You have great common sense! Why didn’t I ever think of that?! I’m a follow a pattern kinda girl. Not a make up on my own. I’m so thankful for crafters like you!
Thank you! When I get around to make something for myself I will definitely try this! It looks like lots of fun and oh so practical for the winter months! ❤️
Wow wow! I'm new to crochet & just really struggling with some of these techniques. Thanx to your tut I believe I will actually be able to manage this with practice. It's on my 2019 'goals' list for many new things including learning some more knitting & crafting stuff. Thank you, Margaret for your most helpful approaches :D
The concept of a messy bun hat is simple but that ring could be a bit fiddly if you're just staring out. Begin with that regular pattern first then go crazy!
I am beginning to learn how to make crochet hats now. Its so exciting to do an old idea into a new one. In other words, the more I know the better I'll become...Its taken me far too long to understand crochet patterns because I can follow along with the help a tutorial its easier for me to understand. I wrote everything down for my own personal notes and a question, which type of yarn is better for hat making? Acrylic? Or cotton? Or does it matter the yarn? I am still experimenting with the yarns for hat making. This is very helpful tutorial and reference because I keep it in my personal journal patterns.
All my tutorials seem to include "guided pattern reading" so you can eventually learn to read patterns. Once you do, a whole new world opens to you! Cotton is not my favorite for hats but that's just me. (They're not stretchy and if they get wet, they take too long to dry and the person will freeze!) Excellent question! I would go with wool (there are plenty on non-scratchy options) Here I'm talking about the pros/cons of wool and acrylic with explanations of how each type behaves: ua-cam.com/video/CFoZpMAR8To/v-deo.html
Can't wait to try this hat for my granddaughter, and the baby-size hat for my 18" dolls. Should be so cute!
Sounds fun! (And it's so easy to do!)
This makes a lot of sense. I was thinking that - so just needed this confirmation.

Hi Margaret,
Love the hat.
Are you planning any more videos on addi projects?
I always think I would love to do more Addi videos but I'm not a fount of ideas and inspiration! I'll strike when the iron is hot!
Cute idea. Thanks for sharing.

Great ideas!!!
In terms of making a messy bun beanie for a runner, do you think there is a better yarn to use for people who get extra sweaty while active?
Excellent question! I would go with wool (there are plenty on non-scratchy options) Here I'm talking about the pros/cons of wool and acrylic with explanations of how each type behaves: ua-cam.com/video/CFoZpMAR8To/v-deo.html
Can this be made on the addi express?
Of course! The concept is to simply leave a hole at the top of any hat pattern. Make an Addi hat but just don't close the hole up all the way!
