@eyezick he pulled that exact same move on Luongo during their 1st round cup run when he was with the Isles. Wins it in OT and JT sent the Isles to the 2nd round and ended their drought. Just like he did for Toronto.
I love hearing chief talk. The Toronto Maple Leafs are a totally different team now their mentality is different. Their work ethic is different Stanley's coming home baby #LeafsForever
Berube looks so comfortable as the leafs coach. I have not seen this since Quinn at least and it reminds me more of Burns. He's a great fit for what they need.
Gonna be all sorts of games regular season. I'm excited for the playoffs. Leafs won't need to do a 180 this year with how they play. Apparently we also have depth which is big time important come playoffs
I really liked Myers game other than the one bad giveaway...7 hits, plus 2, a good block, first point as a Leaf and 4 shots...very noticeable in a good way
Oho ooo yes was good hockey 🏒 last night, the goalie was fantastic great job, welcome back Auston Matthews, great player, from Dalhousie NB Canada 🇨🇦, keep winning guys ! Proud of you all! 👏👏👏👏💙🏒🥅🏒💙🇨🇦💙💙💙👍👍
There’s no impact inside the locker room, we’re thrilled to win every single win, I wish Connor Bedard nothing but the best, yes he was awesome in Junior, I still believe that he’ll find ways to put the puck behind the net and I know he will, he’s talented and there’s no question about it, good Game Chicago, good job you guys.
@@johnsummerhill8323 what do you mean? lol Both Matthews and Nylander are great setup players, they are just more commonly known for their scoring abilities because of how lines have been managed in other years. Nylander's pass to Matthews was a beauty, and that line is mawing the opposition. All 3 players can score at any given chance, so they open up ice way easier too
Having them on two different lines will produce more goals for the team. Great players can work together no doubt ,but only one guy on a line usually scores the goals. With two great shooters on two lines, production will be higher. Having said that, Matthews can cover Nylander's defensive woes.
@@johnsummerhill8323no having marner and Matthews split is better. A teams best center and best winger never play together like Kane towes and TKachuck barkov. Matthews and nylander always played together since the start under Babcock
@@pahul79 If the Leafs trade for a good centre, it will be to pair with Nylander. He is not going to score 40 goals if he stays with Matthews. Only one guy can score when the opportunity arises. Marner was on the ice for 62 percent of Matthews goals last year, other than when he was hurt. Ultimately, they will end up back together as they have over the last several years.
Tree has built an awesome team! Glad Shanny dumped Dubas and hired him!!! Looks like we found our 3rd line center in Minten!! Imagine when he and Cowen get together!! Great drafting Leafs! I remember years ago when we used to trade away all our assets for a rent-a-player!
Tree has added his flavor to the team for sure, but Minten and Cowen are Dubas parting gifts. Plus there is still plenty of time to go the rental route, don't give them any credit before it's due.
I had seen 4 of the 5 games Fraser Minten played with the Marlies just a short while back and commented "Don't be surprised if this kid sticks with the Leafs." Of course the experts who had not seen him play yet jumped all over that comment. "He needs more seasoning, no point in rushing him blah, blah, blah." To those people I say watch him closely in a game and simply count the things he does that coaches just love. His on ice smarts make him seem like an NHL veteran. His positioning is superb but it's how he almost never gets pushed off of the puck and wins most puck battles that really stand out. This team had found its 3rd line center.
Our division rivals Florida, Tampa, Ottawa and Boston all pay $8.25-$10m/year for their starting goalies. Our tandem costs $6m total and are doing better than all of them. 🤭
I won't lie guys not the best game but a W is a W. Stolarz was amazing and I'm happy to see Matthews finally get one and great pass by willy all though I'm wondering if auston's not yet fully healed he was good just not normal Auston matthews level, yet again tho not the best game by the Leafs . JT good goal nice move and marner with the assist once again with a play along the boards. Minten to bring the lead back to a lead of 2 goals, he's looking great give him time to develop and he'll be a great depth the Leafs need. Marner with a breakaway should've shot it although we all make wrong choices sometimes and it's worked for him before. Kniesy got the empty netter on what could've been icing although great bank pass from marner.
Thanks to Craig for whipping these boys into shape. I know it's such a goddamn cliche, but I honestly haven't seen The Leafs look this good, ever. A few concerns over the amount of injuries but when our depth is clicking as well as it is it's hard to complain. Defense has been rock solid on the penalty kill and we have goalies that can actually make a save when it matters. It really, really does "Feel different" this year, doesn't it?
wanted to also say keep JT and Marner together Marner I think is too worried abt passing when he's with Matthews that he forgets to shoot although I love the Duo Marner and JT are playing the best hockey of their careers in Toronto together
He thought knies was closer to him, I agree he should've shot though. But marner has done these types of plays many times and got rewarded alot so it's not a massive surprise he did that. At least he got his primary assist on knies empty goal a minute later anyway
A great, dependable goaltender is worth more than one top centre... and Stolarz does not have enough work history of dependable, top level play to actually land anyone of Zibanejad, Larkin, Aho, Hughes, Eichel, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, or McDavid, top level centre calibre.
His injury probably has something to do with it. I know in training mma I got injured alot and it affected my mood for long stretches, theirs always more to the story than meets the eye
That was literally a compliment. Minten is objectively not large for an NHL player, and while he's nimble and slips through plays he's not particularly fast. Matthews is saying that even despite lacking a huge frame or crazy speed he's still able to make great plays. Considering speed, and especially size, are both largely genetic, being able to keep up or exceed other NHL players while lacking those things is impressive, and pointing that out is a compliment.
Easy to see why. Solid D, solid PK, great goaltender performance. But they really only "sh... the bed" in the 2nd period... not that it's acceptable, just needs to be improved upon.
Leading by example in work ethic, attention to detail, and dedication. Never much of a charismatic, inspirational, or articulate leader though. Love what Johnny Hockey is doing on the ice though... absolutely.
Marner will never learn to just shoot the puck when he should, this pass first mentality is hurting his game big time and will keep him from becoming a superstar.
Best goalie tandem in the league right now full stop.
Not sure I'd go that far, but I'd be confident to say best in the Atlantic Division for sure.

Stolarz shut the door and steals the game without his saves the game is very close. The D needs to box out better in front of the net.
