- This song (also known as "Church in the Wildwood") has been requested many times, so I thought I would record it to begin 2022. "No place is so dear to my childhood as the little brown church in the vale!" Played in the key of B flat.
"The Little Brown Church" is a historic church located at 2730 Cheyenne Avenue in Nashua, Iowa that was made famous by this song, The Church in the Wildwood. The structure was completed in 1864. However William S. Pitts wrote the song in 1857, when the site of the church was an empty lot.

One of my all time favorites. It was my father's most favorite. He had the recording of Andy Griffith playing his guitar and singing this. And my father had beautiful pitch as he whistled.....which he did often. I remember so clearly hearing my father whistling tunes to himself gently on long quiet car trips. This was one he often " played ". I actually got a tear hearing this. It brought back memories of my dear parents.
