The craziest thing about this? His voice, to me, IS Alkaline Trio. Even though he only had a couple of songs on every album, his voice is so distinct and unique that it grabs me and takes me right back there, every time. Brilliant singer, brilliant bassist and guitarist, and brilliant songwriter.
As much as I love Alkaline Trio, the bulk of the talent is in you Dan!

Does anyone have any info on what fender acoustic this is? Is it a custom?

I've always and personally thought that Dan had a better voice than Matt in Alkaline Trio. And I always thought Dan wrote better songs too
Jimmy Foley They have completely different styles so I dont think its fair to compare them, but it works really well together
Dan is vanilla and Matt is chocolate both are great alone
And better together
Luke McCordick I wouldn't say "completely different", they have enough complimentary differences, but they're both the "Alkaline Trio sound" if you know what I mean.
