This is the kind of friends i want to find haha id love to find a good group of guys who just love wrenching and having a good time.. anymore most people are so stuck to social media or they just dont have any hobbies its sad... ❤❤❤
I know its not that same but my buddy took a rusty small block chevy block that was sitting outside, we ran a ball hone thru it, took parts from 3 other small blocks to make one. Best running small block I've ever ridden in. Put like 30k miles on it and we think it cracked a pistol or broke a ring. Good enough for us!
Buddy had a slapped together sbc 383 dirt track motor that he bought off his boss at the time and it didn’t have even 2 pistons that matched and ran that thing on and off for probably 15yrs as a backup for when his good engines were broke until it finally let go few years ago in spectacular fashion. That thing ran like a scolded dog to have been a piece of junk
it’s replacement was a block and crank out of a ambulance that jumped time and piston hit valve, some rods and pistons from 2 or 3 blown up engines that were setting in a bucket beside another friends garage and some heads from another buddy that had been through a house fire that his brother machined for him one night at a local machine shop when he got off work at the railroad (bored block same night)and a used cam he still don’t even know where he got it or what it is
Josh has got to be both the unluckiest guy and the luckiest guy at the same damn time. Also Josh has got both the hero award and Darwin award all in the same day. Don't know if I should say good on ya or good God look out.
I'da done that too, them pahts (boston accent) are still good, it all worked as it seems. When i did my racing, i used what i had available, used car, prepped with good fasteners, topped with fresh oil and adjusted for the duration, I was the guy to beat for a few years, 4 cyl enduro, it was so much fun, Chargin' Charly, you all are making me long for the day. My next engine is... A 5.9 in a motorhome 2007, hope to apply some worthwhile upgrades, this is a nice channel for the info. thanks.
When can we buy T shirts from PDD to support the ‘Parts Cannon’ build? I think PDD needs to offer code ‘TaylorSwift’ next month and build Meyer another motor 🤷🏼♂️😂
'We did it guys, it's together, running, let's hamer it!.............wait what's with the monsters, who ordered a pallet of monster drinks? Zach did, weird.............pull the motor..........but we, damn 🤦♂️!' Best time trial training for an engine build with the worst timing lmao. It's pretty awesome that you guys are sharing this real world scenario with us and also damned cool how the shop, owners, and staff all work together and operate like family to help each other out. Also I'm glad I'm not the only one who has luck like Josh is experiencing.............not in the sense of I build engines and theu blow up, in the same way that you imagine to yourself worst case issues, combine all the possibilities as a joke and maybe exaggerate it for the sake of humor...............then in reality it ends up even worse than you off than what you jokingly made up 🤣! Keep yer head down and let er eat Josh, with your determination and skill there's no way you will fail bud!! There's a shop, well many shops and manufacturers that clearly believe in their products and you to make all this come together, so lord please keep videoing all aspects of this build, tear down, and rebuild process!!!
Good job guys! Love seeing the due diligence to put this set up through it's paces for testing. D&J for the new block? Really impressive to tear it down, yank the pistons and put it back together with completely different pistons and fire it up in a night. Racing life.
Watch as they take this thing out, boost comes in instantly and it out-60-foot's literally everything else, then Josh won't give up the engine and nobody can figure out which part of wild combination is responsible 😂
This is amazing content right here. Keep up the great work guys! Wish you guys did a giveaway to rebuild an old, tired Cummins! My 2003 could definitely use some love from you guys!
A couple of takeaways: 1) Josh may be the best/worst engine builder but (through the power of post-production) he certainly is the fastest! 2) Work boots and shorts are acceptable at this time of year (late July) and safety compliant! 3) Josh doesn't always wear a hat but when he does it's sure to go fast! Keep plugging away brother and remember what Edison said about success and failure!
I literally have no use for it with 2 vehicles under warranty and 2 motorcycles, but i want one of those digital snapon torque wrenches so freakin bad lol
So im buying an 04 24v Dually with around 394k miles and i want to rebuild it and would want to double the hp. Does this sound like a reasonable choice or is pursuing this path not smart?
Hey brother I have a VP truck with 333,000 miles I bought the double your horsepower kit I did do head studs and I haven’t looked back my opinion not a terrible idea.
Dad said the definition of insanity is voting democrat this November. Did you use Cobalt bits? Go to Kennemetal.com and get a few tungsten carbide drill bits. I got a basic SAE size set for $389 shipped. They’ll drill steel all day long with no problem. When it gets dull after a few thousand holes, touch it up on a diamond wheel.
Double adds.....really you tube....it’s only because it’s a good cause I watched all the way though....great video keep posting and going...maybe wing nuts next time would be easier?
Sooooo the part that failed last time WAY below the rated power was the Hamilton Block...... and now you not only use another one of them but add a bunch more of their parts :D let me grab my popcorn :P I never did catch their excuse for why the castings were so thin on the last block... not that there is a legitimate one
This V2.0 Comp Block measures out to a just a touch thicker than OEM, so if the block truly was the failure point last time, we hope/suspect this one will hang in there much longer! Time will tell!
4:07 Hamilton cams is the best couldn’t say anything bad about them. I’m a nobody and they treated me just the same as you. I was totally taken back by how they treated me. And the situation wasn’t that big of a deal.
Everyone has good days and bad days, but if you're overall treatment of customers is fair and equitable, it will show through as good customer service!
This entire rebuilt sounds like what happens when you blow up first night of a multi day race and you and your buddies go threw all everyone’s old left over or blown up engine parts and build a engine for rest the weekend
You guys are hilarious. Just for fun the Webster's definition of insanity is: severe mental illness : the condition of being insane : something that is very foolish or unreasonable. The quote that says it is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results is incorrectly attributed to Albert Einstein and instead is from author Rita Mae Brown and is attributed to the fictional character Jane Fulton from the book Sudden Death. It's funny how things like that get started and before you know it people start believing the Earth is flat.
Yes, the pickup tube bolts to the girdle plate and girdle plate has an o-ring seal around the pickup tube port, so essentially the girdle becomes a 5/8" thick shim or block extension across the whole machined block surface.
40hrs is standard work week. After hours is generally personal projects/play time and some guys play as much as they work meaning 80hrs total at the shop.... it's a fun hobby!
Lot more work to make a high flowing head in a cummins. Can’t port the intake runners without milling off the intake shelf. At which point you find that there’s not much casting material left to port anyway. Check out the “Master the Warhead” video these guys have.
I doubt they're going to say what actually happened... if I had to take a guess either a casting shift in that block, porosity and it filled a cylinder with coolant and bam blown up shit. Sometimes it happens
@@TheMoldyOne it's possible being in the car biz tho sometimes you just get a bad part. Bad casting, porosity, casting shift....it sucks when it happens especially when it's so publicized. If it was an issue with a Hamilton block I'm sure it's being addressed. I'm sure they would make good if they found a defect. I would hope anyway..
Most steel piston applications in that bore size call for 002" to 003" PTW clearance because steel expands at nearly the same rate as cast iron, it needs less initial clearance. Some would argue 005" was too much clearance and caused the piston to rock and break the skirt. Regardless, setup #2 with cast pistons and a moderate 008" PTW is still hanging in there!
" you can't work on trucks when your drinkin ".... Who says??!! You ain't my momma..... As I look across the yard at the broken truck that's been sitting in the drive for 5 years..... Point made, I'll except that.
What a great company to work for. Seems like a family.
Literally if I worked there I'd take payment in parts.
Very true sir.
I love the how much fun y’all are having with the haters while doing this 😂

From what I see, it seems like truly a bad ass company to work for. Keep up the good work.
Zack @ Hamilton top shelf company they were more than patient with me when I didn’t know up from down about cam sizing
Repeating The Same thing and Expecting Different Results? Perfect Philosophy!
Some of the best in engines I've built were collections of parts from other blown up engines
All the parts that survived that engine make it on the next one. It’s like natural selection for engines.

I’ve talked to zack when I called there with a question about a Hamilton cam. He is very helpful and his customer service is awesome.
So much fun and joy you guys have working together and helping each other
4:03 is the best when tod pokes his head out to watch and as soon as the turbo spools he heads for cover
Smart dude, he doesn't want to get hit with turbo or engine fragments if it comes apart!
@@pddofficial keep the videos coming!
Yup. Sounds like an angry tractor.
It's a Cummins alright.
Hahahaha this had my dying 🤣🤣🤣
you guys should do a hardness test on each block
That would be cool to see
Great content guys, awesome stuff, don't ever change!
You guys are a huge inspiration for me to keep building mine!!
thanks and we will!
Had 2 blocks on the shelf, holds up 4 fingers🤣 how to confuse the UA-cam experts.
This is what old time racing was all about. Love to see it. God speed
ok i need come hang out there couple weeks fun working on truck and doing what you love and hello to Josh from San Jacinto Ca keep it up Josh

A cheap way to check for cracks on a forged crank is to hit one of the throws with a ball peen hammer and listen to the sound......

Was the oil pump pickup extended to the proper depth since adding the main girdle?
Yes, the pickup tube bolts to the girdle plate and girdle plate has an o-ring seal around the pickup tube port, so essentially the girdle becomes a 5/8" thick shim or block extension across the whole machined block surface.
I dont drink either haha more money for parts lol red bull is my flavor of choice lol

BRING THE THUNDER!!!
Is the Marsh gauge showing oil pressure? If so that's some healthy oil pressure.
Yes sir. It’s pretty common to idle right there in the 50-60psi range for the first minute or so of idling.
In my gas turbo engines, I kinda prefer smallish cams and high flowing heads
Lot more work to make a high flowing head in a cummins. Can’t port the intake runners without milling off the intake shelf. At which point you find that there’s not much casting material left to port anyway. Check out the “Master the Warhead” video these guys have.
