  • The do it yourself face cast! To make sure our channel is a one-stop-shop for everything in special effects makeup we decided to do a face cast tutorial as well.
This will be used in some of our upcoming makeups so make sure you create your own :-)
ONLY USE PLASTER GAUZE and always follow the insctructions on your specific product. Our particular brand is to be used with water below 35° to avoid exothermic reaction.

And no, it's NOT dangerous. Make sure you use THIN sheets of PLASTER GAUZE ON YOUR FACE, and a very small amount of it.
But DO NOT use regular plaster mix on your skin casue it may get too hot when it sets :)

Just did a face cast with this tutorial! It's super easy but I would suggest wearing a bald cap or swim cap to extend the plaster further as the cast can become a little skinny and shallow! I've seen conversations about alginate but this application is super easy for a beginner like me

  • @laurenbennett896

Omg. I did this last night and MAN I wish I face planted the Vaseline instead of just putting it on my brows and under eye area. It came off easily where I had Vaseline.. but as for the rest of my face, it hurt. And it did not want to come off no matter how hard I tried. I basically just had to rip it off.
A couple things: I covered my hair with plastic wrap and kept it in place on my forehead using liquid latex as an adhesive-I don’t think it’s worth risking your hair falling into the plaster. And this video made it look so easy but taking it off did not go that smoothly for me at all.
I’m very happy to have my own face cast but there has to be a better way of doing this. Maybe covering your whole face in Vaseline would help the mask come off? Idk good luck >.

Lauren Bennett yeah, when I took mine off I nearly broke mine completely. Luckily, I managed to save it. Putting the mixture into the face cast was also different. When it got to the creamy texture it began to dry quickly so hopefully when I take it out there won’t be any lumps, but the back does look lumpy. Maybe I could sand it so it’s smooth

Tanya Yexley Okay I’ve learned a ton since then. Never put plaster bandages directly on your skin. Use alginate to take the impression of all the details of your face or whatever you’re lifecasting-it’s not only safe for your skin but captures way more detail than the method in this video. Then you put the plaster bandages over the alginate to give it a shell to hold its shape, and pour your hydrocal into that after you pop the alginate and bandage shell off your face (which actually comes off smoothly).
When I went to Monsterpalooza and told some people what I did following this video, they said “don’t ever do that again. You’re lucky you didn’t lose your face.”

This is such a good tutorial!! Thank you so much! Any other face cast tutorial I've seen involves at least 2 people and the one with the cast on has to sit with their face and eyes covered completely for at least 20 minutes. Now I can do it myself! Thank you ❤️

@@songbird2614 no ! the plaster gauze is kinda like a paper mask- paper and glue and is very relaxing if someone is doing it on you :) just remember to cover whole face and some hair with vaseline. Latex prostetics can hurt on baby hairs not plaster gauze :D

Transformer is fabric, which only can be used once, if it is rubber, maybe can be use many times

Is the plaster safe to put on your face? Like If you were making a face piece, mask etc

On the actual face cast (the part u mixed half water half plaster) did u use regular plaster or plaster gause like when u did the face mold? Sorry if I misspelled it. And love your work!

Yes, stage 2 is regular plaster. But only put plaster gauze on your face on stage 1 :)

What type of plaster powder do you use to pour into your plaster gauze mask? Any recommendations?

Im teaching myself SFX makeup andfor one of my prosthetics i needed a face mold. i had gitten a mask making kit a few years prior that had plaster gauze soidecided to use that. i use vasaline to cover my eyebros and any extra baby hair and started working. i had no complications untill it needed to be taken off. as my hair is quite thick, when i added the vasaline some hair didnt stick down and got pulled away(which was enevitably quite painful).so dear commenters wh are deciding to do this: although the plaster gauze didn't dry up my skin, it was ecedingly painful to remove, so unless you have the proper materials(a nice oil or vasolie as well), i would not recomend using this method.

I've seen comments saying that this is life threatening. Is there actually a safe way to do this type of thing because I just want to progress as I can't really make any prosthetics. 😔

I have a question. Would you be able to use ultra cal 30 for the face pour instead of plaster, so it's less brittle?

  • @RichardCano
    @RichardCano 5 років тому

Could you let it dry on top of gently vibrating surface for like an hour or two at first so that it causes bubbles to rise to surface away from the face details? Or would that mess it up?
