American Aston Martin? '66 Malibu: /BIG MUSCLE

A long wheelbase, v8 or v12 power, front engine/rear drive configuration, and a sport-tuned suspension with four comfy seats inside. That ladies and gentlemen is the recipe for any good grand touring car. Modern automobiles like the Mercedes-Benz CL63, BMW M6 and the Bentley Continental GT are perfect examples of this. How about a 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu though - what about that? When released in 1966, this 2nd generation Chevelle was nothing more than a mid-priced, nicely appointed people mover with some decent styling. However now, some 47 years later, owner Enzo Morales has transformed this particular car into a jaw-dropping, hardcore styled road burner that is just as happy running the super-slab at triple digits as it is carving up your favorite back road.
The 66 Chevelle is My favorite Chevy of all time :)
Why don't alot of people like em....I love them
Hands down the best!
I would rather have an america muscle car over an Aston Martin anyway, call me weird if you want
Abso-fricken-lutely! The only reason I would want an Aston Martin, is to sell it and buy more muscle cars.
No I call that American
Always gotta do a burnout for a kid when asked.
No.
Yes.
Yes!!
Mike your New York is showing a little bit.
IM NOT DOIN A BURNOUT FO DA KIDS!
I was thinking the exact same thing as he was discussing it. I didn't actually see the kids ask for a burnout, but the way we used to do it required no words. You simply point each of your index fingers inward, and twirl them in a circle, with each finger being 180° apart in the circle. That was internationally recognized as the "light 'em up" symbol. We would have been GREATLY disappointed if the person driving the muscle car didn't perform the requested burn out. We weren't exactly spoiled as kids, so an occasional burn out request granted, helped to compensate.
You'll be glad to know I literally just found an XB Coupe!! And don't worry, it's a great car with a wonderful owner - the land down under will be represented!
WOW That 1966 car looks better than most of 2006 cars
It is built 47 years ago... and it still looks GREAT
the car scene literally keeps me out of trouble, i was always i trouble, last summer when i was 15 i bought a foxbody, now in this time i am 16 and since almost a year ago now it has a 351 from a bronco that is mildly built making 417/500 on the bottle and i literally put all my money into the car to keep me from other things
Good on you for doing something productive with your time. Hope you're still doing well.
11 second cars to deliver pizzas is not economically sound. But I bet they got there on time.
ai van doesnt matter when you're making $7.25 an hour + tips and gas is a less than a dollar a gallon. Besides, show me a car guy who is overly concerned about "economically sound"... especially at 17. :)
ai van daddy's money.
Enzo M So you're saying it was daddy's money then...my bad.
CorollaNut68 ... in the same way the money you make now is your company's or your client's I suppose.
+LaughterIsFunner When I was 17... last year mind you, I spent $4 a gallon on fuel driving an RX-7 that got anywhere from 6-18mpg... I had no spare income at the time but I don't regret it a bit.
I own a '81 Celica with an RB20DET engine, big brake kit upgrade, suspension and other stuff... AND NOW I WANT A MUSCLE CAR BECAUSE OF THIS!
Sir, you are doing your job EXCELENT!
That paint is FLAT. Goddamn. Never see black cars that look this good
Awesome car and an awesome owner... great work.
Another dream car
For da kids, mike, do it for da kids.
Still have it ?
Beautiful work
You guys gotta do a a Tuned & Big Muscle mash up, a modern big power muscle car. That'd be awesome!
Don´t call this "cool". This car has style and class. It´s not showing off flashy paint, stupidly loud exhaust or anything else. It´s not the kind of car you´ll turn around for but you´ll keep it in your eye for a long time when you recognize it.
In Germany you'd definetely turn heads with that!
Da vid cool chevelle!
I liked this one before it even started!!!
The thumbnail was good enough for a like.
this show has evolved into being as good and as original as... top gear (that's the uk version i'm talking about!) it is just.. different than all others it has something in it that you can't put your finger on but you need to get at least once a week!
great job Mike keep enjoying those cars and keep that energy flowing to the viewers!
I've been searching all over for a great shop to do my interior. I think I've found my place.
Wow, nice beast! Love it cause it's not too flashy, just mean looking. my kind of ride. :)
lol do a burn out for the kids! im not doin a burn out in a school zone for the kids!! lol favorite part of any or your shows. keep it up
Toller Wagen ! Best Regards from Germany
Great video.....Awesome Chevelle!
One of my top 5 favorite muscle car models (although I prefer the '67 more: I like the taillights better). Beautifully done. I love the blend of modern power with stock looks. I'm not personally a fan of the "lowered" look, and I still like the look of classic Cragars, but well done indeed. Maybe someday, if I save my pennies...
One mean looking '66. Love it!
NELSON RACING ENGINES LOOK IT UP HIS ENGINES ARE INCREDIBLE
I'm a Ford only guy but this car just looks right.....
man that's an awesome car sounds runs real good he did an awesome job
Great episode, thanks!
I had a 66 SS - 396 speed
Man I miss that car
I have two 66 Chevelle Super Sport and a 66 Chevelle Malibu , except mine has 327 pushing 600hp and 4 speed trans , both have posi rear end ,
The Malibu has a 71 small block
LT1 350 with 4 bolt main and 4 speed trans making 375hp
The Malibu is my daily driver
Lmao "For the kids mike!!"
No need to convince me Mike, only reason I subscribed to Drive was for Big Muscle Mondays :)
As stated in another post, it would be cool to try and locate Muscle Cars from perhaps other countries(such as Australia, Argentina, Mexico, Canada, etc.). Maybe not go to those countries, but I'm sure someone stateside has a cool imported Muscle Car from places outside the USA. Those sweet Australian Ford Falcon GTs are cool, I know Ford de Mexico produced a Shelby Mustang for 1969......hmmmmm :)
If you're gonna be daily driving these things, where the milage is something you consider, go for the LS lineup. But otherwise, big blocks are the only way to go. It just works and just fits the car's character, in my opinion.
Now that is one clean Chevelle. Mike points out that it is definitely not a small car, but that black and those lines make it look just right.
Enzo Morales is so tall that the Chevelle looks as low as the Cadzilla.
Great looking and performing car!
End music? I really enjoyed it.
I love big muscle!!
DO IT !
DO IT FOR THE KIDS !
LOL :D
Well done project. Love it when a theme is fully carried out. Gorgeous black paint 🎨
An Aston Martin is a luxury tourer with adequate power for long distance highway driving. This is neither. Nice Muscle Car though.
6:30 Mikes eyes gets so big lol
You have no idea. Wait a couple of episodes, we tested one car that was so small I had to drive it from the right seat - DOH!
I really love the show and I wish I could come to the US and see one of the cars you feature. Writing all the way from Bulgaria :)
HOLY SHIT IS THIS BACK? PLEASE TELL ME TTHIS SERIES IS BACK!!
why is this guy always blabbing about someone elses car? why dont they put the owner in the seat more.
this guy has driven more high quality modified cars then me or you could ever dream of, he has the exspensice to know what makes these cars special and if it was the owner driving them they problaby wouldn't have the same insight he would.
Sweet
yes these memories can stick with a kid forever, do da fuckin burn out!
Theres a 66 chevelle 4 blocks from were i live. I would buy it and build it but im a 17 year old:/ its been there since i was 7 !!!
You n me were obviously born in the wrong era cause im 16 and theres not too many teens these day that adore these old cars and actually want to build one. I have a 70 Chevelle that I drive to and from school every single day and trust me it turns heads so if you get that 66 chevelle its gonna turn some heads just cause its a cool car. Hope you can buy that car dude.
Have you tried asking the owner if he's selling the chevelle?
Nice car! I do wonder if Mike made it out OK or if he's still looking for the exit :D Guess we'll find out next week?
It makes me mad when people put those huge, flashy rims on these old muscles. Frankly, it ruins the image for me. I cannot stand them. I'd much rather leave the original--or some old-school rims--on these beauties.
The original cars don't handles for crap..have fun with your bias plus and cragers...old farts ..
I'm black and I don't like big rims on muscle cars, it robs the car of its true performance. It is a lot of turok coming off them back tires to have low pros on the car. Big rims look nice on old school cruiser like delta 88 s and even some of them have powerful motors
I think they look amazing
Do you mean big diameter(like 22s or something like that)?
Those WHEELS are not big nor are they flashy. They compliment the car very well. Usually a bigger wheel is needed to accommodate bigger brakes for better stopping. So am I to assume you have a problem with improved performance and braking?
dude thats awesome. I got a 1965 buick skylark
boss's daughter comes to mind
Fabulous. I only wish I lived in the States. Cheap petrol, long straight roads and muscle cars. Heaven. ( Though I do love driving my Miata round my local beautiful Lake District (UK) roads on a sunny day like today.)
Aston Martins are hand-built...not mass-produced like Chevy. Not in the same league.
Roger Baker the car was most likely torn down and rebuilt by hand, and it's to show how well it was put together and how great it drives
**Fulfilling burn out requests from kids, is your duty as a muscle car owner**
I didn't actually see the kids ask for a burnout, but the way we used to do it required no words. You simply point each of your index fingers inward, and twirled them in a circle, with each finger being 180° apart in the circle. That was internationally recognized as the "light 'em up" symbol. We would have been GREATLY disappointed if the person driving the muscle car didn't perform the requested burn out. We weren't exactly spoiled as kids, so an occasional burn out request granted, helped to compensate.
Probably way too late for you to see this but it looks like you filmed around my home! Is this Warner Springs and Palomar Mntn?
Thats a 66 Killerbu !
or maybe a
Awesomebu
Forget power brakes... sounds like it needs a power clutch more.
Redline Gauge Works did the gauges in that wicked ride!
Can you PM me your website? I might need you soon for a work on another Chevy baby!
Redline Gauge Works . com
redlinegw Thank you!
The '66 is definitely my favorite Chevelle. Any idea how well it sold compared to the other years in the 60s and 1970?
great job on this car.. comfortable.. reliable..all sounds good to me..looks like an everyday driver..this dude took the time out to make the car a driveable car..salute to you bro..
Thank you!
Enzo M second that. your car is beautiful.
He grew up with Tom Nelson! Daaaaam!!!!! You no that motor is sweet if Tom has anything to do with it.
1966 and 1970 chevelles are most sought after
Name your son Enzo to be damn sure he'll be into cars.
I had a 66 Chevelle. First with an LT1 and then a pumped-up 396, always with the four Speed and sway bars back and front. I preferred it to a 427 65 Cobra.
Because of drivability, engine management, and weight transfer.
There's more room in the Chevelle.
The amount of time you can spend crossed up, how far you can cross it up, and the ability to uncross it.
Engine management, just another day at the office.
Iron American Dream on UA-cam Share it. Take a ride across the promised land. Burn Rubber.
2002 Trans Am? Have I missed something here?
I've driven a 2011 Camaro SS and I can't stand it. Lovely car, but it doesn't seat 6 feet and 5 inches of man, and I can't rest my arm on the window frame. I have to lean sideways and then it feels funny to shift in that position, just not enough interior room.
Anyway, I like the Chevelle. The coke bottle style years are always classically muscular, but my favorite years are '66 and '67 for the Chevelle and GTO.
That's a car, like the Russian Air Force watch makers hehehee!
If the clutch is heavy, I assume it's a single disc clutch desiged for the 600hp. What about the corvette style duo disc clutch, aren't there after market versions that can handle +600hp? I hear those are smooth since the double friction surface doesn't require as much spring pressure.
DO A SKID FOR THE KIDS! LOL
I like your show real well the one of the things that up set me is you all have money and I do not. I came from a poor poor family I suffer from depression and it makes it so hard to watch your show. I own a 1984 Camaro Z28 in which I have owned for around 18 years I have done some work on it. It needs a little body work and paint it has no rust but a few dents. I do not have the kind of money it would take to have that done. I am 58 years old I no longer able to work because of health issues.I know no one cares but I just thought I would put that out there. I live on disablement And I am having a hard time just keeping my house.
Do it for the kids Musto!
Wow....having Tom Nelson as a friend....that`s like hanging out with Eddie Van Halen ! :-)
Great car and video. Thanks. But, you were not doing 60mph when you downshifted and hammered it. That is a different thing.
Wow, new cars 🚗 now gonna fail about this U-turn and acceleration combined together, surely, it a wicked 😳 bad ass 🚗
Big respect to Enzo for developing this car the way he did. Great taste and attention to detail, while keeping it focused on the relevant bits!
We know that its cool, thats why we are watching your show.. I also have a '66 and 70 chevelle. (and a '71 el camino)
Enzo well done it’s beautiful the Ring brothers build the quintessential Chevelle all others pale in comparison
I love this show. Nice format.
If there was one little change I would make, it would be to talk about the 1/4 mile times. I'm sure most of these guys have taken their cars to the track......(I know it's the 1st thing I would do).
It would be fun to know how the mods translate into speed.
...just saying.
Altimgamr has to bring hid idiocy to another video, why am I not surprised? Get a life!
I would love to hear the stories about him running from the cops. Especially if it were in a car chase in something sweet like this or in that 57 chevy
You were born after 1990 weren't you LOL!
It means no power assist - manual brakes are actuated solely by the amount of pressure applied to the brake pedal by your foot. Whereas power brakes have a brake booster that multiplies the energy transferred.
Na Na Na Naaaaaa Na....I had an 11 sec ride when I was 18/19 too. Plymouth Duster, 372 stroker, 4000 stall, 4:10 gears. Built it over a few years with the whopping total investment of around $15,000.
I agree with you that it's not ALL about 1/4 mile times but if someone puts a 600+hp motor in his car it's because he wants it to GO.
After all, the show is called Big Muscle.
Tom Nelson had a terribly slow car in his early days... Now he builds beasts that put to shame supercars like Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg or Venom GT. Much respect for this man!
DOOOO Matt Farah's vette, would be awesome on big muscle
Mike please keep talking, "Its nice to see good people have good things". That's an attitude that is sadly lacking here in the UK IMO. Keep up the good work
Fantastic episode Mike! Enzo.. well done, that car is certainly more than the sum of the parts.
"I'm not doing a burnout in a school zone for the Kids!!! lol..
That was compliments of Thaddeus Brown, our lead camera guy and director of photography. He is simply outstanding at finding the best and most beautiful locations.
OMG Tom Nelson's friend's car!!!
But is not turbo charged.
nice neo-retro Muscle ...very well-balanced and .. handsome car ..
cool ..
No. Not an Aston Martin. Not at all. A personal express, to get there snap quick, yes!
At 2:48; I hate when people say "I'll be honest with you..." Does that mean you aren't honest with us the rest of the time?
This thing seems kinda sluggish for 600hp Ik it's heavy but still
This thing seems kinda sluggish for 600hp Ik it's heavy but still
Nelson racing builds the best motors out there. Hard to believe that guy ever lost a race.
Well, there's a difference in the potential publicity from Big Muscle and the publicity the car has already received. The vast majority of the publicity the F-Bomb has received has focused almost completely around an unrealistic, fictional movie instead of around the mechanical workings of the car. I'm sure there are those who, like me, would like to hear all about the driving experience behind the wheel of the F-Bomb.
All the parts work perfectly together, except it has a extremely heavy clutch !!!
old school is always cool
Theres a number of XB coupes over in the US these days, due to the popularity of Mad Max /Road Warrior - tho I prefer them unmodified, or at least not with the nose, spoilers etc. Check my channel if you want to see a relatively stock bodied one - mine - started off a poxy 6 cyl car I've put a 351 Cleveland and 4 spd in.I'm in Australia though..
People like this guy have hard earned money to build their dream car and enjoy it and enjoy their life. It's not our fault that people are starving, it's the person/people who invented lower living/the ghetto. I'm glad you're not the government of any country, since you think it's ok that people with money aren't allowed to enjoy their lives and do what they want with cars.
