Maybe, but you wouldn't know it from his demeanour. He doesn't look like he is taking any notice if you ask me. Also, from behind the stage, the sound will be poor compared to being out front, so why would you sit there if you wanted to listen?
At 7:02 I noticed drums being hit but not by the drummer. After re-watching it was the good Dr. hitting his drum synth. Great fill. What an amazing and powerful trio.
Dr Smith just keeping the real music creative and the Guitar Player is just great and very skillful. The Drummer complemented the whole group and helped set the tone of the day. This Group is tight and I could listen to them anytime because they make you feel the music. BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO Joe Saulsbury
Love this set. Lonnie shows a great range of styles, from jazz and soul jazz to fusion and rock and I like the way he has incorporated some modern technology into his music without compromising on the basic sound that we've all loved for many years. He makes perfect use of the hugely talented musicians either side of him, too. Impressive.
WOOOOOOOWWWW. What performance ! How modern, energetic inteligent strong but subtle... I never dreamed that I will listen this concert 3 times in a row.... Wooooow. Perfect
Wow!? This came up on my feed... I was expecting some old jazz standards being played by a moldy fig. Man, the compositions were sometimes out-there, and inspired playing and imaginative stuff by a very creative band. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and watching. I guess I better start paying attention to Dr. Smith.
Amazing performance, Dr. Smiths mastery of harmony and the guitars melodic phrasing blend great together; and the drums dynamic brings it all together. Can't get much better than this.
Saw this trio Aug 8 2014 in Oakville Ontario Canada. Wow! Nothing else like it. Don't miss them if they perform near you. This is a great recording. Well done Jazz 88.3 KCCK!
Ryan Veltmeyer I was there at the church too! His build ups plus the acoustics of the building made it one of the most intense and impactful musical moments in my entire life (and I've been to countless metal and punk shows too; they'd wish they could reach anywhere near his intensity).
Who could dent that? To be honest, being British myself I didn't expect such STATE OF THE ART GENIUS to emanate from IOWA, of all places. (Please FORGIVE me for my presumptuousness.). From what I've heard, though, this is FULLY upto date, HIGHLY professional, WORLD -CLASS MODERN JAZZ .. THEREFORE .. please MAINTAIN this standard of professional, almost avant-garde brilliance, and SHOCK THE WORLD!!! 😎👍😎👍👍
I thought I'd have this concert playing while I did work on my computer. Didn't happen, I had to watch every minute. Fantastic, I wish I could have been there. Perfect in every way, great musicianship by all, loads of fun. How did this get 15 thumbs down?
Look, Life before the Virus! Just to be around People and Music. Who knew I would Miss that.......It will get Better. A Good Jazz Concert is what we Need........Now! 2020
Saw the Good Doctor and Joe Dyson on stage at the Snug Harbor in New Orleans this past Thanksgiving. Amazing, so glad i can watch them perform again. Thanks for the upload!
But let all who put their trust in You rejoice; let them always shout for joy, because You defend them. And let those who love Your name be joyful in You --- JESUS CHRIST IS LORD
S'il fallait traduire l'expression de mon sentiment en un seul mot, ce mot n'existerait pas. S'il fallait lister les mots, une page ne suffirait pas...
EASILY, KREISBERG'S GREATEST PERFORMANCE ON TAPE. Not that Kreisberg wasn't a terrific guitarist but this performance is far and away the most satisfying musically.
There is a few of them there..........at a minimum there was an organizer, audio engineer, and video producer that knew what they were experiencing. Sometimes it's about turning some new fans on and I'm sure some in attendance didn't come to the show knowing what to expect and left changed. I've watched this a handful of times and always conclude that I'm jealous of those in attendance
This is a good question. Maybe there was no advertising for the show before, maybe the time of the month/day was badly selected. Having the right attendance is a big part in the equation.
Kreisberg is one fortunate a-hole to get this bounty of a gig! How awesome would it be to play with the most creative and groovin' organist ever!? Rhetorical q of course!
Is he fortunate, or did he just earn the honour through hours of practice and raw talent? I am sure he would argue the latter. One of the finest jazz guitarists in the world. Lonnie probably considers himself equally fortunate to have had Jonathan by his side these past few years as together they have worked to keep the act fresh. I went to see them at Ronnie Scotts in London earlier this year and of course it was brilliant, but different to this (full video of that performance is on here - search for 'Lonnie Smith Ronnie Scotts'). Each year they freshen up the set and keep you guessing about what you will see.
The great Dr. has since passed but 11 years since this absolutely great jazz performance rocks like few others ever have. R.I.P. Dr. Lonnie Smith.
Two words... Joe Dyson! Killing it
You're DEAD RIGHT on THAT score!!
Gotta love grandpa in the orange t shirt chilling at the back.
+Rajorshi Bhattacharyya he doesnt look interested. Probably a Steppenwolf fan.
+Rajorshi Bhattacharyya He gave it up in 37th minute :-)))
+Oskar Dolch his wife didn't last that long, she skips out just after the start :)
+John Clark He's just enjoying
Maybe, but you wouldn't know it from his demeanour. He doesn't look like he is taking any notice if you ask me. Also, from behind the stage, the sound will be poor compared to being out front, so why would you sit there if you wanted to listen?
Jonathan is a master on the guitar. He plays with the right kind of undestatement letting his partners on stage shine like fucking stars
At 7:02 I noticed drums being hit but not by the drummer. After re-watching it was the good Dr. hitting his drum synth. Great fill. What an amazing and powerful trio.
Rest in power to the great Dr. Lonnie Smith, a hero of jazz!
best guitar solo ever wow what a guitarist to complement Dr. Lonnie
Dr Smith just keeping the real music creative and the Guitar Player is just great and very skillful. The Drummer complemented the whole group and helped set the tone of the day. This Group is tight and I could listen to them anytime because they make you feel the music. BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO
Joe Saulsbury
Unbelievable JK... the most versatile an inspirated guitar in the jazz XXI century scene
Love this set. I was baying like a wolf on some of those changes.. brilliant power trio.
Woooowww Jonathan Kreisberg/Dr. Loonie Smith what a great combination!
WOOOOOOOWWWW. What performance ! How modern, energetic inteligent strong but subtle... I never dreamed that I will listen this concert 3 times in a row.... Wooooow. Perfect
This was unexpectedly not ONLY COMPETENT, but actually STEAMINGLY GOOD MODERN JAZZ! MANY thanks for sending it!!! 👍👍👍😎😎😎

I have watched this at least 10x...awesome video
Saw him last night at Halifax Jazz Fest.... unbelievable performance! On my top 5 list of concerts ever.
Ryan Veltmeyer I was there at the church too! His build ups plus the acoustics of the building made it one of the most intense and impactful musical moments in my entire life (and I've been to countless metal and punk shows too; they'd wish they could reach anywhere near his intensity).
souio Right!!?? amazing
I have a couple of Dr. Smith's 70's records, but I'm going to have to check out more of his recent work. Great Trio!
A total religious experience!!! Top notch!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🙏
Their version of My favourite things is one of the best I've ever heard!

Absolutely love Dr. Lonnie Smith with especially this trio! These are some mean Mother F$%#ers!
Hammond, Guitar and Drums is a cool Line Up. Cannot remember other good Trios with this instrumentation. Do you?
I thought I'd have this concert playing while I did work on my computer. Didn't happen, I had to watch every minute. Fantastic, I wish I could have been there. Perfect in every way, great musicianship by all, loads of fun. How did this get 15 thumbs down?
@ 4:06 Main motif to 'Mellow Mood', made famous by Wes Montgomery/ Jimmy Smith collaboration album, it's almost like a variation on 'The Lick'.
Great stuff! A super trio performance too. The drumming and guitar work synch beautifully...
wow! wow! wow! excelent trio!!!
flicked thru to check whether to add to playlist - WoW mAn seriously not heard him but for his70's albums, what have I been missing,
Look, Life before the Virus! Just to be around People and Music. Who knew I would Miss that.......It will get Better. A Good Jazz Concert is what we Need........Now! 2020

S'il fallait traduire l'expression de mon sentiment en un seul mot, ce mot n'existerait pas. S'il fallait lister les mots, une page ne suffirait pas...

EASILY, KREISBERG'S GREATEST PERFORMANCE ON TAPE. Not that Kreisberg wasn't a terrific guitarist but this performance is far and away the most satisfying musically.
And little Joe Dyson seldom played to this level again, not to mention Lonnie Smith.

why do I get the feeling that no one in attendance appreciates what they are seeing in the slightest?

I'm going to go ahead and assume the audience is dumb as fuck and can't appreciate anything good. :D
Kreisberg is one fortunate a-hole to get this bounty of a gig! How awesome would it be to play with the most creative and groovin' organist ever!? Rhetorical q of course!
Yes, there's nothing better than playing with Lonnie... I've done a "B3 battle" with him 2 years ago... 2 B3s on stage with a big band... incredible.
He is excellent regardless. He drives and hangs fine with the Doctor! I think he can play with any big name jazz legend.
Is he fortunate, or did he just earn the honour through hours of practice and raw talent? I am sure he would argue the latter. One of the finest jazz guitarists in the world.
