  • The next chapter in HBO's "Game of Thrones" dynasty is set to drop this month. But before the second season of the prequel series "House of the Dragon" debuts, HBO hosted a premiere and carpet in New York Monday (June 2) as anticipation builds.
The second season picks up just days after the first season ended, even though the last show aired in October of 2022.
"The first season was very much about, who's getting married to who, who's having a son versus who's having a daughter, and who's going to be the successor to the throne?" said showrunner Ryan Condal at the event.
"Now… there are these two sides that are deeply entrenched. One side has attacked the other side," Condal added. "The stakes are just much higher."
The plot promises to center on the conflict between Team Green and Team Black as well as the dynamic between Prince Daemon Targaryan and Queen Rhaenyra.
"Both Daemon and Rhaenyra are in a state of profound grief… neither of them are brilliant communicators. And, I think this is revealed as a real flaw," said Emma D'Arcy, who plays Queen Rhaenyra.
"I think neither of them actually are willing… to be seen as weak in front of one another. That's sort of not where their erotic energy is."
The actors are also mindful of the massive audience awaiting the season.
"I think if you thought about the huge reception that you're coming into, I think I'd probably crumble into a million pieces," said Olivia Cooke, who plays Queen Alicent Hightower.
