman would find this a great way to ''make her marry them''.
This movie is an example of "Indian feminism", which Indian men approve of, obviously. An Indian woman who is badass about choosing exploitation on her own, and thrives in it, is the bravado most Indian men admire.
So many wrong levels
Liberal feminism is also what men approve of because the sex work culture, porn positivity etc etc makes them happy. Only radical feminism is the solution to patriarchy. 😌😌
This trope of Indian woman being the epitome of virtue with their noble suffering and self-sacrifice was glorified in several Hindi movies of the 50s and 60s. From the 70s things gradually started changing with actresses like Smita Patil and Shabana Azmi playing strong characters. Even with the advent of modernised and independent female characters in mainstream Hindi cinema, this trope of deifying the virtuous woman somehow remained a perennial favourite of filmmakers and the audience.
@@abhijeetsharma2183 absolutely … this seemed like the safe space for the patriarchal people… who deep inside feel for the woman… so they make her “bold” breaking every rule in the book in order to uphold the patriarchy … at least she looks like the “rebel” that’s all feminist-y
@@abhijeetsharma2183 It still exists in TV series unfortunately 😭
This movie should have been called "This is NOT how you do enemies to lovers!"

@@RojaJaneman so you basically countered your own point, as your example was something specific to a culture. Make it make sense. You were the one conflating the two, no one else.

I can't even think how much toxicity this movie shows.🤯
They literally converted an assult case into relationship.
Great explanation btw👏
Thanks
There were more sensible progressive woman characters in movies in 50s and 60s rather than late 80s and 90s..
Nargis, Nutan, aasha parekh, vaheeda, madhubala played way better and strong characters than all 90s actresses..
How writers became regressive towards woman after 30-40 years.. normally it should have been progressive as per new generation..
No they decided to evolve backwards
That might be a possibility....maybe his regressive ideologies got into way. @@RojaJaneman
During 50s - 60s, most of the audience were from elite educated class of society but as cinema and standards of living grew, movies could now be accessible to working class and general population. The massive shift in audience changed the content of movies which confirmed the existing beliefs of the audience. Middle class values of how a woman should be like and what progress and good life for women means became part of movies in the 80s - 90s and even today. That's where angry young men trope also rose. Sadly, general people just saw women's worth in housework, marriage, kids, husband, etc. and their notions of women were quite problematic. This hapenned with television too. TV shows from 90s were more progressive and better made overall but as YV became available in middle class people's life, the content shifted more towards what they saw life as. Since mjority of viewers were women, it showcased typical mother in law, household, childcare stories as they themslves saw their worth in just that.
Well it might be the case that you have not watched parallel cinema 😅😅
There are many old Indian films where rape was glorified like victim getting married to her rapist and the hero giving "jism ki garmi" to save the heroine from cold 🤡
Wow the audacity
I've seen that movie starring Sharmila Tagore.. can't recall the name

Rani was 16 when she did this movie. I cannot fathom what she went through while filming. She’s not the first but I hope she was the last in that trend of very young female actors making a debut.
Careers amirite?
Does she look 16????
@@jamimazada7428 does it matter if she looked 16? She was 16. Physically and mentally.
Sadly the trend didn't end with her. As far as I recall Sneha Ullal who made her debut in 2004 with the movie Lucky was just 17 years old.I get it the character she played was supposed to be young but the fact that she was paired with a 40 year old Salman Khan who is more than double her age is plain disturbing to me.
@Adrita Saha There are too many in the likes of this foot-in-mouth couple. I had Sneha off the top of my head. Bollywood always had this hideous obsession with pairing grown men with minors. Super disturbing.
mala giving major snow white vibes like 😭😭talks to nature and kids, loves the poor, dreams of getting married and sadly got sexually assaulted
And they had the audacity of selling it like ' honi ko kaun taal sakta hai'
So this was not just in Hindi movies. Being from the South, I've watched many movies where a "panchayat" takes the decision to force the rapist to marry the victim and the villagers hail such decision. And the logic they gave was that the guy who ruined her life will have to make amends by marrying and supporting her for life. I mean, that's the stupidest thing! We have a long way to go, however I'm happy that we're moving away from such regressive mindset.
We do have a long way to go
Great review! I was single digit years old when I saw this movie and even at that time, I understood that the main "hero" is actually a villain who needs to be in jail. Glorifying rape is something that Bollywood does a lot, and it's so problematic because visual media influences how people behave irl to a great extent.
That can be a separate video on its own!
Exactly

My two cents on Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat: Shadaab Khan's character was the villain. He was the rapist after all. But the way the movie tries to "reform" or rather whitewash his character felt problematic to me. The message of the movie is if you are a guy and you want to marry a girl but are rejected then just rape her. The judicial system will get you married to the girl.
Two similar movies, that I am aware of, dealt with similar themes. In both Benam Badsha (1991) and Mera Naseeb (1989), the rape victim tries to marry her own rapist. Whether it is to reform them or whether the society ditches them, somehow your own violator becomes your last resort.
Cinema often preaches the wrong things in the garb of being progressive. Cinema is an extension of our own social reality. We behave in a manner, that we have seen and experienced in our environment as an accepted behaviour.
Usually, I don't post such long comments but Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat is a special case. It is one of those pseudo-feministic work of art that is self-defeating. However, I am in a way indebted to the movie because I had watched the movie when I was 7 or 8. And it was one of the most disturbing rape scene I had ever watched. It impacted me so much that any form of violence against women made it completely unacceptable to me. It showed me how vicious rape could be. And it is not about lust but a misguided display of imbalance of power through violence.
Oh my goodness I did not watch this movie yet but your analysis thought process is simply superb there is a telugu movie pellicheskundam in which the hero gives shelterto woman who is a rape victom and shunned by her own parents he gives her miral support he delivers best dialogues educating the society. That it is not a woman fault to get raped and also in the climax when the goonda who turned up to marry the heroine the hero stoped it and will tell to everyone if rapists only get to marry the rape victims in future every man will rape every woman to get married to her by carrying mangalsutra in his hand .In the end the hero married the heroine
I loved it when you said, "Violence in any form to anu gender is unacceptable." Much appreciable. Like it's not just about the women, but about each and every person regardless of their gender. ✨
Yep. The links is in the description contain a helpline link for men too.
Fun Fact: A song in this movie got Rani the role of Tina in ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’. Aditya Chopra and Shahrukh Khan noticed her in a trailer and recommended her named to Karan Johar.
(I thought I’d add a little lightness in the comments due to it being a heavy topic)
@Adrita Saha SRK and Aditya Chopra.

My mom once saw this movie when we were exploring movie catalog and although she is of the sanskari bhau wins over others and movie like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai even she said: "kbahi yeh chutiya movie mat dekhna". and yes she did use the c word.

@@TheQuarterTicketShow to be fair I wrote this at the start of the review and now I'm appalled too
My grandmother lived in village before her marriage and she tells us it was pretty normal for men to beat their wives and was considered acceptable at that time because it means they have their wives under their control. We as a society haven't progressed very far so regarding women rights that's why these regressive things are reflected in our films.
Or maybe it's like a never ending loop.
It is still preety normal

I hate concept of Bollywood about having guy and girl together despite toxic relationship or pati Parmeshwar concept is so annoying and disgusting.
You don't have to respect damn husband just because he is husband.
Yeaaah that's the thing... Compromise over peace.
KKHH had just come out and I thought it would be a cute movie, boy was I wrong. I didn't know what rape was at age 10 and still, the whole vibe of the movie was uncomfortable. It made me think that if I was a "bad wife" my in-laws would try to kill me. Everything about this movie is bad; yes, even Rani.

Thank you for reviewing this garbage, god knows how this movie was even approved and I don't know that the actress who went on to make Mardaani had such movies in her repertoire, this is just a notch above all the regressive movies from the 60s to 80s. I have seen ati sanskaari bahus appropriating domestic violence in the name of sanskaar but this was the cocktail of all sorts of social evils being appropriated in one place.
Seems like Rani Mukerji made a lot of progress since then
Even today many judges "suggest" rapists to marry rape victims.
Agreed

Iirc, Rani was just 16 at the time of filming. Poor girl. I don't think she had a say in the script or signing the contract for this movie

Very well thought out and well written script and video. I love that you are using your channel to spread correct information (and sanskaars) to your audience.
Sadly this movie actually depicts what does happen in India in smaller villages. Panchayats have given orders for rape victims to marry their rapists kyonki who will marry girls "jinki izzat he chali gayi hai".

Bro that is abuse that you experienced in your childhood. Please let’s stop normalisation of Indian parents beating the heck out of their children. Punishments could be something else and still not lead to abuse. Violence shouldn’t be used on children just because they’re too young to defend themselves.
I turned out fine. Chill.
@@TheQuarterTicketShow but does not justify your bad example. This is a lame excuse. This is not about just YOU. your logic is like "I went through pitai,I become ok,so going though it is not a big deal." I am not saying you meant that but the defense is like that🙂. I dont know why almost in every reply regarding to your pitai comment, you hardly see the problem with yourself not what people are exactly saying😑. This is not hatred on you or your parents, just valid criticism. Beating up child to teach them conscience is always wrong, for majority children it backfires(maybe not for you). I fully agree with you when you said "violence in any form in any gender is unacceptable"
But will like to add- with any AGE is also unacceptable
There are so many ways to sensitise our young boys and girls.. like healthy sex education and conversations around consent of all forms. Using gentle yet firm parenting. Teaching respectful ways of dealing with each other.
Violence with kids only makes them more susceptible to become violent as adults. Respect breeds respect. 🙏

In short, came out of it, outed the guy.
I was called a you know what,
He was the miss understood one.
What a joke.
I got out of it and built a little life.
While he still sulks in his pathetic hell hole.
So who is the joke now?

Kya gajab fucked up story thi bhai.
Yep
F this society which instead of standing for the victim shames them and then people will ask ki "Ye itne rape cases kyu badh rhe ha". Like instead of blaming girls for everything agar apne apne bete ko sikhaya hota toh aaj ye naubat nhi aati.
Easier said than done. But yahi correct way hai
Literally rapists ki aarti utari jaa rahi hai. It's proven that even capital punishment doesn't deter rapists, but what reduces rape is the rate of conviction. The higher the rate, the lesser the rapes.
Sad time to live in
When I saw this movie this did a number on me. But cheer to you girl for doing this video, finally someone showing the ugly side of our movies. Great video, an awesome script. You go, girl!!
