Started in 1987, South by Southwest (SXSW) is a set of film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences that take place early each year in mid-March in Austin, Texas. SXSW’s original goal was to create an event that would act as a tool for creative people and the companies they work with to develop their careers, to bring together people from a wide area to meet and share ideas. Sammy Hagar comes off as a really good guy. I really love the work he did with Van Halen. It's really a shame that the band cannot figure out a way to make things work.
Yeah it’s too bad they couldn’t all get together before Eddie got sick. Hopefully some bands that are broken up will learn from this and realize how precious life is and to let things go.
Sammy is one rare Rockstar not many people with his level of success in music have such a level head! Obviously we don’t know him personally but he comes across as very genuine. I use to be in bands and I have seen local musicians with massive egos bigger then famous musicians. I remember playing a show with this one band well it was basically a solo band it was basically a solo project this dude would record an album and hire musicians to go on the road and he had a big album a few years prior he was well known in the scene signed to a good size label he was always touring with other bigger bands everyone knew his band and whenever he was playing our city every band would want to open for him, well this other band that was opening was great I played with them before and I tried talking to the singer and he gave me a dirty look and walked away his band was just a local band just like us. Well I was talking to the solo act who we all were opening for I was introduced to him from one of the bigger local bands that toured all over they had a big name for themselves locally and the singer loved my band so he would get us on all the shows his band played when they were in town and always introduced me to the main acts so I was talking to the solo act guy and the dude with the big ego walks over acting like he was my friend asking me to introduce him to the solo guy, I laughed and said 5 minutes ago I tried talking to you and you blew me off but now that you see I know a famous singer your all nice to me? The solo guy told that dude here’s a bit of advice idk if ur band is even any good but even if ur the best band around if ur a jerk to people they will not help you and you never know when you might need help with something! I got signed because I let some guitar player use a guitar at a show because he broke a string his band was nobody at the time it was their first show ever so nobody wanted to let him use their guitar well 2 years his band is huge all over mtv and when his band came to my town he seen me he brought me backstage and after talking he couldn’t believe I didn’t have a record deal and the next week I was signing to a major label! So this guy here (me) that you were rude to what if I get him a record deal I bet you will wish you were nice to him right? I played with tons of musicians like urself and I promise you it’s much harder to be successful when nobody likes you.
I have a whole new respect for Sammy as a person, businessman, philanthropist, musician, all around great human being.
New meaning for philanthropist is a greedy rich person that doesn't PAY TAXES .

Sammy is as good of a singer as Eddie is a guitarist and that's why it worked. Dave is kinda looney, which worked when he was younger, but now seems not so great. I wish Eddie and Sammy would give it one more go at it. I'd love to see one more summer tour. They both need to get together and say "I'm sorry " and bury the pride. I love Sammy so much, but I think he should go first. "Blessed are the peace makers"
Marknelsonize right? Actually, I do prefer Sammy over David Lee Roth anyway. Don't get me wrong, there is a few songs with David Lee Roth with van Halen that I like. But, I love Sammy more. In fact, this interviewer seems a lot better than Dr. Drew. Because Dr. Drew would not let Sammy finish what he has to say. It would be nice if the third time would be a charm. Wait!. I think they already tried for the third time.
Marknelsonize I'm sorry, but did you not listen to the whole interview? Sammy's been trying to bury the hatchet for years now... and he wants nothing more than to be friends with Eddie and put on an epic summer tour for the fans. It's Eddie who needs to step up and meet Sammy half way.
Marknelsonize Eddie won't apologize to anyone , that's Eddie's ego . Dave's ego is even bigger than that . Bridges are burned , and they won't be built back .
@@kayandaeddings4803 Sammy actually attempted to reach out to Ed and start a dialogue again, but Eddie essentially deaded Sammy and simply will not talk to him. Things really soured after Sammy put out his book and there was some bad shit in it about Ed. oh well.
We all do stupid shit, and normal honest people eventually acknowledge that, like Sammy did in his book and Eddie still won't grow up and accept responsibility for his own bad actions. Eddie owes Sammy, Mikey and all VH fans an apology for the way he treated them and acted, they NEVER did anything to EVH, he attacked them, that's part of maturing and becoming sober, owning and asking for forgiveness, EVH can't or won't do that. Shame on Eddie, especially for his treatment of Mikey, that was just soooo wrong.
Sammy, DO NOT rejoin VanHalen for a reunion tour. They suck and you are a much better person to be involved with the Vanhalen brothers. What they did to Mike Anthoney was unforgivable...

Dave would never agree to playing opposite Sam at the same venue. Sam is still a balls out rock singer that still has his pipes. Sam would over shadow Daves portion because Dave cant create the same high energy show anymore.
Doran Amatto Sam does not still have his pipes. He has lost a lot, including his highs. He gets to a certain point and starts to croak.

I think that no one is saying what we should all just accept. No more. hey, let's get VH back together, it's time to call it a day . Both versions of Van Halen are carved in Music History Stone. Time to let it all go. Van Halen, both versions are really the story of my life...probably of all of our lives, those who loved Van Halen. I still listen to early Van Halen with DLR and it blows my mind. Dave is hard to watch anymore....Sammy is a class dude, and he's never going to hurt for money. VH is in our hearts forever.
I think most of us VH fans feel that way, but the rabid DLR lovers constantly attack Sammy for no reason. Sammy didn't steal DLR's job, DLR left VH bc he thought he was better than them and he soon found out that wasn't true, but it was too late, Sammy replaced him was kicking ass in VH.
I'd rather dig a ditch and go make 5 bucks. That says all you need to know.

Sam SEEMS to be a great guy. I stress "seems" to be because I don't know the guy at all outside of his public persona, but he just presents in a very down to earth, genuine way. I love Van Halen, all Van Halen, but I much prefer the Roth fronted version. I feel bad saying that because every time I see Sammy interviewed he seems like such a nice dude... but the original VH is impossible to top, imo. As good as "Van Hagar" was it wasn't as good as Van Halen, and I think most people feel that way. As a truly great rock genre vocalist, that has to be galling to Sammy, because Roth is/was not the singer that Hagar is/was... but the music Roth and EVH wrote is so good that besting it was an impossible task for the Hagar fronted VH. There is no shame in that, however, as ALL Van Halen music is outstanding, imo.
I agree with everything you said 100%. The original VH was a game changing band. The Hagar version was more pop-oriented and sugary... some great songs, but it felt like a different band. Also, as a guitar player of 34 years (VH 1984 tour my first concert!), I'm also a little biased because those early albums were so revolutionary for guitarists. However, if I had the opportunity to hang out with Sammy or Dave, I would definitely hang out with Sammy. I think Dave would be a bit annoying LOL.

That's not necessarily true. I would rather hear Dave do "Sinner's Swing," "Girl Gone Bad" or "Romeo Delight" badly than hear Sammy's sappy love songs like "Can't Stop Loving You," "Love Walks In" or "When It's Love" done perfectly. The issue with Sammy has never really been his vocal abilities. It's his 4th grade lyrical writing style. After 6 Roth albums we got "5150." It was ok I guess. "OU812" was the last Sammy album I bought. Let's face it - it sucks. ADKOT blows away all 4 albums with Sammy hands down. I think Dave would be up for playing opposite Sammy but I'm 99% sure the Van Halen brothers would not do it.
