Hello, i want to ask a question regarding your video. So I have a very basic mtb that comes with 3x7 drive. The question is can I upgrade it to 1x12 drive? Or what aspects do i need to look on? Do I need to chage my wheels? How do i know if the 12 speed cassette will fit between the frame and the wheel? Thank you.
Hi sir,
- 7 speed drive is not compatible for 12 speed, because the freehub body of 7 speed is shorter..
- Shimano HG ( type) start at 8, 9, 10 & 11( Speed) drive are compatible for 12 speed with specific cassette brands (as mentioned in the discription/videos)
- your rear Axle should be at least 135mm.

Hi there. A quick maybe a dumb question? How did you know the measurements of the bb to replace it with that hollow-tech style? I believe I know the answer. ( BCD measure) But how do you measure it?
hi thanks, i have checked my bike BB specs/size is bsa 73mm bottom bracket pretty much compatible for most BB out there, to measure it get a Caliper or any ruler will do..
BB shell width 68mm road bike, 73mm mountain bike, 83mm downhill, 100/120mm fat bike.

Did you check your chainline in order to choose the correct cranckset (standard, boost or super boost)?
Yes, this non-boost, but the non-boost frame does not support boost sizes, so I had to use the standard sizes. However, I did use a crank with a 3mm offset.

Yes sir possible, I assuming your 3x8 is using Standard Shimano HG free hub body (like mine in that video)
Things that you need to change as follow:
1. Group Set
- 12 speed cassette (compatible to HG free hub body 8-10 speed), Rear Derailleur, Shifter & Chainlink
2. Crank Set
- 12 speed chainring min 32T with narrow wide teeth & Crank Arm
3. DUB/GXP Bottom Bracket
( BB to be replaced, I assuming your 3x8 is using the old and heavy Square Taper BB)

I have Cube Aim 2021, planning to put Deore M6100 1x12 on it if it fits. Rear hub is Alloy Light, QR, 6-Bolt. Will it fit? What do you think or do I need to change everything back there :D
Shimano Deore m6100 is using Microspline drivetrain 12 speed, Im not sure what cube aim 2021 is using for drivetrain, you have to check few thing such freehub body of your wheelset, your rear derailleur, shifter and chain must be 12 speed compatible.

hola, para esta actualización de la bicicleta estoy usando frenos mecánicos. Sí, la maneta de freno es diferente, la original era el combo Shimano- Cambio delantero y nivel de freno juntos, así que cambio a una sola maneta de freno. Gracias

thanks, I did not change my HUB, if you're using 8 Speed Shimano freehub body like mine, yes the 12 speed NX eagle cassette (PG1230) 11-50T are 100% compatible, I have missed to press the record that time I was intalling the cassette, anyway i have made separate video for that, you can watch at the link below

Thanks bro, mine is the older version too, yes as long as your drivetrain using 8 - 10 speed HG type you can convert to 11/12 speed using specific cassette type like SRAM NX/SX, sunrace MZ90 and other brands for HG type.

Question-Did you replace the whole crank with chainring to convert from 8S to 12S. I want to do so but still confused what are the replacements i have to make??? please help.
I have changed the whole crank set, from 3x8 chainring to 1x 12 set up.
Check your 12 speed cassette/cog profile if narrow-wide or non-narrow wide, it should be the same profile with the Chainring, Same as your chain.
8s -12s, other things that are required to replace:
1. Shifters for 12 speed
2. Chain for 12 speed (narrrowwide/non-narrowwide?)
If I have 7 speed hub, can I convert it to 12 spd using the stock hubs?
I believed you can't convert using 7 speed Shimano freehub body (shorter)
only 8, 9, 10,& 11 speed Shimano HG freehub body is compatible for 12 speed sram eagle or sunrace cassette.

Hi, I believed Shimano Tx505 Hub is using Shimano HG free hub body, but the 12 Speed Deore M6100 cassette is for SHIMANO MICROSPLINE FREE HUB body, So it will Not Fit.

But what a waste you would have stayed with your 3x8 Unfortunately when changing to 1x12 you will lose maximum speed because you do not have a big chainring, the 3x10 transmissions are much better than the 1x12 because with the 3x10 you can go up very difficult climbs with the small chainring, you can go almost any terrain with the medium chainring and you can go at very high speed with the big chainring on a downhill and the 1x12 since it has a much slim chain it suffers much faster wear

How durable is the sram nx are you pleased with this setup or a shimano slx 12 speed would be better?
NX is roughly equivalent to SLX / Deore. I say roughly, cos I feel it's better quality than Deore, but not quite as good as SLX. XT is, again, roughly equivalent to GX in terms of cost and quality.
The SLX drivetrain is slightly lighter than the NX Eagle, but heavier than the GX Eagle. So, of course this would position the SLX as a more attractive option than NX Eagle since it is slightly lighter.

Hi, the spacer is only required if your BB frame length is 68mm, for my case is 73mm so NO need put the spacer. thanks

Is the frame 135mm spacing?
Yes this bike is the old one 135mm rear axle spacing.. now a days most MTB rear axle is 142mm or 148mm (boost)
What size hub width did this bike have?
this is the standard shimano hub tx505 for 135mm axle.

Yes bro other brand will do as long as support HG Freehub body 12 speed 11-51 cassette type, other brand like Sunrace MZ90, SRAM NX /SX (individual cog spacer are included)

yea, I believed so, Shimano FH-TX505 is using 8/9/10~11 speed HG free hub body, ( including 12 speed, but only for selected cassette brand)

Thanks master, if I'm not mistaken yun 3x9 altus hubs is using Shimano HG Freehub body, but for 12 Speed DEORE is using Shimano Microspline Freehub body, so hindi compatible sa cassette ng 12 speed Deore. but if u want 1x12 groupset na compatible sa altus hubs and option mo ay sa SRAM NX/SX groupset (I'm not promoting, just a suggestion). ride safe master!

thanks master, if you upgrade 3x7 to any speed required adjustment, may 3 bolt/ limit screws na maliit need to adjust, need mo din adjust yun tension ng 8speed RD and 8s Shifter, sometimes need mo remove muna yun tension cable and adjust manually yun 8S RD sa smallest cog then adjust the biggest cog by turning the 3 limit screws at back of the 8s RD habang iniikot mo crank/wheels
make sure na yun smallest cog ay pantay sa upper pulley ng RD same then sa last cog. (left limit screw for moving left to right or vice versa para itapat sa smallest cog, right limit screw para sa biggest cog, yun isa na limit screw naka hiwalay for up down for clearance between RD pulley and cog.

yes from 3×9 to 3x10, just buy the 10 speed cog/cassette but you have to upgrade RD & Shifter as well, your freehub body should be able to upgrade up to 11 Speed

Master, for 7-speed cassettes fit fine on 8- and 9-speed (and most 10-speed, but NOT 11 &12 speed, medyo short ng ilang mm yung 7S compared sa 8s freehub body)
pero pag umalog need ng 4.5 mm spacer onto the freehub body before the cassette.
