Long time watch collector… Lots of watches $10-$10,000… You’re not missing anything… At least not in my opinion… Ridiculously over priced and AP is a one trick pony… they’ve been milking this watch for decades… Did they make some other nice stuff? Yes, but if you ever get that into luxury watches, there’s a whole lot of other nice stuff to pick from!

AP hype is somewhat recent. In terms of the hobby it is important because it saved the Swiss watch industry when quarts revolution almost took over. So AP Royal oak design is influential and iconic. Ap along with Vacheron Constantin, and Patek Philipe are known as the "Holy Trinity" of watchmaking. The epitome of watchmaking, history, materials, finishing, and movements.
But it wasn't until somewhere between 2018-2020 that it became "Hype" watches. Probably something to do with professional sports athletes, rappers, and celebrities wearing them more. Demand and thus secondary pries skyrocketed.
Imagine paying $50k+ for a dial that looks straight out of a printer 😂

Better balance wheel, smaller date window & more subdued date numerals. I really wish they would just put AP on their watches & stop spelling it out. It would look simpler, cleaner, and more subdued. Also, bring back the coat of arms balance wheels, the 4 stem balance wheels look silly by comparison.
