I WAS applying for the NLV here in the USA. But nearly every embassy was on strike or had terrible reviews. I hired a lawyer from Cadiz to help with my applications and the embassy and he tried and they wouldn't even answer him, email or call. So I am instead going to Spain on a tourist visa and then studying Spanish for an education visa. Not my first choice because I am retired (young) but I fell in love with Spain so I'm going to make it work. At least with the ED visa. I can work up to 20 hours if I wanted to. I wish you could apply for the NLV inside spain like you can an ED visa. Would be so much easier than depending on the embassies here in the usa.
Yes it’s a sad state of affairs in some of the Spanish embassies over there from what I’ve heard, although we tend only to hear the bad news. One good piece of news for you though, I hear they’ve changed the rules so that people on the student visa can work more than 20 hours now. So that could be a more attractive proposition for you, although you still wouldn’t be able to apply for the NLV from Spain. You could get a job after your studies though and be on a working visa. Depends on whether that’s what you want to do after you’ve retired. Do you have enough of a pension and savings to cover the NLV?
@@youtoospain Yes I make more than the required amount to qualify for the NLV. But, I should learn the language better and I really want to make my forever home in Spain. So whatever stupid hoops I gotta jump through.... I think will be worth it!

Yes indeed. Someone said there’s a British supermarket in Torrox that does it. I’ve yet to confirm it though. Clotted cream too, although that’s full of sugar so I can’t have it.
I like the four wheeled motorbikes that look like cars that you have. France has something similar. An actual car that is speed governed to 50 kph and you can drive without a licence. Usually owned, and the price of them is artificially high, that you can use if you live in the countryside and have been stopped by the Gendarmerie. Notice, I didn't say 'over the limit'. Everyone d&d's here. Even the Gendarmerie. A while ago, a local Deputie got stopped and was asked to blow into a certain device. She said "you first". The cop just got transfered. This is France. No one gets fired here.
Make sure the removals company have the right insurance cover. I brought my guitars in the car with us, but my €6k iMac was on the lorry and I insisted on €10 insurance. If I’d know what state some of the boxes would arrive in I’m not sure what I would have done. There are companies who charge more and pack everything for you and give guarantees.
Actually sweets are more important before winter. That’s the time the body stores fat for winter. In winter, the body is supposed to burn the fat as there are no local fruits available 😉
Good point Bubbly. That’s what the harvest is all about in northern climates. The fruit harvests here in southern Spain are later and into the winter. I think our viewer who was talking about fruit was from North Africa where there’s even less of a winter.
It seems that everyone has very different experiences of the banks. We’ve only just opened our first account so I can’t really judge them yet. I know BBVA have a free online account so I’m going to give them a try for a personal account
Thank you for a very informative video! I lived in Madrid sometime back, and miss Spain a lot. Best wishes from Philadelphia, PA!!!
Best wishes to you too, 08. Nice name!

In France, if you are invited to dinner, it is extremely rude to turn up on time.
15 minutes late is the minimum.
So true about the cream. Fresh cream cannot be had for love nor money.

Laurie Lee, when he walked across Spain before the war, got his mail sent to the post office in the next town he was going to be in.
Italian sockets look like normal European sockets. But they are not. They are smaller, by about 1mm.
That must be a pain when you move from another European country
UK Customs and Excise don't need a warrant to enter your property.
I opened an online bank account. Not a piece of paper involved. Just a gucci terminal in a tabac.

Thanks guys. But nervy now about transporting possessions!
Going to be bringing over a £4K gaming pc, and guitars and want them arriving in one piece!
