Hey Peter. Regarding the radios you are recommending, officially you should only be using Japanese compliant radios in Japan. They have a special symbol on them that tells you if they are compliant. Western radios are banned as they operate on the same frequency as the TV and emergency services network. If you do a quick Google search you should be able to find more information about it. Just a heads up!

It is the Tecton 12 pin binding. super good binding for touring and deep powder skiing.

Hey, great tips! What about someone that dreams of Japan but is a resort lift skier? Is there great powder skiing in resorts? The videos are deceiving as they show a ski lift but it seems all or most of their video is back country stuff. How good is the powder skiing in the resorts? I realize it can't compare to back country but it is difficult to get a true feel for what Japan is for the guy that doesn't skin and wants to ski off of chair lifts. Thanks!

If it is your first time i Japan, i would recomend staying in Niseko, Hifafu, there are plenty of pow there. and especaly in jauary. Then hire a guide to take you to different resorts. Rusutsu, Moiwa, and undtracked backcountry lines that only are accesseble by foot.
