This week on JMR Rebuilders, we decide to help out a buddy with his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Who can't identify with a repair project when you fix one thing and another part gets broken? This week we work on trying to locate the problem and replacing an upper control arm. Sometimes projects just don't go as planned!
We are working towards creating weekly videos which will be posted on Tuesdays at 4pm. Thanks for Subscribing and supporting this new channel!

The problem is that the strut nut that holds the strut mount on was not tightened all the way. This allows the strut rod to move slightly up and down independent from the mount. What you hear is the rod make contact with the mount. Pop the black rubber cover from the top of the strut (by the three bolts) and use an impact to tighten it. You will not be able to tighten it by hand as it will spin.

@@dylanrhoades3439grab the rod from in the fender well with a pair of vice grips but put an old piece of rubber hose around the strut rod before clamping it with vise grips to avoid damaging it that should keep it from spinning while using the impact on top to tighten the nut

Rattle Over Bumps - if you have an older WK2 (mine is a 2015 with 100K) with original break pads, your rattle could be caused by rusted mounting studs on the break pads. They make the little pressure mounting tabs out of cheap metal and they literally rust away with time and then allow the pads to make an annoying rattle over bumps (can occur on rear as well). I live in Cleveland, OH and dump a lot of salt on our roads, so if you go longer than say 5 years, and live in a similar environment you may have the same issue. Simple fix with new pads (although both my rotors and pads had another 10-15K in them). I have NEVER had a set of pads last longer than 35-40K - Jeep did a great job engineering the pads and rotors to match the WK2 (mine is V6)! When I went to replace them, I used paid up to use MOPAR parts hoping to get same results again - don't mess with success!

Well we had to jack up the jeep. Once up we remove the bolt for the ball joint and then used a wrench to remove the two bolts on either side of the arm. It then pulled out. It's a rather simple process. The difficulty is there isnt much room to get at the bolt heads. But with patience and taking it slow its possible. Thanks for the question and support.

We have this popping noise in our 2017 Cherokee sport. We cannot find it. Most places want a diagnostic fee for finding it. I’m thinking of just paying them. I’ve narrowed it to the drivers side for the sound. If anyone has an idea let me know. If it helps we turned the wheel far left (from inside) and heard a very loud pop like noise. You hear it when driving straight or turning or bumps. It’s driving my wife nuts.
