I have a lot of feelings re: ace attorney and the many, many parallels it likes to draw between the main case, especially during the first game. Phoenix being saved by Edgeworth and Mia, and him later saving Maya and Edgeworth in return... it gets me every time, yall. SO I made an animatic/pmv to help exorcise my emotions!!
Not quite as finished/refined as I'd have liked when I initially started it, but I'm happy enough with it to post~

i am not ashamed to admit that the parallel between mia saving phoenix and phoenix saving maya made me burst into tears

Okay I really don’t think this was your purpose but when we’re seeing Phoenix and Edgeworth growing at 2:00 and it goes from sketchy to completely colored it really added a little symbolism that is sure you didn’t mean but I liked! Like the past seems sketchy and hard to remember because it’s been so long for both of them

I love that even in greyscale you got across that your Phoenix is heterochromatic, genuinely kind of impressive how visible it is in every expression 😅
The part where Mia falls backward and Phoenix tries to grab her hand killed me in one shot, I love this animatic so much.

The scene of Phoenix reaching for Mia, but grabbing Maya instead, the parallels of Mia saving Phoenix, and Phoenix saving Maya... It gets me every time.
This was beautiful. I love the way you portray Phoenix's relationships with Mia, Maya and Miles. It was stunning. So moving and really captured the emotions of these characters emotional stories. Also, I noticed the heterochromia Phoenix Wright and let me tell you I would die for that headcannon, I'm loving that more people are using it. Once again, this was amazing.

EDIT Sept/3/2021: I believe it is important to state that this is absolutely the best Two Birds animatic I have ever seen. The way that it puts the same lyrics in different lights, (especially the line "He's just a liar,") is just amazing.
Also, props to you, DisappearedSock, for making the story in Ace Attorney for seeming way better than it actually is!
P.S. not liking the story in Ace Attorney is one hot take I will NOT elaborate on.

This actually made me realise the true impact Mias death would have had one Phoenix, I feel like they glossed over it in the games and that Mia not being able to be channeled or come back as a ghost would be a more interesting concept!

Honestly, everything with Mia breaks my heart in this... ESPECIALLY that second verse and chorus.
To be honest, I'm pretty sure everybody here was screeching the entire time like some sort of parrot in pain everytime Phoenix and Miles were in the same frame

I played ace attorney when I was younger on the ds, and I've always felt bad for phoenix and happy for Edgeworth, but now I've seen justice for all and I feel bad for them both. Thanks for the nostalgia

This is an absolute masterpiece, when you put the characters to a certain section of the song, it just, FIT them, and my most favorite part is mia saying, "I'm tired" because I was wondering how you would do her dead, and I thought that was perfect. I love it 100 out of 10

This is my favorite part of the animatic, as it started with a sketch of Miles and Phoenix as kids, before it gradually gets outlines as the two grew older until its fully outlined and color with the two now adults. I’m sure it has a double meaning but I can’t figure that out yet. Keep up the good work!
Edit: I think I get it! It started with the sketch of the two happy and being the best of friends, then as the outlines appear, they slowly drift apart, as if the outlines represent something like a bad memory or moment in their lives. When it’s completely done with the color, they meet each other again, now conflicted and unsure how to react to see someone they knew as a friend, being portrayed as a villain of sorts.
Basically the short version is that it started rough but bright, like sketch and ends more define but slightly dull or dark, like the complete artwork.
(Sorry the Essay, i just wanna share my opinion on it)

this is amazing omg 😭🥺 mia’s death and edgeworth’s trials were the most emotional parts for me... and the way he and phoenix were each the first bird but at different times in their lives.. this whole thing is brilliant
I like how this highlights just how much Phoenix also went through in the game. His best "friend" left him, he had a psycho girlfriend who tried to frame him for murder, he lost Mia (bless her heart), he got his "friend" back who faked his death and he had to deal with cases involving Engarde and Iris. Poor guy...

What if college age Pheonix's case wasn't prosecuted by Winston Payne, but was instead assigned to Edgeworth
Yeah, the idea my friend and I had (although a little joking xD) is that Edgeworth might end up shooting Dahlia himself out of sheer anger and protectiveness
this made me cry 😭 i love the parallels, at the start Phoenix is the bird on the wire and miles inspires him to let go, and then at the end miles is the one who needs phoenix to encourage him to let go. Im so emo 😭 and Mia at the end ugh it's just so lovely thank u for making this

This animatic not only made me cry (multiple times... why Mia?!) but got me addicted to this song. The animatic so so well put together and highlights the first game (and some of the third) so well! Thank you so much for blessing my eyes with this ace attorney content! Now if you’ll excuse me I have to watch this 10 more times.

I spotted that heterochromia Phoenix- I really enjoy that headcannon so it brings a smile to my face to see more people use it :) I also loved the portrayal of the different friendships and all the dynamic expressions you used! Awesome animatic!!
This is probably one of my favorite animatics ever the way you manage to capture not only what Edgeworth and Phoenix’s relationship is like in the first game perfectly to a song that is hard to match up for its full runtime but also are able to add the heart wrenching stuff with maya and mia. It’s just so good

I just streamed my first experience with the Phoenix Wright games. I have so fallen in love with the series so far! It was so hard waiting until I finished Ace Attorney to look for amvs or parodies. This was perfect. One of the viewers even recommended the musical to me - it was gold. Pure Fan-lovin Gold
Ok I'm back but can I just talk about how good 0:21-0:27 and Maya's trial was? The first gave me chills and the second made my heart compress.
There's so many brilliant stylistic choices in this piece. That one scene where Phoenix is reaching down to catch Mia and catches Maya instead. The way Phoenix and Edgeworth become more defined as they get older in the "birds of a feather" scene. The constant change of expressions during the final 'celebration.' In combination with the cool and unique art style, it makes for a gorgeous animatic. Thank you for posting this!

I saw this a couple months ago when I had first finished the first 3 games and really loved it but I don't think I left a comment and even if I did I already know it wasn't enough because literally. Every. Time. That I think about the first game in this series/this song/sometimes just Phoenix Wright in general, I think about this vid. The part in the second chorus where it's like "and the other says 'I'm tired'" and Mia falls, and Phoenix's face as he goes to catch her and it's Maya, and the way the look at each other, it makes my heart fucking melt, that part of this video is literally inscribed in my brain now and it just makes me so emo, I love it so much.
