This song is so special to me because it is the first hymn I remember my parents ever sung to me and it's just always had a special place in my heart and makes me happy everytime I hear it ❤
When I first went into ministry in 1992 I loved this song. In 1999 I had the privilege of serving a church in Louisiana; one of the youth pastors not far from our church was the grandson of E.M. Bartlett. Needless to say whenever we have youth events together, this song was sung AT LEAST once. Love this song. I have the privilege of serving as a Hospice chaplain now and use this song regularly.

The wife along with her sons are inside comforting one another it's 2am I'm a security guard at a hospital thanks for being a servant of Jesus Christ.

It is a shame that this sort of thing is disappearing in some churches. Even as a young adult the classics are far better than the music they have. These hymns hit different compared to the ones they have now. I don't believe that it's necessary to modernize the hymns we sing.
