Neil wrote most of the lyrics to the songs and as successful as he was as a musician he was an incredible author . He has many books about his motorcycle adventures between shows and discusses in depth his time with Rush and the meaning behind a lot of the songs.Ghost Rider was an amazing but sad tale of losing his daughter and wife. RIP Neil
Aimee Mann is the lead singer/bassist of 80’s pop band, ‘Til Tuesday, and this is one of the only times Rush had a guest vocalist on one of their songs. Aimee is a pretty accomplished bass player as well and a great song writer.
This came out in 1988. They’re ages around this time are in their early-to-mid 30’s around this era. The video was hi-res state of the art fashionable yet unique at the time, thus is wayyy before HD TVs were even thought of so it was shot with crisp technology but the concept and goofy movements and spins have the director all to blame. It does look at tad cheesy and dated somewhat nowadays. Fun fact: Alex Lifeson (Rush’s guitarist) plays the keyboards for this song when performed live in concert. Also, the drummer/percussionist is the G.O.A.T. Mr. Neil Peart. FYI, his name is pronounced PEE-Art, not Pert.
Aimee Man was the bassist and singer of Til Tuesday, best known for the song "Voices Carry." She went solo and was best known for playing all the songs in the movie Magnolia.
Aimee Mann from a band called: TILL TUESDAY guests sings with Geddy on this track! She lead sings for her band! Check out their big smash called: VOICES CARRY!
One of my fav "Neil Peart" performances shows up in the concert DVD: Rush live in Rio during the song "Earthshine" . Love that song...the drum kit shakes; he twirls the sticks....tosses them. So cool .
This song is from their 1987 album "Hold Your Fire", and the female singer in the video is Aimee Mann from the group Til Tuesday. Their big single was the 1985 hit "Voices Carry".
Rush are legends. You will see them at many different ages since they had a career spanning more than 40 years. Rush loved to use odd time signatures. Geddy was once asked what his favorite time signature was and he answered, “I’m in Rush, so of course it’s 7/8…”. The entire bridge of this song is played in 7/8 time signature. If you count with it, it will rotate after every 7 note. No other band could go so smoothly into odd and even time signature and not feel funky. These guys could do it all day long and usually did since their concerts were over three hours long with no opening act, just all Rush. I first saw them in 1980 on their Permeant Waves tour and never missed a tour since then. Throughout the 80s and 90s, they had opening bands perform first, but they took a 5 year hiatus after drummer extraordinaire Neil Peart suffered a series of devastating events. First his teenage daughter was killed in an automobile accident, then 6 months later, his wife died from cancer. When they came back with their release Vapor Trails, they no longer had an opening act. That meant they would play for three hours by themselves, only having a short intermission to give Neil a rest. During that time, Alex and Geddy would strap on some acoustics and plays some unplugged numbers. It really saddens me that younger fans, like yourself, will never get a chance to see them live because they were incredible. No other band put on a performance like thee three guys. It always sounded like 6 people were up on stage, but everything came from just the three. They worked harder than any other band. Each of the, playing multiple instruments live. Geddy singing, ripping the bass while playing keyboards with his feet via Taurus pedals. The female singer in this video is Amiee Man, an accomplished vocalist herself. Aimee was also from Canada, so it fits. I guess they were all good friends. This was the only song that Rush ever had another singer contribute on.
One of my favorite songs by RUSH, but the video I can do without! The female singer is Aimee Mann who fronted the band, 'Till Tuesday in the 80's and later went on with a solo career. This video came out in the later 80's. Thanks much for this one!😊
This was made during the heyday of MTV. Had to make a video for everything. Look up Neil's drum solo from Frankfurt, and brace yourself. Love your shirt!! Be Blessed gentlemen.
Aimee Man was the bassist and singer of Til Tuesday, best known for the song "Voices Carry." She went solo and was best known for playing all the songs in the movie Magn[ li.
Time Stand Sti!! . Love the meaning of this one. Saddens me because I'm growing older and the end is getting nearer. Don't waste your time, it will slip faster than you think.
The song is from the Hold Your Fire album from 1987 so this video is probably the same year. Aimee Mann is the lady singing she was in a band named Til Tuesday around that time also. You can’t go wrong with Rush!
I saw this tour (Hold Your Fire) in 1987 at Joe Loius Arena in Detroit, MI. My sophomore year in High School. Seen them 8 times through the years. Check out Hold Your Fire and MIssion from this album. Great Songs!!
The girl singing is Aimee Mann. Check out her band Til Tuesday - Voices Carry. It's an amazing song. It's about domestic abuse. Aimee has a great voice.
*Check out "Red Sector A", and pay attention to the lyrics.* *Y'all didn't comment on the lyrics of this song, so check it out again, to gain more appreciation for it.*
As a non-drummer (guitarist) I love Neil for his lyrics even smore than his playing. The most ingenious line from the song - "all these wounds I can't get unwound" using the exact same word for both of its meanings in the same line. Any of the songs from the mid-80's and up are much better either seeing the live shows from that era, or the lyrical studio version of. I really can't overstate how vital Neil's poetry on these tracks from 1982-1994 are!
Aimee Mann was the vocalist. She is AMAZING! Check out Voices Carry - Till Tuesday or Save Me by Aimee Mann from the Magnolia Soundtrack. The video was not good by 80s standards either. Great song!
Rush's music was so out there that I think a lot of video directors and creatives probably had no idea what to do video wise. But they did hit the nail on the head with Subdivisions, The Pass, Afterimage, and Mystic Rhythms (a pretty trippy video directed by Gerald Casale, the bass player from Devo). I think the video for Nobody's Hero had a fantastic idea, but just didn't reach it. Lyric wise, this song will be much more awesome for you guys in 30 or 40 years....
1st and foremost Rush is all about the music, nothing else matters as much. Today’s popular music is all about entertainment, (hype)not music. I can’t tell the difference between entertainers, they all sound the same. I don’t usually hear any actual instruments being played either. Most of them use the same keys to sing to. Hype is way overrated today and the people going for it are ignorant of real musicians. I’ll stick with the genuine articles that came in the decades 60, 70, mostly and some from the 80, 90.
Lol right? One iPod in one ear. Lol. Need to have a 5.1 tweeters, mid and sub that thumps you in the chest. Lol. Different appreciation!! They need to upgrade their equipment and re do. That hopping base and kick bass need to be felt!!
ua-cam.com/video/6XPrNGpzeGI/v-deo.html If you want to see what Neil can do on the drums, here you go. This starts out as an instrumental & then Neil takes centre stage. Pay attention to his feet because the independence from his hands is unreal. The tambourine sound you will hear is controlled by his left foot. He has 5 pedals to use, 4 of which are on his left side. He also uses his left to change triggers for different sounds along with the electronic keyboard. I would be very interested to see your reaction to this.
Rush like to stay on the cutting edge of music technology and in this case video tech…As you can see this video was very early in the onset of green screen and did not age well. Still Peart drumming intensity makes it worth a watch… pay special attention to how he varies every drum fill for complexity and nuance where most drummers would just play the same one over and over…
Love the video or hate it, their quirkiness is what makes Rush Rush, they always moved to a different beat and were never scared to try new things even if nobody else seemed to get it and they are more interesting and revered for it. This was near the start of music video channels like MTV and Much Music so putting visuals to their songs was kind of hit and miss, although I will say that another one of their songs, done around the same time, Distant Early Warning, that has a kid riding on a missile, is very similar to this but a lot more professional looking imo.
Niels drumming is always so melodic and perfect for every part. I’d suggest if you want to here another incredible classic , Red Barchetta If you want to hear something from them I think you absolutely would not expect being newer fans, Far Cry from their 2007 album Snakes and Arrows , that’s a hard hitter . Loving the rush love here guys !
The woman is Aimee Mann of the 80's band Til Tuesday. And yeah, the video is cheesy as heck. But Rush weren't very interested in the idea of "starting" in their own videos. It's not who they were. I'm going to suggest you check out "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" from the 1975 LP Fly By Night. From what I have heard you saying so far, this song might just fire your imaginations.
We love Amy. Funny, the technology was cheesey compared to now, but the music you poor guys have now a days really sucks, and no tech can cover for no talent.
😂😂 As a RUSH fan, I must say you guys aren't wrong, this isn't RUSH at their "coolest" lol. In their defence, that whole era was a pretty uncool time in fashion history, hind sight wise (certainly in my opinion and I'm sure many others). Musicianship top notch though. Some will say the keyboards were a bit too much part of their sound in that era, some loved it, some prefer older RUSH. I love it all. One thing is for sure, they've always been incredible writers and musicians no matter the era. Their wardrobe however, a few serious misses 😂😂🤘🏼
Intellect isn't always sexy or pretty. Sometimes intellect is more sexy and or pretty than real life. IDK how to make anyone make sense of what I just said. It just is what it is if you lived it and know it or of it. Respect, dignity, honor, love, understanding of things even when disagreeing. Love of love is good but it is my single opinion :)
It was a really lame and cheesy video Even when it came out, I believe in '87. It made me embarrassed to be a Rush fan when this thing was constantly playing on MTV everybody thought it was a bad video even if the song was pretty cool. And don't worry guys this is the only time they had an outside singer come in and join them. This is off of The Hold Your Fire album which I and many Rush fans considered to be the low point of their career. This was the only hit song on the album as far as I know. And it's probably the only album in their collection that I don't plan on owning. Even though I already own 16 of their 20 albums it's going to end up being only 19 in the end.
Aimee Man was the bassist and singer of Til Tuesday, best known for the song "Voices Carry." She went solo and was best known for playing all the songs in the movie Magn[ li.
I’m 57 now and this song really hits you as you get older! Saw Rush 13 times over the years.
Neil's drumming on this is highly overlooked. The ways he chops up the beats are insane.

My # 1 RUSH song!

This video came out in September of 1987 and was played often on MTV throughout ‘87 & ‘88.
This song is from their 1987 album "Hold Your Fire", and the female singer in the video is Aimee Mann from the group Til Tuesday. Their big single was the 1985 hit "Voices Carry".
Amy Mann is the lady and she sing great. TILL TUESDAY
Neil Peart - Live in Frankfurt will blow your mind , best drum solo ever

Yeah the video kinda flops. But i really like Aimee Manns harmonies.

Greatest drummer of all time

Neil Peart live in Frankfurt. Incredible!!!!!!!
MTV first aired August 1, 1981, the videos in the 80's were still experimental. This is one of those "experimental" videos.
As a non-drummer (guitarist) I love Neil for his lyrics even smore than his playing. Need to do Natural Science Studio version , get ready for a ride
Aimee Mann was the vocalist. She is AMAZING! Check out Voices Carry - Till Tuesday or Save Me by Aimee Mann from the Magnolia Soundtrack. The video was not good by 80s standards either. Great song!
The Big Money from the Power Windows album. Do the official video. 80's Rush at its best:)
Some of Geddy's best bass work from that era
Rush's music was so out there that I think a lot of video directors and creatives probably had no idea what to do video wise. I always thought this video was goofing on something as only Rush could. There must be a backstory.
Love the video or hate it, their quirkiness is what makes Rush Rush, they always moved to a different beat and were never scared to try new things even if nobody else seemed to get it and they are more interesting and revered for it. I'm 50 years old you got to check out Pearl Jam porch pinkpop 1992 or any song from the MTV Unplugged 1992
Niels drumming is always so melodic and perfect for every part. I’d suggest if you want to here another incredible classic , Red Barchetta
If you want to hear something from them I think you absolutely would not expect being newer fans, Far Cry from their 2007 album Snakes and Arrows , that’s a hard hitter . Loving the rush love here guys !
Have you done til Tuesday?
Good song!
You may need to reach middle age to appeciate the lyrics. Neil wrote great ones as always.
Fire!!!
And bro what are you even talking about Aimee Mann is incredible!

"Was this a cool video?" No. Rush is not known for their cool videos. This came out in 1987, I think.

Its cheesy, even back then. Late 80s - 1987, I believe
I've always loved this song but hated the video.
1987 Great song... terrible video😂
I agree- and I love Aimee...but I'm with you- it's a bad video..I understand that a lot of bands were doing this kind of stuff around this time period
you guys are too young to understand!!! 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
It is most definitely a bizarre video.
This video was NEVER cool, lol! You’re witnessing the birth of digital video editing technology that hat someone got carried away with.
Terrible video. Great song. 1987 or 1988.
Great song, not so much the music video.
