  • Using basic, default brushes in any program you can draw some really cool swords! This is another metal tutorial BUT it's also going to be in the future weapon tutorial playlist. I plan on making more sword and dagger tutorials for illustrators, both realistic and stylized.
Now that we've finished the basics of metal textures, visual behaviors, lighting, etc we'll be able to tackle more advanced shapes and opbjects.
If you're at all stuck or confused on what I did or how I got to a certain step, feel free to go back and watch my how to paint metal playlist. I make these tutorials so they can be practiced and used in ANY digital art app.
I recorded this sword tutorial live over on my livestream (twitch) so if you'd like to see a tutorial live, ask questions, or even make suggestions for future tutorials, feel free to come by the stream!

I did not expect swords to be covered by your tutorials, at least not any time soon.
It is very much appreciated though! ❤️

Is this a cheeky prelude to chains (or the other mentioned items) being covered in your tutorials? :3

Blew my mind when you straightened out the angled sword by lining it up next to the tool bar. Love your videos!

Um, actually... 🤓The purpose of the fuller is to strengthen the blade with that half-circle shape, and to make the weapon a bit lighter. I'm not sure why it started, but the rumors about it being to undo the vacuum effect of stabbing someone are completely erroneous and far too widespread; there is no evidence whatsoever that supports them having such a function.
Also, this tutorial, and the others you have done, are absolutely incredible and have really helped me grow as a digital artist! Some of my best pieces turned out so well only because of techniques I've learned in your videos. ^-^

    Awesome tutorial.
Sword nerd moment: The Fuller is to reduce overall weight and pinpoint center of balance (in conjunction with distil taper). The "blood groove" and the ability to stop suction in the body is a popular internet myth. Most swords were roughly 3lbs or less for one handed and
