  • First Frank gets a lesson on making the bed, now SHEILA gets Washing & Drying Clothes 101 with Gramma! Always turn the water OFF & NEVER leave Gramma's clothes in the dryer for more than TWO minutes. Otherwise, they'll fall apart! God forbid!
    Love, Gramma and Ginga

Gramma is a coolest Matriarch ever. She does not play the radio when it comes down to following her instructions. SheilaLynn cracked me up with those clothes in the dryer. She said Gramma will never know what she did...but trust me...all grandmother's knows.😀

Sheila, it's not weird to have an upstairs and a downstairs kitchen. All of my old Italian relatives had a kitchen in the basement and one upstairs, along with a refrigerator, sink, and a fully stocked pantry that could sustain a family of 8 through zombie apocalypse. At Christmas and other big holidays, Nonna had both kitchens going. During the rest of the year anything that potentially had an odor, like fish or fried foods, was prepared and cooked in the cellar. The food was ALWAYS eaten upstairs though. My aunt, who lived to be 102 and was a carbon copy of Gramma, had a stove upstairs from the 1930s and it was in pristine condition. It was rarely used. She cooked everything in the basement and walked up and down those stairs multiple times a day to cook. I see so many similarities between your family and mine. Much love!!!

We will forever be children in their eyes. My mother is 82 and I’m in my 50’s. She moved in with me 11 years ago and every single day of those 11 years I have received careful instructions on how to do everyday things like washing dishes, laundry, cooking and just about everything else. Sometimes, I kid you not, I can finish a task and she is still giving me instructions. When we visit my sisters they receive absolutely no instructions about anything. She might make comments after we leave, but she doesn’t ever tell them how to do something right. It use to drive me bananas, but I got over it years ago when I realized it’s her way of making my house her home.

Girl, that stove is worth a lot of money! You’ll pay anything from $700-$2000 for one of those...they’re really coming back! My grandmother (98) still has hers & it works perfectly. The dang things are like cast iron skillets-the older they are, the better they are. So hang onto it, or get a good appraisal on it before you sell it. Personally, I’d hang onto it.😉

That is traditionally what all families have always done. I grew up in the 70s and 80s with my italian grandmom which im also full blooded italian. Your very kicky to have a grandmom that has traditionally done what most Italian families have done. Households were set up the same way even when they immagrated to america. That stove is a real gem. You should ask her how to learn to use that stove. Dont ever get rid of that stove. And that sink is also a real piece of history. I am sure before you were born all that equipment was used daily. There is alot of sentimental memories behind those two pieces you shown in the video. The ironing board is part of that equation. The set up reminds me of my home. Talk to her and ask her to show you and tell you all about when she used the stove and that sink. And record her stories. Learn wverything you can on how to use that stove. Because you will learn to love how it works and find it is alot nicer than modern stoves with different places to cook food. And one more thing about that sink. The graded tops for draining washed dishes is so much more convenient than having a modern sink drainer. All you need to do is put down a wrack and the water drains straight into the basins. Easier to clean and maintain. I wish iwas able to stop my father from doing what he did to my grandmothers home when she passed away. I dont know what was in his mind but at my young age of 18 when she passed, i only looked at his agenda as an act of greed. I never saw any of my grandmothers belongings again. And can never go back to her home as he sold it. My grandmothers dream was to have me and my sister maintain her home as a family homestead for everyone to have sunday dinner every weekend for the famiky to unite. My grandmothers dream evaporated because of the politcal motives of my father.

omg, a person after my own heart. My dear mother died 3 yrs ago today at the age of 87. she drove right up to 3 wks before she died. she was a fussbuggit. I used to roll my eyes but I tend to take after how now. lol She never left a glass in the sink dirty before going to bed because if there was 'ever a fire' she didn't want the firemen seeing a dirty house. (Like they could see it through the smoke and water damage. ;) ) one time she was dust-mopping around my brother's baseboards at 11pm at night. I asked her what she was doing it for then. her response: "If there was ever a fire." guess who finds herself saying the same thing now? yep, I do. no dirty dishes in the sink. toilet and sinks clorox clean upped. sigh.

Love these ladies... My Mom is 82 and always turns off the water supply to the washer after she does laundry and then unplugs the machine... She would unplug the dryer if she could reach it.

Gramma is smart about turning the water off! I came home one day after being gone and it sounded like someone was in the shower. I went to my bathroom and it looked like a fountain, spraying up, hitting the ceiling and water going out in all directions of the room. One of my faucets had popped off while I was away! I had to crawl under my sink with water hitting me to turn off the water and make it stop. My bathroom and bedroom was flooded. That was only after about 3 hours. I now always turn my water off at the main outside my house when I go on a trip. Live long enough and you learn these lessons that people don't understand why older people can be so particular and quirky. At Gramma's age, she knows more than anyone and she's not taking any chances! She has good reasons for what she does! I am so thankful we have these videos to learn a lot from her. Thank you Sheila for making them and sharing your beloved Gramma. She is a treasure in many ways.❤

Those precise ways are how she has kept all of her beautiful things in prestige condition! We could all learn from her. I do the same thing with my clothing as gramma. Too sweet these two are. I love them so much. Once again thank you so much for sharing these guys with us. Xoxo. PS- I hope Ginga was just tired and not feeling sick. She was worrying me a bit. Give her big big hugs from me!! Lol ;)

That's absolutely wise to turn off the water when you live alone at their age because can you imagine the mess she has cleaned up to learn that lesson. Grandma has wisdom.

Companies would go out of business if we'd all take care of our things as well as Gramma!! My great aunt had similar stove. It was coveted in its day!!!
I bet Sheila Lynn was quizzed regarding "turning water off, drying time and hanging up clothes"...lol
