I didn't think these would be the characters I'd inevitably storyboard this song to but the vibes just felt right.
This came about from the idea that with Julieta being the perfect child and taking up most of their mother's attention, Bruno and Pepa would have been more close, but that relationship would start to strain once Alma's attention started focusing on Pepa too.
Basically, I'm a sucker for sibling dynamics. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Almost all her smiles before the house cracks feel so forced. I can relate so hard, and I always hate smiling for family photos because it feels like I'm faking it :(

this is so emotional to me. like, pepa and bruno being close when they were young but as they grew she began to doubt him. then when he leaves shes distraught because she kind of blames herself. like, the pain of him going is so big that she refuses to even talk about him. its easier to be angry than deal with the pain. plus, she had to push her emotions down ever since she was young so she cant process her guilt and sorrow.
i just love this storyline. like, bruno leaving and pepa frantically running up the stairs gets me every time. its drawn so well, wow
also bc Julietta is both more of a quiet type than the other two, as well as the implied favourite child due to her personality and gift, so it would make sense that Pepa and Bruno would've had the strongest bond out of the three with something like that to (subconsciously) bond over

1) the last panel all on its own was enough to make me almost cry
2) this made me realize that it makes sense for pepa and bruno to be really close, since I imagine julieta would be filling the role of “second parent” and a kinda helper to abuela when building the village. As the eldest (if I remember right) and the one with the most useful gift, she would be put to work almost immediately, leaving bruno and pepa to become bbfs on their own
I mean they are triplets, so the older thing is more a manner of minutes/hours XD Her kids are older than Pepa's though so she definitely has the "eldest sibling being nurturing" vibe!

Makes sense. Always thought why even though Pepa is always stressed because of her gift, Julieta just looks, rough. Like in the movie you can see bags under Bruno and Pepa's eyes, but Julieta constantly looks tired, drained, and already has a good amount of grey in her hair compared to her siblings.
Julieta gives off this hard working character vibe, which honestly makes sense why she chose Agustin to be her husband. He's goofy, listens to her, and helps comfort her often, like in that deleted scene where they were dancing together. They balance each other out, just like Pepa and her husband.

I said that because I'm pretty sure I read it in the official twitter. I think it was twitter but I don't really use social media. There was a day when I scrolled through a lot of the official answers. I'll try to find it. Not sure exactly where it was but I'm sure it was officialy answered somewhere.

I don't often cry over animatics, comics etc. But this had me full blown sobbing for a good few minutes. This was a wonderful piece of work, I really adored this. The whole "I'm sorry" bit with Pepa storming was def a fav part.

Bruno loves thunder and rain.
Bruno has a slight enhanced intuition, he uses it to sense Pepa’s emotions to warn her for thunder. On her wedding day, he used it, but it tripped her off the edge after Abuela’s nagging.

I- You made this so well, it fits them so well. I hate when people are like "pepa doesn't deserve his forgiveness " I feel like they don't realize how close they were or how much it must've hurt losing him.
This animatic shows their relationship so well to the point I think this could be the canon. I wanna congratulate you on making an emotional master piece. I thank you for your work
I originally thought Pepa was just kind of unpleasant from a friend describing her, but seeing the movie and how EAGER she is to actually talk about Bruno, how she freaks out when Alma says "you have a cloud" and how happy she and Juiletta (and Augustin ^0^) are when they see Bruno again, it made me happy that all the charcaters have so much depth even without all having tons of screen time for each of them. And I love the way it's so easy to see reflections of them in each other. Camilo sounds similar to young 'mischevious' Bruno, yet you see a lot of Felix's enthusiastic nature in him. Dolores and Julietta seem to be very mellow people who don't attract as much attention as their more turbulent relatives.
i think when some one first hear the song we don’t talk about bruno they might thing it becouse the hated him or they were mad at him but i think it was more that it was sad topic to talk about that he was not there and they did not know comply know why he left and i’m sure some of them might of blame the self for not bing there for him more
Yeah and some part of me was like maybe she doesn't want to talk about bruno because she deosn't want to think about him. It hurts to remember everything again. I feel like she is constantly being told to or feeling like she has to push down her feelings so she wanted to do everything to not think of him again because it hurt her.

No wonder pepa was the first to hug Bruno when he came, even if it was just by a little bit. She also looked more emotional than surprised when he came back at the end of encanto, as if she never let go and sort of all ways kept hope that he would have come back. She was also other first one to tell mirabel not to talk about him in “we don’t talk about Bruno”, and in this case might have faked that it was because he crashed her wedding accidentally, but really it was because she really wanted him back deep down. (JUST A HEAd CANNON IDK)

i remember someone talking about the reason why Pepa was the first to bring up "we don't talk about Bruno" was because she had been telling herself that exact phrase ever since he was gone as a coping mechanism(?), since as long as she tells herself to stop thinking about him, she wouldn't feel sad from the fact that he's gone and thus the clouds wouldn't form
This is such an amazing animatic!! I always love content with the triplets with their dynamics and their own trauma. I love the idea that Pepa and Bruno were closer because Alma favored Julieta more. Also even though Julieta wasn’t the focus in this I always had a feeling she went through what Isabella went through being seen as the “perfect” one which caused her to not be as close to Pepa and Bruno. All of this makes a dynamic sorta like how Luisa and Mirabel are closer than Isabella is to either of them.

I never really imagined such a close relationship between Bruno and Pepa, but there may be a reason. Due to her character, personality and gift, Julieta would not be so corrected by her mother, she could have been the favorite for a while, which made Pepa and Bruno very close, honestly, although I imagine the three of them as the inseparable trio of children they are also very likely that it was only part of the two of them.

I think it can be so easy to forget that Bruno left when he was 40, and spent most of his life in the family. An amazing, heartbreaking animatic, I loved every second of it.

If encanto gets a tv show I want pepa and bruno to just be absolute besties, yeah julieta is also there cause their triplets but I just wanna see these two have this "two siblings plotting something against their sibling" kinda vibe cause I feel like they were intact this when they were younger and I be dammed if their not

Fantastic introspective on the triplets' dynamics, on julieta being the favourite child which left pepa and bruno to support each other, and then bruno and pepa having a wedge driven between them because of the wedding incident. the last shot broke me. I'm sobbing for real. incredible.)
This has broken me in ways unimaginable to mankind. I will never emotionally recover from this and for that, I thank you. I'm also incredibly impressed you managed to animate the whole song and with such amazing detail too, you're a full blown deity

Pepa is my favourite character 😭😭😭😭😭😭 during the end when Bruno says “let it in let it out let it rain let it snow let it go” makes me think that before felix of course, he was her only real support (and julieta obviously but i feel like bruno related to her on a level julieta didn’t) and when he left i can only imagine how much it hurt
now draw them reuniting and being happy together again to cure my angst after this animatic broke my heart

This is so good! This is the thing i have Been missing in this fandom. Pepa and Bruno relationship. People seems to assume that they werent too close but i simply dont think Thats possible.
Arguments are that Pepa was the one who said „we dont talk about Bruno” while Julieta didnt speak badly about jer brother. I always felt that she say „we dont talk about Bruno” not because she hated him for his visions.(i think she sang about her wedding to give Mirabel an idea about how his powers work, not because she was holding such a big grudge) I think she said it, because his name braught too much pain. And Pepa is the person who has to be most careful with her feelings. She couldnt forgive Bruno for leaving until she saw him again. Unlike, calm and reasoning Julieta, she is very emotianal and of strony opinions, she didnt think much about why he Did that (like her sister) she jest couldnt bare the fact that her only brother left her.
Julieta was in too much pain to let him go pepa to but here’s the thing Julieta always checked up on pepa so she wouldn’t be alone. Ps what if Bruno and Julieta died

I am in awe! I had never really considered the depth of Pepa and Bruno but wow did this open my eyes. And it's so amazingly beautifully drawn as well! Expressive, full of motion and life! Well done, I'm going to watch it a few more times now
This is gold! Makes total sense for them to be close and then grow apart as Abuela starts to expect more from Pepa and Bruno just makes his own way not wanting any of this. Eventually they become distant because Bruno is now seen as bad luck and Pepa wanting to make her mom proud just keeps her distance from him. But when he’s gone she instantly regrets it and to not suffer his loss she transforms her sadness into range focusing only on the things he did that made her upset like “ruining” her wedding
It's so good! It makes sense that they would have a special connection since both their gifts weren't seen as as helpful as Julietta's.
I especially liked the moment with a rat, when Pepa smiled because Antonio's love for animals reminded her of her brother. It was very sweet.

Although dont get me wrong this is a beautiful animatic giving insight to pepas and brunos relationship, but i really do wish we got to see some of Julieta's perspective. I feel like if she would have to grow up early then she would start having a sort of motherly love towards her siblings (motherly is best way i can explain it). Pepa and Bruno i feel like they would be close in the way you interpreted it definitely, as friends, playmates, *siblings*, but as many others have mentioned with Julieta having to have the role beibg so nurturing, and hardworking causing her to develop those feelings earlier would cause her to act like that towards her siblings as well just a thought

Generally, this is just very amazing, and I have the sudden urge to rewatch it multiple times.
From the fact that Peppa was the first to hug Bruno and that she hugged him very hard, I had already concluded that Peppa and Bruno had a very close relationship with each other since Julieta was the golden child!
But after seeing this animatic, I'm glad I'm not the only one to have this point of view!
