- Tampa Police Chief Mary O'Connor has been placed on administrative leave after she and her spouse were pulled over while riding a golf cart without a license plate outside of a residential area.
Assistant Chief Lee Bercaw will serve as acting chief pending the outcome of an investigation into the traffic stop, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor tweeted on Friday.
The investigation is not expected to take longer than a week, a spokesperson from the mayor's office confirmed.

The mayor did nothing wrong but the Chief did by abusing her power. Shows lack of character. She should have accepted her ticket. That's my take.

I know in Michigan a golf cart in a public street is illegal. Not sure the whole situation. I would say a golf cart in Tampa would be a huge NO!

I would think that the Mayor already knows about the other embarrassing incidents that have not be publicised yet. That's probably why she didn't bother to fight this battle with Ms Ms MaRy. You know Ms MaRy didn't really resign, the Mayor more than likely asked her to leave, in lue of firing her.
I think it's cool they did not overlook her actions. If she is willing to abuse her power for something so simple here, no telling what she would do in other more critical situations.

I'd like to know where the cop who let them go factors into this. Is he the reason the footage became known? Was he reprimanded for letting them go? Why isn't this addressed in the news story? There were only three people in the situation. He was instrumental in what happened. So how is this fact passed over?

I don’t get it. She was embarrassed that she was the police chief and in a situation like this, and literally hoping that at the officers discretion which they do all the time let her go. A golf cart incidence is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. Does anyone have any common sense around here?
I agree. And she was pretty respectful about the whole thing. Never belligerent and hoped she could be let go. She didn't order him. Way overblown.

She used her position of authority to skirt the law. She knew his body can was on and still incriminated herself on camera.
That chief of police used her authority to tell law enforcement to freak off.
