Songs like Ohio is for Lovers and Saying Sorry became anthems for an entire generation, capturing the highs and lows of young adulthood in a way that few bands could.
But behind the success, Hawthorne Heights faced an unimaginable tragedy that nearly ended everything. Just as they were reaching the peak of their career, they suffered a heartbreaking loss that shook the band to its core. Hella great video man. My brother who passed away in 2008, he and I used to sing Nikki FM driving down the road. He would sing the clean vocals, and I would do the screams. Sadly I still can't listen to that record anymore. It's been 15 years, but as soon as it starts playing the tears to start flowing. Sometimes I'm forced myself to keep listening, and do the screams for him, but by the end of it I am drowning in my own tears. I love you Graham Scott Davis. Bad boys for life
Thanks dude! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Keep on screaming - what a great memory. Sorry for your loss 🖤
I’m literally wearing my 20 year anniversary of The Silence in Black and White sweater right now! Love HH
That tour was sick. Glad I made it out to see them play TSIBAW in its entirety.
I lived through this tragedy as a high school emo 😢To this day Hawthorne Heights is still one of my favourite bands.
I saw them play with Emery and Alexisonfire in 2004, my brother and I were front row and just blown away by Hawthorne Heights. I have a picture of my brother with JT’s SG.
I remember when Casey passed away.. He was the main inspiration behind why i started screaming
Casey's death broke my heart as a kid, hope he's resting in peace
Nah F him and F all my friends who did the same thing
Still my favorite band!! Ive seen them 5 times and im going again in April :D
Nice, I've never seen them live but I would love to.
@ go see them, they are always on tour! Now they even organize a festival called Is for Lovers.
I got to see them at Bumbershoot (spelling) in Seattle when they opened for AFI. My best buddy won tickets to the concert and the “End Sessions” which was a secret acoustic concert before the main show. Yellowcard and HH. Yellowcard was awesome even though the lead singer was a douche. HH came out with full electric kit and absolutely blew the lid off of the place. They were insane live and ended their set with my favorite song “the transition”. Casey passed away not too long after that and it saddened me greatly. He was such a great screamer and made it look effortless and powerful.
Was never even really a fan of them, like can’t even remember listening to them much, but all these years later I still remember how to play a bunch of Hawthorne riffs from my early days of playing guitar.
Why'd you learn a bunch of their riffs if you don't like them lol
@ I couldn’t even name the songs, but I for whatever reason know they were Hawthorne ones. At 2 to 3 years of playing guitar I was trying to learn everything and they must have made the list at some point. That era of emo music had riffs as simple to learn as grunge, so i was just learning to play everything
Great video !
Thank you. Glad you enjoy the vid! 🖤
Love HH. Ohio is for lovers came out my senior year. southern ohio
Thanks for doing this video. I really love the first two HH albums ("The Silence" and "If Only"), which I managed to find, perhaps, the last hard copies in existence about a year or so ago, after having had Niki FM and Wake Up Call stuck in my head for so many years from that Smashing Gamecube video. Really saddened by Casey's passing; also saddened to see that Eron and Micah would eventually leave too. You can tell by the way JT talks about the band, the songs, and the music in general that he is a really authentic guy, and that his whole heart and soul is in it; even now, he still talks to the crowd with the same emotion and nostalgia that we all felt about the music and life back in the 2000s.
Totally agree, the interviews I watched during this process I got the same vibe from JT.
Loved your contents man! As a guy who grew up listening to emo/punk music. This is so nostalgic!
Thank you! I am glad you are enjoying it! Much more to come! 🖤
A shot near the start is a promo shot where I saw them at in 05. I can see the banner of my local radio station rolled up behind him.
Casey will forever be in our hearts ❤
New to your channel, Started with your fenix TX video and went to the movielife video. It made me think Id love to see a video on Polar Bear Club. Keep up the good work
Welcome aboard!
Please do a video on the rise and fall and ultimate rise again of SAOSIN! PLEASE!
Awesome
I worked with Casey at a music store just before Hawthorne Heights got big. It was incredibly tragic. But I’m pretty sure they got their name because it was the name of a neighborhood nearby. I could be mistaken, but I don’t think I am.
Unfortunately its been down hill for years and years. I do miss the old HH.
Hawthorne Heights was like one of my favorite bands when they came out. I seen them twice at Warped Tour. The second time they did a little meet and greet before their set. I was wearing a shirt that had “Thing 1” on the front and “thing 2” on the back. Casey was the first one I approached. He asked me where Thing 2 was and I turned around. I got front row and he had jumped off the stage running back and forth. Got to slap hands with him. This was august of 2007. When he died in November I was devastated
What an awesome memory though!
@ Definitely cherish this memory for as long as my brain allows me. Music got me through some rough times. So meeting them was a high point. I have this binder of all the autographs I ever got. Friend of mine was going through it and came across theirs. It’s on a random piece of paper with no indication of who it was. It’s my HH autograph.
I’m interested in senses fail and the album “If there is light it will find you.” Would be cool
Well you are in for a nice surprise very very soon!
Casey was a good screamer. Dont mix medications, his one mistake.
