After two postponements, David Noble’s St Albans City extended the winning start to 2024 to a fifth game when completing a National League South double over a resurgent, but now stuttering, Havant & Waterlooville at Clarence Park on 23rd January.
Zane Banton set City on the path to a seventh straight win in four years over the Hawks as he scored City’s 900th goal in National League South. Two minutes before the interval and Havant striker Ryan Seager squared things up with the 900th goal that City have conceded at this level.
A deflected effort by George Hoddle restored our advantage midway through the second half and two tap-ins during the dying embers of the game wrapped up our highest home score in a league game since October 2021.
City now await the visit of league leaders Yeovil Town on Saturday (27th) looking to record a first win in ten meetings with The Glovers. Yeovil have won their last five games and have lost once in 20 league matches. City have won all five of their competitive games so far this year - something has to give!
