- Today we are dehorning some heifers that didn't get done when they were younger.
Kevin describes what's happening with the Agco Challenger tractor.
Plus, I take advantage of the warm weather and clean out the chicken coop.
Thanks for watching!

Great stuff Ronda, Mackenzie and Kevin👌👍🙏🙂
The people who give you grief about dehorning have not been jabbed by a friendly cow with horns, let alone one with intent to harm you. Great video!
One of the owners at the ranch I work at bought a mini Highland Bull that had horns and that little bull learned how to swing his head and catch you with so we put him out with the big charlegh bulls and the wagyu bulls and he thinks he is a big bull now😂😂
@@haroldwilkerson2026 I won't have anything with horns around, nor my boss. Just to dangerous to have the headgear in any of them. I've been smacked by a Holstein bull, no horns. That's why I am alive now.
You folks have risen to the challenge of working on the Challenger.
First few seconds -- you two look just like sisters. Not kidding.
Some days I wish I was in the shop working with Kevin! Another very enjoyable video thank you Ronda!
Glad to See McKenzie back to Help Kevin wit( the Heifers on the Farm. 👍🙏
Good job with the challenger, everybody wants new , but a little elbow grease , and you can make old new for a lot less ! I've in the middle of summer blew a governor gear , took engine out and had it back on the job in 2 days!
Nice, hope to see the Tractor 🚜 up and running. I remember helping farmers get cows back in they always find a way out .
I love the pictures hanging in the chicken coop. Makes them feel right at home. 👍
Great video nice to see mckenzie back helping Dad, glad to see weather has improved
Been there several times and glad to not have to do it again. My dad almost broke his back between his shoulders many years ago dehorning a Hereford cow. Our ole vet was as slick with dehorning as I ever seen.. glad to see McKenzie back and helping
Rhonda -- What breed of cat is Pinto? She sure is a sweetheart! In the 70's my stepmom raised Hi-Lines for eggs and Cornish Cross for meat. She always had 100 Cornish Cross in production and about the same number of Hi-Lines. It amazed me how hard chicken manure can pack down from a bird that only weighs 5-10 lbs. Under the roost was soft and fluffy but everywhere else was like concrete.
We don't know what breed Pinto is. She came from the barn cats, and all her siblings looked like the parents except for her.
@@acresofclayhomestead -- She might be a Seal Point, especially with those bright blue eyes. She could be a Himilayan or a Siamese too.
I always hated cleaning the chicken coop. The smell of ammonia would take your breath away. We had around 50-75 chickens.
My doesn't have that strong ammonia smell. Thankfully!!
Back in the day. Grand dad was the horn cutter in the community. We have 2 sets 3’ and 4’ handles. Still have both pair and use once in a while. Good job
Good luck with the Challenger hope things go well love you guys and God bless y'all ❤
I have never seen that antique horn clippers. I always used the paste on calves
That’s how we always did it and occasionally still do. We do it a bit closer to the head. They can get pretty mean with those large stubs.
I love parsnips. Most grocery clerks have know idea what they are. I noticed this year they are huge coming out of Michigan.
another great video! What a gift to be able to repair the Challenger! I'll bet it saved you $10,000
We had a tool just like that one for removing horns
Great Video it's good to see McKenzie in again hope to see her and husband in future videos
It maybe the lil chickens new nest, but that's the cow's food and it doesn't want any chicken nasty in it hehehehe
Old equipment but it does the job.
Hello Rhonda and Kevin,
When I first got my skid steer, I put some pieces of old garden hose around any hydraulic hoses that could touch and rub a hole in it.
Love the videos. Keep up the good work, and God bless.
We've done that and may do that to a few hoses on the tractor. 👍
We also had a larger midevil looking dehorner .used on wild herfords from the west.it was a fun job without a squeeze chute.a job that needs to be done.
The snow we received on Friday is well on its way to melting off. Have you ever considered getting and keeping an older gasoline powered tractor around? They're great for the smaller jobs and ease of starting in the winter is a great advantage. Grant and Laura Wilson (Laura Farms) seem to be emulating Kevin lately. They've been purchasing used equipment at auction and refurbishing it for use on their farm. Spring and the rebirth of the land is right around the corner, stay safe, God bless.
Laura and Grant Wilson are the exact example of getting everything handed to them and never having to work For anything! She is a spoiled UA-camr! She wouldn’t Know a long hard day of work if it kicked her in the behind. Grant still has his baby fat, never had to work for anything! If it wasn’t for their grandparents they would have nothing!
Not sure what we would do with a gas tractor. They don't have enough horsepower.
Thanks for another great video always something new god bless y’all
Thanks for alot of variety on this one .have a blessed week!!
For whatever reason all the things and all the different jobs growing up on the farm dehorning was just one thing I never liked.... we never hired it out either. We did it ourselves and man would I find any excuse possible to not be in the barn for that haha. I can remember being in middle school and saying sorry I've got a lot of homework to get done and everyone turned and looked at me like I had three heads because I had 12 solid years of mandatory education where I did not do any homework.😂
🤣 Dehorning isn't fun, no matter how it's done. 😂
It's a horrible job used to do them at a couple of months with the hot iron (de bud) the way shown here would get you a serious fine, it's a vet job with anaesthetic etc.
Good job everyone.
Always good to get ahead of the game with preventive maintenance hated to stop and fix things when you had to get crops done
The guillotine dehorners do a good job, clean cut for sure. I had to get my tractor wiring harness replaced a few years ago, it's nice that Kevin can do the tractor repairs himself. Good to hear your weather is looking better now, good luck for the up and coming planting season. Thanks and have a nice evening.
We had a pair of those Dehorners just like those. Worked great
good to see you two together like this
Lots of interesting stuff today. Thanks for sharing.
Vedere i componenti della famiglia sempre al lavoro con entusiasmo fa bene al cuore il mondo a bisogno di più persone così attive l'agricoltura se non ci fosse si ferma il Mondo complimenti buon lavoro ❤👍💕
The challenger had a vario transmission a couple of seasons ago if I remember correctly so be best to fit a new wiring harness and then you can sell it in good faith to anyone and buy a more reliable product from another tractor manufacturer as it will break down again absolutely guaranteed to happen
Great Job Farmers Great Video👏👏👏👍
Kenzie should realize that parsnips in the store are prized way above what my wife wants to pay. I learned something today. Ronda said that parsnips get sweeter when they are left in the ground over winter. . . . well, in Calgary, they would freeze through entirely. . . . those crimpers sure work well on the horns. It is neat that Kevin found them among some "antiques".
I've had parsnips frozen solid in the winter and dig the in the spring. So tasty!
Non farmers may not truly understand the nature of animal behavior and need for a horn’s removal. They may also be concerned over the animal’s health, but as long as the process isn’t abusive, which the shear isn’t, the animal is not hurt. It’s like cutting toenails. I’ve used burners, cutters, etc. that shear was smooth.
Been around cows and dairy farms all my life 50 + years . While the dehorner is necessary i cant do it just cant
I like the crimper! I have dehorned and that thing looks like it works great! Those parsnips look delicious. Good job on fixing the tractor. Spring is on its way!!
Good vlog guys
Hi Ronda!! Down here in NC IN I've always used third week of February as a break point. USUALLY......if you're past that point the hard cold is either done or short lived when you do get it. Snow, that's another matter, but at least it'll melt, which , on a dairy farm is just more mud. It's just Spring on a dairy farm.
Thanks
That alot of fun
Great content I just love you all greatly and as always God bless each one of you
Looking Beautiful Mackenzie Beautiful cows great work on the Challenger, my late father had 3 1 on a New Holland BR 750 Round baler was beautiful ❤.
Beautiful Vegtables hello from Australia sending love ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Chicken was giving instructions 😂
Great video
Thanks!
Brings back memories
Ask hubby if he took a lot pics of the tracker❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊
No pictures.
Hello,
Talk about having your hands full/Good Luck.
We use an antique dehorner too😂!! They work but dang are they heavy!!!
They are so heavy!
We use dehorning sauv at birth. It's so easy then and seems much more humane.
My go-to method as well.
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Prices on equipment is crazy high so yeah if you can rebuild it then you know what you got and save a buck or two. Mckenzie is funny as ever.
yes agco got poor wires need to compained the compagny !
absoloutly love this channel
Thanks!!
Love your videos Rhonda
Thanks!
Hey I have one of those dehorner like that still use them
I'm pretty sure we still have one of them hanging up in our lower barn by the milking parlor
I had one that would not stop bleeding and the vet told me to get ahold of the bleeding vein and pull it until it snapped and it stopped bleeding right away.
Now that Kenzie is on her own and married she's realizing that Mom and Dad have food that she can mooch😂😂
good stuff, good eating too self-sufficient is the way to go folks. 👍👍
If the cables are going to break, why arent you replacing the whole harness? It will break sometime, and maybe cause a fire.
We may end up replacing the whole harness.
Nice video as always. Hope everybody is doing well your friend from Virginia.
immediately after dehorning apply iodine solution & Neomycin ointment of the resected horns to prevent infection # administer Ketoprofen im to inhibit pain # ❤️🇵🇰
Oi 👍👍👍👍👍😺
extremely good fertilizer chicken manure probably the best
Good morning 🙏 🌄 and good afternoon 😊 from keavy Kentucky do you need some more help on the farm you and your family doing okay and you and your family doing a good job
Those Parsnips are huge great video
wow!
I have a burner for my calves horns you guys doing good
thank you
Good to see McKenzie back
That chicken had a lot to say. I want some horns for my car but I want some Texas long horns. Good to see you.
parsnips in chicken soup are good also, they add a sweetness
Will those horns grow back if you don't get to the root?
Ladies enjoy 💯
My favorite tractor is the Challenger. This Challenger is better than green, blue, red, or orange tractors. 🙂
Good to have the nice weather. It's supposed to be in the 50's and 60's this week in NE. Don't want to get too excited yet because we still have March to get through. January and March are my least favorite months.
Same, but it's hard not to get excited when the sun is shining and it's warm. 😄
That was a lot of mud!
One of many reasons i buy Organic eggs. lol I have other fun projects. I had 43 chickens once and in the non green part of the country. I had to buy feeds and talk about the work. I buy now and i can go away anytime. That's just me and my freedom. Did i mention the cost of feeds today?
At our plot I love walking around the herb beds munching on our bounty of delicious flavors.I haven’t learned to grow garlic in the last 35 years here so l guess😢it’s time to call it quits
Do you plant the garlic in the Fall?
@@acresofclayhomestead 2022 I did and got garlic greens, are the plants supposed to be mulched a lot over winter?
Yes, mulch to help insulate.
Hi my love
Called a Keystone dehorner. They still make them.
My brother still has the same de-horning tool on the farm that I grew up on. I will not give you grief over de-horning, horns are dangerous to humans and the other animals.
Good Morning beautiful day hello 👋🏾👋🏾 how you doing your still working on your best shows on the tractors?🆒🫴🏾👍🏾🤔💭🔜👏🏾🫵🏾🆗😉🙏🏾
Twins basel
Enjoy your family and videos.
Thank you for sharing with us 😊
👋😊
Always something to do on the farm!! You all do a great job of preventive maintenance !! Thank you so much for sharing your journey!!! Stay safe and God bless!!!! Eddy
I helped raise chickens l cleaned the chicken coop. And the broader house
Rhonda please cook me some parsnips !!!
Kevin , my understanding if you sear the cut end of a horn it will not grow back. What do you think?
If the horn has been cut or broke, it will not grow back.
Kevin. Doesn’t that hurt the Moo Moo’s ?
how is the garlic going to grow!!! there in a bed sleeping lol
😀👍👍👍
Using wire is a lot better and faster.
