that Danny portrait in the red costume is so good ! thanks for sharing and sprinkling art motivation .
You are so welcome!
When you are an artist.. you can draw/paint with DIRT and it will still look good! Sigh... to have such talent.. what a gift!
I don't think it's talent. I think it's dedication and hard work that pushes her to do so well. If you spend time practicing, sketching and put forth the effort, you too can achieve wonderful things!
Years of practice and dedication is what makes an artist. We don't magically just wake up one day and are able to draw. Telling any artist they are talented is kinda an insult because your implying we didn't work are butts off to get were we are.
@@KagomeMorino Sorry.. but you are wrong.. most of these folks on here ARE born with the gift... and if an artist is "insulted" when they are told they are talented.. then they have weak minds and thin skins... LOL... huh??
I agree with the above comments..we spend hundreds of hours (if not more)on each medium and continue to learn..and yes..its insulting when someone says “oh your so talented “. They say, “i could never do that, where i respond, yes you can, you just have to have he drive and love of the process to put the time in to learn. Not just try one drawing and say..nope, cant do it.
I loved this video, thank you! Have you tried using a colorless blender marker in conjunction w these techniques? I got a 6ct of the ohuhu brush marker in colorless 0 for pretty cheap that I use for diff techniques in a couple of non marker mediums. Some ballpointnt inks change hue a bit, others just blend, but it's a fun addition to my art toolkit!😊
Hullo Emily, I notice a lot of people mentioning "Talent" in the comments. I do believe in talent, but that does not mean that Artists do not work at hard at their vocation! Some things might be easier, but to get good and stay good takes practice! Everyone must practice even with teh "gift" of talent or perception or whatever you feel gifted with. Thanks for showing us your foray into pen drawing, your doing quite well!
Im loving that sketchbook tour! You did an amazing job. Usually I use ball point pens just for little doodles and sketches, your drawings are just another level!!
Oh thank you!
I love drawing with ballpoint pen, but I've never been patient enough to get this detailed. This makes me want to try.
Yay! You’ll love it!
You are extremely talented, thank you
Thank you! 😊
Ballpoint is my handy drawing instrument when I travel. The response to pressure, the ability to create gradations, and something about the way the ballpoint viscosity feels on good drawing paper creates a great drawing experience. I also like that should I want to add watercolor later on I can do it without fear of my lines running. Thank you for this demo! I ordered the set and look forward to drawing with them!
Thanks for sharing!
So amazing! I've not seen pen drawings like this before. Thanks for sharing. All your drawings are beautiful!
Thank you so much 😀
De Moose Art channel has been doing ballpoint pen art like this and better for years. check him out.
OMG - I had no idea that pen came in the other colors besides that red/blue/green/black combo! Thanks for the inspiration to use pens more. Your sketchbook is wonderful! At any rate, I love my multipen and just ordered the set. What a perfect little travel set they make. Although I do have to confess that I always have to do a pencil outline before I go in with pen. I ften do try to experiment with pen first, tho. Needless to say I have a long ways to go in that department..lol
Happy to help!
Thanks Emily.. I love your enthusiasm! Amazing lesson! 🙏🏼✨🎨💕
So glad!
Inspiring! Lovely drawings. The model in the red dress and your husband's portrait are my favorites. This encourages me to be more bold with my sketching practice without the safety net of an eraser!
Thank you so much 😀
Your favorite is also my favorite! Thanks for this great video, tips and sketchbook tour. 😊
wow you are so talented👏👏👏 just love it❤❤❤❤
Wow you can see how much more detail you can see when you got ahold of more colors. I do the same but in colored pencils. Gotta try the pens.
So true!
Thanks. I too have/am learning that sketch books are a wonderful and useful tool and can be quite pleasurable. I currently have three 5x8 pads I work in two of which I use a fountain pen and do primarily stippling. My 1st pad is for just human figures on velum paper & fountain pen only, the 2nd one is for cartooning on regular drawing paper primarily fountain pen with a variety of strokes and the 3rd one is hodge-podge of subjects and mixing of watercolor/gouache and fountain pen on watercolor paper. Thanks again for the flow of enjoyable videos.
Você é uma grande artista ❤❤❤
Thank you!
Good grief! You are really talented.
I love drawing in ball point pen!
I can't find the BIC one with yellow. All the yellow pens I bought ends being some sort of brown or dark ochre..
Thanks for showing all of this❤
Amazing! What masterpieces!
Thank you! I’m inspired🎉🎉🎉
This is such a great video! Fun to see you working in a different medium (of course, just as well).
Such wonderful work. Very inspiring indeed.
Thank you Emily. I'll have to try this medium. Beautiful sketches!
Thank you! I think you’d enjoy it!
This is so fun!
Wow, Emily, those are amazing! I loved seeing all your pen sketches!
Yay, thank you!
You have very impressive drawing skills. Interesting concepts using ink pens.
This is so inspiring!
Stunning work!
Thank you!
This is so amazing 🎉
Super neat
You are absolutely amazing your drawings are beautiful. I'm going have to give this a try thank you for sharing 😊🎉
Thank you so much 😀
Wonderful work. Very inspiring indeed
Many thanks!
This is awesome 👏 I have the bic blue multi color pen 🖊️ but it’s kinda difficult to find the yellow sun ☀️ bic pen 🖊️ that’s the one ☝️ I need. Hands down bic pens are the best in quality and smoothness thanks for sharing!
Super art work
Wow, they are excellent pictures.
Thank you!
This is so good, so many incredible tips ☺☺
So glad!
This is so inspiring! You are so talented=3
Wow!
As always, your drawings are amazing. Thank you for sharing them. I'm wondering about how long it takes to complete one of these portraits in that size with the pens.
I think about 2 to 3 hours.
Love rhis.
Your artwork is stunning!! I carry a tiny (2 inch) sketchbook and one of those bic pens with me as my “emergency sketch kit” for when unexpected opportunities come up when I’m out and about. My pen has black, blue and red plus it has a mechanical pencil instead of the usual green colour. Obviously I am limited to just 3 colours this way and my sketches are usually very quick. However, this video has inspired me to experiment more and to try harder to get a more polished end result. Thank you
That’s perfect!
Wow amazing drawings 🎉
Thank you so much 😀
Awesome
Nice work 🎉❤
I never liked ballpoint drawing but wow his art is amazing. And you did a really good job too. Almost sold them to me but no, too many bad high school memories of doodling caricatures of my teachers.
beautiful! i use ballpoint pens and i like to look for all the colors out there... i can suggest some if you want.
Nice 👍🏼 👍🏼
wow wow
Pen is so much fun. Thanks for making a video! I have this set of pens from office depot. I also have found pens in multiple colors from dickblicks. I had a hard time finding yellow in the past. I also found an artist pen with fine points at the blicks store in person that isn't listed online. Dollar tree also has pens with multiple colors but I have found those pens a bit frustrating to use. They are fine point and take extra marks to create pieces with it.
Thanks for sharing! Nice to know there are other options out there!
I would love to try ballpoint pens... it's so scary for me not being able to erase though 😅
Your sketches are great! ✨
You can do it!
I have only just started learning about how to make ink drawings, but what I understood is that you should lift your pen up between strokes. Also that you should only go in 3 directions (horizontal, vertical and diagonal one direction only). But you don’t do all that, yet your drawing looks fantastic. So I don’t know what is the proper technique, or doesn’t it matter?
Can you please do more tutorial on ballpoint pen
Great demo as always! Thank you. Quick question: what brand were the pens you used?
De Moose Art channel is the best ballpoint pen artist
you’re from Denver!
Beautiful! What kind of paper did you use?
It’s listed in the description. :)
Beyond impressive (and intimidating)! Approximately how long did the more detailed ones take? You are so very skilled, but this looks very time intensive. QUESTION: Since it was a good quality journal with no bleeding, why did you use only one side of each page?
The more detailed ones took 2-3 hours. And I only do one side just in case I want to remove one to frame, give away or sell. :-)
@@EmilyOlsonArt Thank you!
Wow. I have been using black pens for awhile for portraits. I saw old photos of people from Titanic, and did a few portraits on Acrylic paper.
Also tried scribble portraits, from Mad Charcoal suggestions.. But hard to do small. You are so talented
I still struggle with stick figures 😁✌️
INK+PEN=ART• That’s my logo, even though I have not copyrights it. I stumble up on your site by serendipity. that’s what I am. A freehand graphic illustrator with ink pens. I’m over 65 and I’m still learning.:) thanks for this information. Drawing with pen and ink, it’s excellent, It forces one to pay attention to extreme detailed and as you said, it increases your critical skill set because there’s very small margin for error.. But if you know how the ink interfaces with the paper and the ballpoint at the tip , your hand techniques you can still create masterpieces.🕊️
