A Podful of Saints: S6#8: Saints in the Market for Cup boost

St Albans City’s record-breaking dire start to their National League South campaign saw the club plummet to the foot of the table on Saturday (7th September 2024) but there were shards of optimism for the City faithful in a crowd of 1,551 to cling to as Weston-super-Mare’s five match winning run was halted at Clarence Park.
A goalless draw is not often cause for celebration but the manner of City’s performance was, hopefully, a sign of things to come. Scott Bartlett’s Seagulls may have had the clearer chances but David Noble’s Saints generally held the upper hand and, for once, created a reasonable number of goal scoring opportunities. That none were taken has left Nobby’s boys with the unenviable double record of the Saints lowest tally of points collected and goals scored from the first eight games of any league season.
Attention now switches to the F.A. Cup as City make their first trip to Needham Market’s Bloomfields home in Quinton Road in Suffolk. Kevin Horlock’s Marketmen are getting accustomed to life in the National League North and, unlike St Albans, have a couple of league wins to their credit as they sit just above the relegation places.
In this latest edition of A Podful of Saints the City Podsters look back on the draw with Weston and embrace the F.A. Cup with a look at this coming Saturday’s 2nd Round Qualifying tie with Needham Market, and also look back at good and bad days in the competition through the eyes of other city supporters.

As a Swedish based saints fan, I wasn’t impressed with the Norway top 😉😉
Another great show boys, the FA Cup chat brought back some good and bad memories. Wisbeach away, great result but the locals was a disgrace! AFC Sudbury was another great one. Bamber Bridge at home was a low point.
Hopefully we get a win on Saturday and make some more memories en route to the final!
