    What if one from a non- EU country goes there with a tourist visa and then the visa expires, so if they want to go to mainland even for any health reason, do they even have embassies out there in Svalbard to renew your passport or apply for any visa to leave ? How does this work for people living there all their life ?

    If you didn't realize Svalbard is cold, if you didn't realize that it's expensive to live in a remote place, that a remote village has only a few people, if you didn't realize you have to have two plane tickets to travel from a remote island, then you should go back to school, take a world geography class, 3rd grade science, and take a commons-sense course. Just sayin'...

    I live in Tromsø and thrive here. However, in Longyearbyen it's 1) too cold, 2) too small, 3) apparently even more expensive than here, 4) as for citizenship, one less right, and 5) even more expensive and troublesome to move anywhere compared to the already expensive and troublesome Tromsø. I have a job offer there now, but am really struggling to accept it.

    • @Robdoesitall
      @Robdoesitall  4 місяці тому +1

      If you’re thriving in tromsø, stay there. Why leave somewhere that you are thriving?

      @@Robdoesitall True. Only reason is that I am looking for a job at the moment, and found a suitable project on Svalbard. Haven't really looked much here in Tromsø though. Leaving Tromsø will be painful, and though Svalbard for me would be fabulous to visit, living there is a different thing. Thanks for answering, and I look forward to reading your book 🙂

    It would be a good temp getaway but i get bored so it would be hard. I live in 1200 population town and I hate it. If it were Norway in general my ass would be long gone. Svalbard is only option I'm unskilled. It's visa-free. How did you move to Norway being an Amercian? It's so hard to do. I loved Norway though.

      You only have to carry a firearm when you go outside Longyearbyen town. I believe they have road signs that tell you from that point on you need to carry a rifle. Rifles are only for protection from polar bears. Since polar bears are multilingual, you need to yell at them to stay away first.
