Heading for a swim to try this out? Let us know how it goes in the comments, we'd love to know! 🙌🏊♀
It's great and fast but I need to increase my stamina
@@AnaishaSharma000 3-4 swims a week 2 swims isn’t enough, especially if a sprint distance swim kicks your butt.
booooooooooooooo
Any info on the kick? Is there another video?
Wondering if there is a trick to stop water going up my nose?
I was never taught to swim, and can get by, but when I try the breathing and “ leaving one eye in the water” water tends to go up my nose. I see the person in the videos doesn’t use nose things ( not sure what they are called). I’m currently nursing a nasty ear infection from water going in my nose.
I will keep trying!
It would be nice to have a video about the real basics, like how to relax in water so to breath easy and avoid CO2 build up, how to use strength while performing flutter kicks so swimmer won’t go backwards or stagnant in water, how to get the accurate breathing window so swimmer is not pressing the water down with lead hand just to bring head up to water surface, instead of using shoulder rotation to help breath at ease. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fantastic video, but it’s more for people who can already swim a lap or two to fine tune their techniques instead of a real “how to” guide for non-swimmer, just my suggestion.
Thekidisalright agree, good video but no mention of breathing (how/when/techniques) or what to do with the legs. As a total beginner researching ‘how to swim’ I feel this does assume I have some prior experience & a basic foundation to build on.
Don't worry there is more to come and we will be breaking the stroke down further so keep an eye out for those!
Heather Fell Yay! Thank you Heather, looking forward to it! I am sure that would benefit many novice swimmers!
Try this to work on breathing, and sinky legs...
ua-cam.com/video/JEoX9Clf52I/v-deo.html
I will really want to see how 2 push the water underneath
The dark blue colour of the water in that pool is just so beautiful! Learning the freestyle stroke is a never ending battle for me!
Keep it up, It'll kick in the end.
Me too! I feel like I'm sinking, and I have no idea when to breathe 😂😂😂

I am 70. Hard to believe and I have recently started swimming again. Never really cared for it the past, but the gym was getting a little boring and I wanted to try something different. What I have discovered is there is a lot more to swimming than I thought --- much more than showing up at the gym and going through a my roiutine. Swimming is more mental and the questionis is applying what I just heard when I get to the pool which is where I am going next. I'm starting to see the importance of seeing myself perrorming each movemnet down to perfection.
60 and just learned the basics 2 years again, I’m back this summer to learn how to use my arms and legs..at the same time 😂😂
Hah - I'm 30 but never managed to swim due to phobia - however I've started taking swimming lessons now just becuase of this/I wouldn't want to regret it when I'm a bit older. So far so good! Love it. Second lessons and I can already flutter kick almost properly and I feel comfortable in water
Without a doubt the video that's helped me most as a beginner. Thank you tons!
Those are excellent video shots. The pacing, cuts and lighting really help with the narration. Thank you 🙏🏼
Fantastic job by the film crew on this one. And great explanation of course!
Awesome. Can say this has greatly helped my front crawl. Nice that everything is in one video from the same people. Rather than scattered technique tips from different companies. Thanks.
THANK YOU 🙏 from you’re videos I’ve taught myself to swim 🏊♂️ & lost 8 stone !
I now do skill drills and freestyle for 4 miles 5 times a week !
Cheers guys
Here - have some more cake … 🍰🍰🍰😀
Wow. Great for you! That's awesome. I'm relearning to swim after 13 years of smoking, I hyper ventilated after a couple laps, I have a long road ahead
Only 4 miles? Meh, after watching this video I now freestyle 16 miles 10 times a week.
@@Darkest_Soul_187well that's okay if they do less also,it doesn't really matter how much you do and thats also very nice I also now know how to do freestyle better!!!
@@Darkest_Soul_187Let bro be proud of his accomplishment
I just followed your "putting your arm around a barrel" advise for the first time today. Very helpful!
The tip on timing of breathing in the end of video was so useful, thanks!
Great cinematography!
Thanks for the awesome sharing. I normally only run but will apply this too. Thanks.
You have really good tips here Mark. Stuff I haven't heard before. Thank you!!!
I have very little swimming training back from my when I was 15. Now at 37, this whole week I've been going swimming at my local gym at 5 am. There are always 2 older Asian ladies, in their 70's, swimming with such perfect form! I must look so silly when I come in with my pink beach trunks, no goggles, no hair cap, and splashing all over the place. When they are swimming, it's completely quiet !!! I Just got my head cap, and goggles; With this video, I'll be showing them bitches wuzzup soon lol.
You should superman float on the water and use the strong hand to paddle. That'll give them a real heart attack
@@edwardzamora4781 good idea mate. I started to swim today. It was hard, but need to work on my form. I wish I carried on.
Bar was used to hide the huge croc
😂😂😂 BEAT THEM UP YOU 37 YEAR OLD LADY 😂😂😂
why don’t you ask them to teach you, I bet they’d love that 🤍
Thanks, the side angles were super helpful!
So nicely done, as always Mark...
I just want to say...these videos shots are EXCELLENT! Somebody is really good at their job lol
Excelent freestyle swimming tutorial.
Thank you very much!
Priceless!
SUPER USEFUL GTN! THANK YOU!
I've been swimming for 25 years now. Beautifully explained every detail. Thanks.
thank you for this,,, i will add this in my youtube list,,, 🏊
How do you breathe ?
By moving your head to the left of the right
About every third stroke you should rotate your body and breath
Inhale air and then breathe it out
THANK YOU from you’re videos I’ve taught myself to swim ️ & lost 8 stone !
I now do skill drills and freestyle for 4 miles 5 times a week !
Cheers guys
Tried the arms and breath timing today, both very helpful.
Absolutely awesome video!💪🏽 Tnx 💯%
Great and complete explanation
Nice tutorial especially on rotation and keeping my head more forward and down.
Thank you, my daughter was much better at this now it was the breath part she did get better, and the arm part too. 👍
Very good instructional!
thank you- well explained.
How would you structure a complete swim session, from beginning to end, so that it includes both drills and intervals?
I did my first sprint triathlon yesterday and it was a great experience. Thank you GTN for all the tips and videos! It was a big help getting me ready (especially on the swim).
Wow this is great to hear, well done!
Guys you’re the best!
Very comprehensive 👍
Thumbs up. Back to the pool to learn to swim all over again. Great tips.
I am about these have a swim test for rowing tomorrow for rowing it i haven't swam in 3 years. Thanks this video helped A LOT🆘🆘🆘🙏
Very helpful I won my race because of you ❤❤❤
Can I confirm that post the catch phase, your straight arm goes directly down prior to bending it and pushing back. I have also been doing an ‘S’ shape after the catch. Does this help?
Your guys video helps me so much ❤❤.I improved a lot.
Watching this to become a life guard at my local gym:)
I do swimming lessons this actually helps because I usually struggle with freestyle
Well done, beautiful explanation and editing. I will try the rotation bit at the end, never thought about it up until this moment!
Hello, & thank you. I learned a lot. Do you recommend using a kick board to help with speed for the front crawl?
Amazing channel and deserves to following
This help me alot thank u
Very useful and re-asuring since i didn't know if i was swimming alright
I joined swim team and I have no clue what I’m doing, but now I do. Thanks bro
Very helpful video.
Thank you! ✨🙏💖😁✨
Great & Excellent
Thanks for the help!
Nice
I’m a swimming teacher and love your videos 🎉
Great video. Really well done.
this is so well explained - thank you so much
You're very welcome!
This is fantastic!
Thanks
awe-sommmee i finally got the breathing part but as a result started snaking :( this helped me sooo much
this is a very good video because has great advices , thanks for did it
Beautiful
I used to be a fast swimmer when I was younger but it's been a LONG time since I did it. Just started going to the aquatic center near me, and on my first day back, they had a team training with their coach there. Oh man, did I feel self-conscious lol. I was really out of form, and after a few laps, decided to use my swimming snorkel until I can go without it. But I was happy overall and felt great after around 45 minutes of laps. Going to start swimming 3-4x a week, instead of the boring old cardio I've been doing for years.
Hi. Very informative but I am used to open water so struggle with breathing correctly during stroke. I often lift my head before turning it to the right. My current average is 2 minutes per 100m but want to go much faster. Stroke rate averaging 14 per 25m. Leg kick tends to slow me down. If I use ki kboard I can do 25m in 2 mins 15secs as I can hardly move jyst kicking. I still do not know how to sort this issue. I do however have a good catch and pull but seem not to be able to completely turn my shoulder over to get maximum stretch. Can you please advise how I can improve further? Thanks.
Excelent video 😉👍
Great breakdown. I seem to have a problem gulping some water as I breath while doing freestyle. Is there some tips on this?
i have been training to swim for 1 year but had to move on due to financial issues
i can mostly freestyle but titling my head to breath has been a challenge for me
so i might try to go back into swimming
Best video thank you
I know swimming but I feel I am very clumsy swimmer. I never learnt it from a pro. This video helped a lot.
Amazing info!!!!!
I am finally getting that feel of swimming with ease because my technique is getting better, but I still need to get better endurance
I get the whole concept cleared in the movements and everything but what about the breathing part how do you breathe lol. Cause if I wanna learn how to swim, I first wanna know how will I save myself if I drown, I should be able to breathe
Wdym you don’t know how to breathe
Ohh I understand what you mean! All you have to do is when you need to take a breath, just tilt your head out of the water while one arm is out and your still kicking.
Breathe out from your nose in the water and when you rotate your torso, your head should only come out of the water slightly to take a breath. Don't lift your head out, you can really strain your neck. I like to use the lane line or wall as a focal point.

Fantastic
Stay blessed sir ❤️❤️❤️
This was a cool video. Camera man was an ace.
Thank you. Now I remember it nice and clear. Freestyle is my specialty, but I kind of forgot a lot of it, because of COVID-19 shut down of many swimming pool.
how can you forget something as basic as swimming in two years?
@@miloraddjurdjic1695 Simple answer, forgetfulness.
@@Marielm5 I bet it is more
Hi. I am a newbie swimmer. When I turn my head and breathe on my left, my feet do not sink. But when I turn on my right, my head rises excessively, and feet sink. Pl advise some corrective drills to prevent excessive head elevation and leg sinking. One seems to be connected to the other. Thanks in advance
These videos look great and are super helpful! Should I press the thumb with other fingers, or let it loose?
Good will try hope to see more
Very informative now I see where I've been going wrong for 46 years lmao
One word. BREATHE!
I wish this video had been around in 2009. I was a ok swimmer with lots of raw strength. I had a good coach but I literally needed a visual and almost someone to direct my arms and this wasn’t the style of teaching that my teammates or coach had the temperament for. And UA-cam existed but now it’s been around long enough to find anything you want. Oh well I still love swimming and improvement is a lifetime habit.
Question: What about leg movements and how frequently we should pull out to breathe?
great video
Love the content, love the video!
Ima gonna go to the pool now. And would be nice to have a video breaking it diwn completly cuz ive never learned how to seim like that properly :'( but decided to trach myself!
Good Explanation 😉💅
this is a top top video
After first time watching turned of video
Hello, during the freestyle at which point does your leading arm start to pull into the water? What my coach taught me was that your back hand ahould be brought forward amd touch the leading hand before the leading hand starts to pull. But i observe that other people don't really do that. So do you start to pull with your leading hand when your back hand exits the water or what? What's the cue for your front arm to start pulling?
Started swimming again after many years absence to help reduce fat tummy but also really helping early arthritic hip, I'm just getting confidence enough to do this Front Crawl but I can't get the breathing in without catching and taking water causing me of course to choke very annoying so how do I time that? 🤔
Great vid just wished it included what to do with the legs. Thanks for the content!
Very nice
I’m disappointed there was no discussion of breathing technique, because that’s what I’ve always struggled with
the 'slicing' of the water is actually a very bad tip. Most people tend to cut in way too short en way too slowly because of that general advice. Most top swimmers actually have a pretty heavy entry with quite some splash. The splash itself is not such a big issue, as long as the fingers go in first, elbow high and aligned with the shoulder. So don't bother trying to slice the water, just go in smoothly and don't mind the splash that much
wastes energy though?
@@JontyOfficialYT In what way? Ofcourse 'no' ' splash is always better, but as a general beginners tip i would recommend not to focus at that for the reasons mentioned above. You might tweek it in the later stages
There are multiple ways to swim freestyle. Windmill and horse splash a lot, boat some, arrow not much. The video above is boat. Without discussing what style you are swimming, splash advice is confusing.
Atleast he is actually trying to help people learn you didn't have to say a bad tip just say it's wrong not everybody is a so called expert of swimming like you.
Thanks, this is helpful... although looks so easy in a flat pool, I'm trying to swim in the ocean...
This really helped my son a lot
That's what we like to hear 🙌
Im new to swimming.I can swim but i havent done it regularly like im doing now.
I swim 3 times a week but im finding my right shoulder hurts the next day.
Is there something i can do to counteract this other than warming up,cooling down and trying to do good form strokes.?
Cool
Nice
As a beginner I am yet to see a video which explains the snake shape or wiggle that the arm makes under the water before exiting. Am I missing something here..
