First. Could you make a video about the history of a specific manufacturer? This would cover their first ride, their struggles, strengths, accidents and stuff like that. For example: RMC it would cover their greatest strengths, accidents, struggles, etc.
The Rainbow at Elitch Gardens was basically my favorite thing in the world for a number of years. I remember being so fascinated with how big the gondola was and how fast it moved as a kid, and the airtime with those minimal restraints was insane.
I rode that thing when a friend invited me to go with his family. Saw it on TV and thought it would be awesome to ride. Nope, it scared the crap out of me. I think I was 10 or 11 at the time. This was back in the 80's. I remember it being right by the entrance to the park.
I was on Liseberg at the moment the accident happend. The attraction passed the inspection that day. I dont know how many hour/cycles it was classed for but it broken about 50% in to it lifetime. Rainbow was removed and got scrapped after the accidents. There where no deaths in the accident. The straff was amazing good to help all guest and rescue workers. They where and still are trained what to do if something happend like an accident that are very rare.
Yes, it's good to have Flat Ride Of The Week back for another season! Since you signed off season 2, I've basically been following another YT channel primarily about coasters, but my heart really feels most strongly about flat rides. 👍
I've rode every version of this ride, including the Western Themed ride. I remember, back in the day, when one would come to our local fair, the rumor always started that it fell backwards on the first night of the fair. Obviously that never happened, but the rumor always came out. Such a fun ride that I wish more were operating today.
I ❤ Rainbow rides. Used to be 1 here in my town when it was carnaval ( famous carnaval Aalst Belgium). When I was a kid in the 90s I went on it each time they stood here on the fair. 😊
I remember when the Great Escape had their rainbow ride. I always wanted to ride it when I was young, but I wasn't tall enough. When I was eventually tall enough, the ride's days at the park were numbered, and it was dismantled and thrown behind Desperado Plunge. I wonder if this is the reason I love forward facing 1001 Nauts rides so much. I haven't ridden one for a while as the Arizona State Fair is being stupid and not offerring the unlimited wrist band anymore, but I have great memories experiencing the forward facing 1001 Nauts rides at different fairs. You get swayed back and forth, and get some great floater airtime. Such a fun ride, and some of the fairs I've been to, you can get some great views from it.
I rode my only Rainbow in Legendia, Poland. I was alone. Not in the seat, not in the row, but in the whole ride! It was amazing, I loved the weightlessness and the shuffling from side to side made me giggle.
I'm happy to know the only model with 8 rows facing the center is actually at my local amuesment park. Haven't rode it since 2017 but it was always my favorite. It hasn't operated in a few years mainly since covid with staffing issues. Possibly site l due to parts availability as well. When it breaks, it's normally down for the season but it is rare it breaks down.
The 1001 Nacht on German fairs is an awesome family thrill ride which looks beautiful and is just plain fun to ride 😊 I have never been on a Rainbow, but it is high on my bucket list of flatrides 😏
I rode the Wade Shows Rainbow and have seen Strates and Reithoffer Rainbow in the past too. I remember Deggeller and I believe Conklin having a 1001 Nacht.
The Myrtle Beach Pavilion had a Rainbow at the front corner of the park, right across from Ripley's. As a kid who was scared of heights, I never had the nerve to ride it, but there's nothing I wouldn't give for the shot to ride one today. Thanks for sharing this video. Though I never rode the Rainbow, seeing it on screen brought back a lot of fun memories.
Just found this page...Awesome!!!! I had a Rainbow at one of my home parks(Elitch Gardens) and it was incredible!!!!! Our Rainbow was on a 10-15ft platform so it was that much taller. The ride operators seemed like they were trying to see how long they could keep us out of our seats...LOL It was just as popular as one of the roller coasters when it came to the park. Was truly sad when they had to remove it.
I've had the pleasure riding a Huss Rainbow back in the late '80's early '90's at a now defunct park in Niagara Falls, Canada called Maple Leaf Village, I remember the awesome airtime on that ride. I also rode a Chance Falling Star at Carowinds when it was named Gauntlet, I don't think that ride gave as much airtime as the Rainbow did. And lastly, I rode Da Vinci's Cradle back in '92 at BGW.
The traveling showman that brings the rides to local fall fairs in my area in Canada had a Rainbow at least until a few years back (maybe 2017?). I've since moved to a new area, so Idk if it is still in service. I think the one I remember was a knock-off of Huss' Rainbow design though; it was called Rainbow and had a sun with a face at the centre of the arm, but it had rows of individual seats with over-the-shoulder restraints and the sun graphic was smaller & designed without lights. Each year, it often got placed right next to a Wisdom-made Avalanche. The Rainbow was in ROUGH shape, the last time I saw it. Like noticeably rough; it rattled way more than any other flat ride brought to the event, at least a 1/4 of the lights were burnt out or just missing. And about 3-4 seats were unusable, with their restraints blocked off and actaully partially "pinned" down with duct tape. Like It wasn't just a case of marking the seats as unusable to guests, the tape actually looped around the bars and whatever the seat back mounted to...Even if the tape was part of keeping the (apparently) indivdually malfunctioning restraints in a locked position and perfectly safe, it doesn't instill confidence. With Avalanche being a similar G-force experience (albeit one with much less height thrill) and sitting next to the Rainbow, and clearly in much better shape, the Rainbow often ran with almost no line-up...it was sad.
I've only ridden one Rainbow, and it happened to be the one at Liseberg (obviously before the accident) - the ride itself did not look intense from the ground, but the sliding back and forth proved otherwise. I also rode the 1001 Nacht at Knoebel's, but since that ride had transverse seating, it was a different experience.
The only Rainbow we had in my area was at a park called The Pavilon, now closed, which was in Myrtle Beach, SC. I rode this for the first time at age 7. This park also had a reverchon Matterhorn called The Siberian Sleigh Ride that was awesome. This was our American version of Shakers Matterhorn❤️ I still wonder what happened to that machine till this day!
I had no idea these were so rare! There’s one at my home park, Blue Bayou/Dixie Landin’. One of the most fun rides in the park, along with their Vekoma Boomerang.

Never rode by myself again, and I haven't seen it out there in several years, so I guess they took it out of circulation.
I rode a rainbow at the Delaware State Fair like several years ago, maybe like in 2014 or 15 maybe? Pretty fun ride. It's not an extreme ride, but its more intense than it looks. Its one of those rides that isn't thrilling, but it's just a fun time
This is a core childhood memory for me! I'm from SC, and the pavillion in Myrtle Beach had this ride. It was placed right next to the ocean at the end of the park. I remember I was too little to ride it the first time, and was SO Sad! My older sister and Mom went and I was left behind w my dad. I remember crying lol. But I got to go the next year. As a kid, the lights were SO pretty to me! And the mermaids were so cool lol.
How does the ride platform consistently maintain a horizontal orientation? Is this achieved through the use of a gyroscope system, or is it accomplished through a mechanical mechanism?
i grew up riding a sartori 1001 nights ride and occasionally a rival carnival's ARM 1001 nachts, which are both among my favorite carnival rides ever. if you ever bring this series back i would love to hear about the history of the wisdom avalanche/geewizz ride which is a smaller two arm variation on this concept
My sister used to ride the 1001 Nachts at the fair, though it's now been replaced with a Rockstar. There's no way I'd ever ride this; too intense for me, but I've always thought the Rainbow looked cool.
Playland, an amusement park on Vancouver’s PNE grounds, used to have a Huss Rainbow ride, but I never got to ride it. Loved the way it looked though. Especially the colourful lady statues on either side of the gondola
Have adored this ride since I was a kid. There was a beautiful one at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the 80s and the lighting rig on it was phenomenal. They used to opporate it so fast. Whenever I see videos of it now it's quite slow but back in the day they used to ride it so fast. Does anyone know if there is any opporating in the UK?
Chance Falling Star? It is very similar concept to the Huss rainbow, but it has two sweep arms instead of one and a strange loading and unloading process.
I really feel that you should do a flat ride of the week video on the ARM Rockstar. They are, of course, VERY popular in the US….and so I feel that a lot of people (including myself) would be very interested to learn more about them!
@@CoasterCollege Also if you can, talk about the Chance Falling Star. That is the only similar type I ever got to ride and really enjoyed it. But they must have been a pain to transport or had reliability issues as they seem to have all disappeared.
1001 Nacht ... as a kid, I always called it the "Tut Yacht" Casino Pier once had a 1001 Nacht ride; been a while since those days, though. I know there was one at Knoebels, but it stopped operating the year I first went and is no longer in the park. A local carnival had a Rainbow ride a long, long time ago. I was more scared of that one due to the looser restraint system. Memories ...
@@mymangodfrey yep exact same here lol I've been on free fall rides, tower if tower ride (takes off on a track and climbs vertically before free falling back down) and none of that freaked me out like the dang rainbow ride. My older sister was so embarrassed lol
A very similar ride comes to my local fair every year called the Midnight Madness. It looks like it could be an A.R.M. rockstar variant but its taller? The ride owners claim that Wisdom made it in 1987 but i cant find any evidence of it.
Ooooh! Finally! I've ridden one of the ARM variations of this ride. Funnily enough it's actually named 1001 Nauts (sorry, I can't remember the spelling). Anyway, it's a traveling one that came to my local State Fair yearly. Though, it was a different themed one this year (that I ended up not riding despite it being one of my favorite flat rides). I love the positive G's of this type of ride!
I remember when Knoebels had a 1001 Nacht, This was one of my favorite flat rides at Knoebels, but unfortunately they removed it, I asked a couple of the park operators, they said the hydraulic maintenance was just too costly.
Yees please make a video about the accident! I was obsessed with it when I was a kid and it broke my heart hearing about it on the news.. I had so many questions! Still thinking about it to this day.
Knobels in Elysburg, Pa. used to have 1001 nacht, but it was always not operating and 2021 it was removed. Hershey park in PA had the Conestoga wagon. Very noisy ride
Hershey had a Conestoga Wagon themed one literally called Conestoga. It literally looked like a wagon, complete with a tarp like roof real Conestoga wagons had in the old west.
I rode two 1001 Knights, one in Ocean City Maryland and one at Knoebels. Both are gone. Great ride but if you wean't careful those lapbars would staple you in.
One of my favorite flat rides! Was the first "big" kid ride i rode when i was younger ^^ at least the 1001 nights/nacht version! The one im used to was 2 rows facing forward o: single seats one year tough an operator was a jerk, and kept locking the ride at the top of the circle >:v (he was laughing with a buddy down at the control pannel)
This is probably the most famous and popular ride at my local fair, the Miami-Dade Youth Fair, which also used to have a Doppel Looping (which I never got to ride 😔)
I think I rode the wagon one! The Conestoga in Hershey Park! I was so disappointed that they removed it. Dorney Park also had one called Joker but apparently that one was made by Zamperla.
For whatever reason, I always found the 1001 Nacht a little more intense - regardless of where I rode it and who operated it. The Rainbow was more of a "floater" airtime, while the 1001 Nacht was more "ejector".
After watching this, It is a shame that I actually did miss out on one of the rare Weber ones that being El Dorado which was at Kings Dominion from 2009-2011
I've not ridden a Rainbow or 1001 Nacht, but I've ridden a similar ride, I think it might have been an ARM but I'm not completely sure, it had a flying carpet shape to the gondola but it had a surf theme to it, used to travel with MD based Jolly Shows under the name "Riptide" if anyone has information on that. Although did have an annoying experience on that ride in the past because one time I rode it the ride got stuck at the top for like half an hour, view of the midway was decent but not exactly fun being stuck up there so long lol
zamperler had made something similar it was called a joker we had one are great american in Gurnee called trailblazer and it was fun when i rode it in the 2000's it is no longer in the park anymore but i'm glad i got to ride it when I was a kid. if zamperla brought that model backwith updated technology that would be awesome.
I've ridden one twister by sartori in Canada and it was very intense and powerful. Sartori rmakes ride similar than others by they runs much faster with lighter counterweights.
There was a ARM version named 1001 Nachts funny enough that ran at my local carnival years ago. It was owned by Amusement of America. Idk if it’s still with them
Crazy story about the one in Knoebels : the right used to have their traditional backdrop but some Christians actually complained about the topless woman on the backdrop and so much that they actually and painted over her to make her more modest and eventually removed the backdrop altogether. Also people complained about the gypsies on the ride gondola and they were removed because they claimed the ride was racist even though it came from a country where it wasn’t an issue.
yes there is alot of cometition with this the two most notable zamperla ranger and a.r.m alibaba ride definitly mae a part 2 there is also another model called conastoga wagon chance fallingstar is another one thats rare
@@mr.huuurzuz7746 That's a good question and unfortunately I don't have an accurate answer. I thought I read that it went out West Canada somewhere last I checked. One of my favorite flat rides! Was the first "big" kid ride i rode when i was younger ^^ at least the 1001 nights/nacht version! The one im used to was 2 rows facing forward o: single seats
one year tough an operator was a jerk, and kept locking the ride at the top of the circle >:v (he was laughing with a buddy down at the control pannel)
I would like to know more about what really happened in that accident or detail about the ride
For whatever reason, I always found the 1001 Nacht a little more intense - regardless of where I rode it and who operated it. The Rainbow was more of a "floater" airtime, while the 1001 Nacht was more "ejector".
OMG THE RAINBOW!
used to be my favorite ride!!
After watching this, It is a shame that I actually did miss out on one of the rare Weber ones
that being El Dorado which was at Kings Dominion from 2009-2011
These things were so cool
Interested in the Rockstar Ride
I've not ridden a Rainbow or 1001 Nacht, but I've ridden a similar ride, I think it might have been an ARM but I'm not completely sure, it had a flying carpet shape to the gondola but it had a surf theme to it, used to travel with MD based Jolly Shows under the name "Riptide" if anyone has information on that. Although did have an annoying experience on that ride in the past because one time I rode it the ride got stuck at the top for like half an hour, view of the midway was decent but not exactly fun being stuck up there so long lol
I have seen very similar models as well
zamperler had made something similar it was called a joker we had one are great american in Gurnee called trailblazer and it was fun when i rode it in the 2000's it is no longer in the park anymore but i'm glad i got to ride it when I was a kid.
if zamperla brought that model backwith updated technology that would be awesome.
I've ridden one twister by sartori in Canada and it was very intense and powerful. Sartori rmakes ride similar than others by they runs much faster with lighter counterweights.
Requests:
KMG tango
Zamperla rotoshake
S&S screaming swing
S&S sky swatter
Temproyel giro light
Zamperla nebulaz
And soriani and Moser tornado
There was a ARM version named 1001 Nachts funny enough that ran at my local carnival years ago. It was owned by Amusement of America. Idk if it’s still with them
North American midway still has a arm 1001 night as it's called it comes every year to the Elkhart county fair
They no longer have it
Can we get a rockstar video, I thought they were the same ride.
I’d love to learn more about the accident
I Have Ridden Falling Stars At Castle Park And New Mexico

I love rock star 🌟
Huss and weber where te same company at the time.
Anyone else remember the 1001 Nacht at Knobels? It was awesome so much airtime
@@wolfpackgaming1383 I never knew that! Also pretty sure a dude actually tried to marry the ride as well. What a cursed flat
i think more fair ride what really happened would be awesome!
i’ve seen 1001 nachts and people are always gettting sick on it
yes there is alot of cometition with this the two most notable zamperla ranger and a.r.m alibaba ride definitly mae a part 2 there is also another model called conastoga wagon chance fallingstar is another one thats rare
Why not play the sounds the ride makes? They're very distinct and I remember operating one in Niagara Falls at Maple Leaf Village during the summers.
@@mr.huuurzuz7746 That's a good question and unfortunately I don't have an accurate answer. I thought I read that it went out West Canada somewhere last I checked. I remember our machine being a sturdy beast whereas other Rainbows would have the supports sway a bit - but ours stood firm. Whoever has it has a good ride. I wonder if it's still running?
@@mr.huuurzuz7746 Beats me then. I only worked there as a ride breaker (relieve employee breaks on various rides) and had nothing to do with it's sale.
Yes, talk about the accident on sweden please, the video is shocking
Do you know where to find the video?
