    Good tutorial. I just started skiing powder w some experienced friend. Started w all mountain skis, the rented powder skis. What a difference. Powder skiing was fun & adventurous.

    Another thing, wear clothes that aren't black, white, green, grown, grey.etc. Very hard to find someone in the snow, when they look like the snow and the debris. Wear bright colors. People can find you quicker, spot you earlier, and it is easier to see you when your tumbling inside an avalanche, so they have a better idea of where you are in the field, when everything comes to a stop. Your easier to see when it is snowing or foggy. Your also less likely to get ran into.

    For anyone wondering about non safety equipment… I just skied park city with decade old thin carving skis, boots with broken buckles, and one of my poles was missing a powder bucket altogether. Leaning back helped me stay afloat. So it was more weight transferring during the ‘pumping’ to lean back to stay afloat and then keep my body pressing down the mountain to attack the turn. Missing a powder bucket on the pole was brutal though ngl.

    Actually I would like to see you more with "normal" renting skis. Since many people will try a little powder without such wide skis. And it would be great to hear some tips without always having the perfect gear.

      Powder is very hard to ski with normal skis. It’s almost just not recommended since they’re not wide enough and sink. Maybe you could ski a light coating but you sink to the bottom and you can’t turn unless you’re going warp speed

    This came a week too late for me! Good tips for the next trip though. I'm an ex uni racer, very confident at skiing anything that's pisted, but I haven't ever received any tips for powder. Went off piste with a friend who is very experienced in off piste riding last week. Found myself going back to being a beginner and sitting back too much on my 62mm race skis :') and creating pressure and torsion on my knees from twisting. Another thing I was surprised by was how much more narrow his stance was compared to mine. The difference in effectiveness of the baskets on the pole was massive as well.

    I like to keep my snacks on the inside pocket of my jacket. That way they stay warm and do not freeze. Its really annoying if you are hungry and want to snack something only to find its rock hard and its takes a while to melt it in your mouth xD

    Thanks for this exhaustive video but i still need some help.. I am a good skier on slope ( I did 6/7 years of races and i left few years ago ), right now I ski around 10 days each season so i don't have too much time and fortune to find good powder condition to improve. The problem every time that I approach powder is that my legs are burning like hell, i feel that am skiing to much backwards but i have no other options to keep the tips of the skis out of the snow, could it be the ski that is 172 cm and 90 mm wide ( I am 185 cm tall) that is too short for me or do you think that it's only my technique that has to be improved?

    • @benshorthouse2979
      @benshorthouse2979 Рік тому +1

      I had the same problem, I went from racing to freeride (once I got sick of racing s and gs) it was exercises I did that helped for the burn, crouching on one leg daily, with the body position I realised instead of staying upright I was so use to carving I was leaning into the hill.
      Do some exercises to strengthen those legs and keep the body position upright while flexing

    You’re not helping me! I’m in VT with 30inch of snow and it’s hard! Also, first off, you didn’t mention your skis! I’m in groomer ski and I’m struggling! Yesterday, I figured out I need to be a bit further back on my skis, too far forward I was head over heels- many times. I found in the tree the best and I literally just jump turned everything.
